5 out of 5 eggsworks great

Pros: Works great. Spins down when not in use. Had running 24/7 for like a year now, no faults.

Cons: Because it spins down to save power in Win7 when you double click a disk that has not been used recently it takes a 2-4 seconds to spin up and show the drive contents. I guess that is better than wasting energy all the time tho.

1 out of 5 eggsOnly hard drive to die on me

Pros: The drive worked for almost a year.

Cons: The drive died after 11 months and I lost plenty of data.

Other Thoughts: I know hard drives fail, but this is the first drive of mine to fail and I've used plenty of other hard drives (Maxtor and Western Digital) far more and for far longer. Data loss is very inconvenient.

4 out of 5 eggscool runnings

Pros: have 3 of these, nice and spacious, cool running drives, and have yet to have any SERIOUS issues.

Cons: had them in raid5 for about 2 months, then started to get one of them dropping out, failing SMART. backed up, dropped them into ahci mode, problems solved

Other Thoughts: I know these aren't raid certified drives, but when are the disc manufactures going to start putting out green versions that will be capable of doing raid without all the hubbub, enquiring minds want to know.

5 out of 5 eggs11 Greens Online 24/7 Still Going Strong

Pros: I currently own 11 of these drives and I haven't had a single problem with any of them. They've all run smoothly and data transfers are quick, easily saturating the bonded dual gigabit connection on my main file server (2Gb/s). Of course this is from 6 of them built into a RAID. (Attached to the Adaptec 31205 HBA). They run quiet, although they're in a server, what interested me was the power consumption. All of my servers (3) only draw around 500 watts, completely loaded down with drives that are always spinning... Personally I love them.

Cons: I cut my hand on the packaging material, but you don't get that with a bare drive...

Other Thoughts: The configuration has 6 of them residing in one server built into a RAID5 array and another 4 are in another RAID5 array in different server. I use them to house everything from my personal files, to movies that I stream to up to 8 devices around the house. The last drive serves CD Images and houses non-crucial data in a VMware ESXI white box that runs alongside the other two servers. All of the drives are attached to some form of Adaptec's HBAs.

5 out of 5 eggsBe Green, Be Happy

Pros: Great price, quiet, impressive speed, energy efficient. This drive is perfect for storage only. I would not use it as an OS drive.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: Since this is an energy efficient drive, be aware that the drive automatically spins down when not in use. You have to wait a few seconds for the spin up to complete. I don't think there is a way to disable this.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat external drive. LOTS OF SPACE!

Pros: I got this drive partitioned off into 2 parts. 1 is HFS+J and the other is NTFS. So far so good. Runs fast, quiet, and LOADS OF SPACE!

Cons: None

1 out of 5 eggsNOT TOO GOOD!

Pros: Quiet
RMAs are easy to complete online

Cons: Epic Fail

Other Thoughts: First one was DOA
Replacement lasted 32 days
Next replacement lasted 93 days - just finished RMA
They are getting better. By the fifth one I should be able to get a year's runtime out of it.
Don't walk away - run! For the love of your data - run!
