1 out of 5 eggsTwo drives both had bad sectors out of the box

Pros: none

Cons: Ordered this drive, installed windows and it was sluggish. Tested the drive, bad sectors. had this drive replace. second drive came in and I tested it first thing. More bad sectors!! Waste of time. Also the warranty is not through WD but through the seller. Drives are old and already out of manufacturers warranty!

5 out of 5 eggsStill works!

Pros: I bought this drive in 2009 and it's still kicking. Still fast enough for most of what I need it for. Very quiet.

Cons: SATA 3.0Gb/s is a little slow these days. Only 8MB cache. But for a drive with longevity as such a cheap price, these are relatively minor concerns.

Other Thoughts: I've been running my OS off this and will continue to do so until I get around to picking up an SSD. I love this drive!

3 out of 5 eggsWhat you get

Pros: This is a new, unformatted bare drive. It has a 1 yr warranty offered by seller. Any problems, you are not dealing w/WD you are dealing w/the seller.

Cons: I could contemplate a 1 yr warranty thru the seller if I could purchase additional coverage and I thought it was trustworthy. As it stands there's so many game players out there I'd rather deal w/the egg or WD. I don't know what the track record has been for recent buyers of this drive but my data's not taking a chance.

1 out of 5 eggsBad drive out of the box

Pros: none

Cons: I ordered this drive brand new. I had to wait 2 months to coordinate with my client to install it in his system to rebuild an array. When I took it out of the box I noticed it was packaged very poorly, there was no packing material so the box inside the shipping box was allowed to bounce around the inside. Major mistake here considering the number one reason for hard drive failure is shock. The drive was also 5 years old, manufactured in June 2010. I have never received a drive older than a year when ordering new hard drives. This is why I will refrain from ordering from marketplace sellers in the future.

3 out of 5 eggsSome surface defects after 3 years

Pros: Now use it to take redundant backups off site.

Cons: Performed reliably for 2-3 years then developed some surface defects that were successfully remapped. Unit was moved a few times around this time. No new defects in the 18 months since remapping.

Other Thoughts: 350G is not much capacity for the way we use storage today.
