Quiet - The technology that Tom's Hardware Guide called "very fast and nearly silent" is used throughout this family of drives. Our WhisperDrive technology minimizes noise to levels near the threshold of human hearing. To cut seek noise, SoftSeek technology streamlines read/write seeking algorithms, resulting in more efficient operation.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat

Pros: Works great, had no problems. Bought two, both worked. Great price, great drives. Both read 149 GB on windows, as expected for a drive of this size.

Cons: None.

3 out of 5 eggsMarked Wrong?

Pros: Cheap

Cons: My brother installed this hard drive and does this for a living but did not notice the stcker said 160GB but only had 120GB. Lost 40 GB and did not find out until way too late.

Other Thoughts: Need to be able to contact to Newegg with these problems by email, chat or phone that is not difficult. Emails did not get answered.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat SATA Drive!

Pros: + Cheap
+ Fast
+ SATA
+ Great $/GB
+ Western Digital
+ 7200RPM

Cons: A tad noisy, but that doesn't bother me at all.

Other Thoughts: Using this in a USB enclosure for my backups. Quite speedy. Seems weird not having to fuss with jumper settings and slave/master drive priorities like with IDE drives.

I will use it as my Files drive in my new build which will have SATA. :)

Then I'll put my old 320GB IDE into the enclosure for backups. ^_^

5 out of 5 eggsOoops

Pros: -Great price

Cons: Doa?

See "other thoughts".

Other Thoughts: I got this for replacing a dead OEM Hard drive one an XPS 400 Desktop, and after getting the raplacemet for the RAM I realized that the problem wasn't the drive itself but rather the settings in the BIOS!!! Went under SATA> Changed the controller settngs from AHCI to PATA/IDE and what do you know problem solved, I had overlooked that little problem with AHCI and Windows XP unless you are using the drivers @ the installation time then you're set, otherwise set it to operate in IDE mode.

2 out of 5 eggsHit or Miss

Pros: Cheap and easily replaceable.

Cons: The company I do desktop support for gets Lenovo PCs that use these drives. Out of every 20 PCs I can safely say half of these drives fail within 6 months time. We are constantly replacing these under warranty.

The cause of failure is unknown, but out of the blue the computer will stop booting. Further investigation reveals the drive is no longer detected by the machine, yet still has power. This points to a SATA failure in the drive itself.

Other Thoughts: As long as you're lucky and get a good drive these really aren't bad. If you plan to buy them, buy in bulk and be prepared to RMA half of them before one year.

4 out of 5 eggsso far so good...

Pros: not very expensive,it seems to do the job.

Cons: didn't come in a box, didn't come with anything, just a hard drive wrapped in bubblewrap. That didn't bother me, but anyone considering this drive should keep that in mind.

Other Thoughts: I had problems getting windows to recognize the drive, luckily i had an old western digital install disc that i used to get everything up. that's never happened to me before with a hard drive. I haven't done may SATA'sthough. I had to get a SATA cable, i didn't have one.

5 out of 5 eggsRuning two in RAID 0

Pros: I'm updating my prior review. I bought 2 in 2007. I currently have them running in RAID 0. Prior to this, copying about 10 GB of data from my 640 GB drive to my C:, which is one of these babies, took about 4 minutes.

Now copying from my 640 GB drive to my C: drive (in RAID 0 using these two drives) takes 1 minute and 45 seconds. Boot into Windows 7 used to take about 35 seconds with only 1 drive as the primary boot drive. Now it's taking about 25 seconds with RAID 0.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: When SSD prices come down to earth I'll buy some.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Drive for "Normal" Use

Pros: Does what it's supposed to do, without hassle and at a good price! I've had mine for over two years running Vista Ultimate and, up until this past week, has worked beautifully! The workload on my computer had drastically increased which could be why the issue has just surfaced.

Cons: Not really a logical choice for overheavy users and gamers.

Other Thoughts: I'm not sure at this point if it's the HD or maybe the cables...should know for sure this evening! Good thing I know people who are much smarter about these things that I can turn to!
