Features

Removable Heat Spreader Fin

The G.SKILL TridentX series features a removable heat spreader fin to improve your cooling options. With the heat spreader fin, the increased surface area keeps the memory cooler. Alternatively, with a system that already has a sufficient cooling solution, the fins can be removed to accommodate massive CPU coolers or other customized cooling solutions.

If you follow my posts on the forums, you'll find that I consider myself one of Corsair's biggest fans, but those feelings were thrown completely out of whack when I received this kit from G.Skill. The G.Skill F3-2666C11Q-16GTXD kit managed to completely amaze me with its quality and clocking ability, and I fell in love after checking its price. You cannot find a 4 x 4GB 2666MHz kit for less right now unless it's been put on sale. This kit manages to overcome any performance deficiencies with flexibility and great overhead. At stock, I managed to beat out my trusty Corsair Dominator Platinum kit with a little bit of tweaking. Overclocked, the G.Skill F3-2666C11Q-16GTXD kit managed to go just as high without a boost in voltage. That is just outright fantastic.

G. Skill's 2400 MHz Trident X kit put on an impressive display of performance, easily overcoming the competition in all but four of the benchmarks used. Unfortunately, the memory was bottlenecked by the processor -- limiting the overclock to a 104 bclk and leaving us with a final overclock of 2218MHz and timings of 10-12-12-31 2T. Paired with a 3rd generation Intel processor, G. Skill's 2400 MHz Trident X kit would have benefited greatly from the increased bandwidth and has the potential to hit 2500MHz with some fine tuning.

Gold Award at OverClockersClub

Gold Award at OverClockersClub

G.Skill's Trident X line-up comes with kits that range from the 2400MHz kit we are looking at to a 2800MHz kit for massive memory speeds and the associated bandwidth that is a hallmark of higher speed bins. It seems that G.Skill is most definitely targeting the budget overclocker with this set of Trident X modules. A $99 price tag for 2400MHz-rated modules is a welcome sight after seeing huge price tags just a few months back for cas8 and 9 modules binned above 2133MHz. The Trident X are modules that perform well and deliver some overhead for a little bit more tweaking and come with G.Skill's lifetime warranty. Excellent looks aside, the Trident X would make a good addition to any system and have the flexibility to be cooled in multiple ways.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat!

Pros: Good product.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I just put this straight from the case to my MB. I didn't mess with the cooing fins or anything. I bought 2 and they work great with no problems.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent memory

Pros: Meets advertised specs exactly without issue. AMD memory profile found easily in the UEFI Bios of Asus Sabertooth 990FX R2, memory currently clocked at 1872Mhz.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: Heat Spreaders are fairly tall. Mine just cleared the CPU cooler, but literally by a hair-width. Others could have probelms with large air-coolers, so make sure you check your clearance.

5 out of 5 eggsThese are insane!

Pros: These sticks are absolutely amazing. I have had these running for several months now without a single hiccup. It took me a bit of time tweaking (as with any ram o/c), but I have them running at 1926 @ 8-9-9-24 (the ASUS Sabertooth 990FX 2.0 board is really nice to O/C with). I have 32gb of this ram in my rig, and I use 20gb of it as a ramdisk to run games like EvE Online and Diablo III. It runs them so blazing fast it blows my mind and they NEVER have any problem whatsoever.

Cons: My Sabertooth board can't fit another 30 sticks or so.......

Other Thoughts: If you want fast ram that you can tweak and run stable, buy this.

5 out of 5 eggsUpdate to Nothing Less of Amazing

Pros: This Ram is amazing! They overclock like crazy! After actually having the time to play with these, I have all four modules running 2133mhz with 8-10-10-24 timings @1.65v. I have clocked them stable to 2400mhz cl 9-11-10-27 @1.65v but only using 2 modules. I purchased two sets weeks apart from each other to put in my current system.
My Build: Formula V Mobo, Fx 8350 4.9ghz, 2 AMD Radeon HD 6970s, Corsair Force GT3 SSD.

Cons: I have none.

Other Thoughts: When I first purchased these, I set individual profiles to meet my needs at the time. I finally got the chance to sit down and play with these modules to get a comfortable 24/7 clock.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks as it should

Pros: ordered on a Sunday got on Tuesday fast is shipping always a plus. Popped it in came up the correct speed on tweaking needed except for the timings i had to tweak the timings. Other then that works great!

Cons: A little pricey but that is what you get when you pay for the best.

Other Thoughts: Be careful the fins on these are a little tall make sure you have room in your setup.

5 out of 5 eggsBeautiful

Pros: I love the aluminum fins. By the way my nactua nh-u12p se2 covers up only one dim slot on my z87 sabertooth, so if you are only gonna use these two then they fit with no problem in the second and last dim slots. *one thing to remember is always but the the fans on your nh-u12 se2 heat sink before putting these in and then they fit in nicely.

Cons: They are automatically set to 1333Mhz on my z87 sabertooth

Other Thoughts: Oh yeah on the z87 sabertooth i filled the other two dim slots with the dust covers so no worry if you got the nactua nh-u12p se2 only for dual sticks. Four wont fit unless there low profile. Though i havnt checked to see if you do take the top fin off, if you could fit 4 sticks in there i have no idea on that. but thats why i bought 16gb instead of 8 so i dont have to worry about my cpu heatsink in the future because i love the tall heat spreaders so much on this ram.

5 out of 5 eggsNothing less of Amazing

Pros: The ram looks great and matches the color scheme in my computer. 1866mhz CL 8-9-9-24 I'm able to play my simulators, games, and render 3d models with ease. I purchased my first set from another site. Loved them so much, came to newegg for a second set. I purchased these to replace a set of GSkill Snipers (which were amazing) at 1866mhz. The snipers fell short when it came to rendering 3d models, but were amazing at everything else.

Cons: I've only owned these for a short period and have no cons.

Other Thoughts: I have 2 sets of 2x8gb. Currently, these are clocked at 1866mhz at CL 7-9-8-22-30-1t @1.67V for my "work profile". My second profile ("gaming profile") are set a (4x8gb) 2133mhz 9-11-10-27-37-1t @1.65v. My third profile ("everyday profile") are at stock stock setting. Amazing performance and plenty of head room for over clocking. All profiles are set in my BIOS. I could not be any happier with my purchases.
Build:
Asus Formula V mobo
2 sets F3-1866C8D-16GTX
AMD FX 8350 OCd @ 4.9
Asus EAH 6970 (2 in crossfire)

5 out of 5 eggsSuper low cas

Pros: Performance speed
They run pretty cool
they even get a boost over the sniper series 1866 by quite a bit

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: The fins are big so be aware, they still run solid without them. Worked out of the box with XMP and ran at reference speeds. Now I kind of want to try out the 2400mhz

3 out of 5 eggsBad luck?

Pros: The 1 good piece, is nice and fast. 1866 w/ CL of 8, it should be.

Cons: Of the 2 only 1 worked. Stick casing also fell apart with only a little handling.

Other Thoughts: Only 1/2 sticks actually work.. Found this after testing with my other sticks and each of the tridents solo (just to make sure wasn't mb). Took all anti-esd precautions and was extra careful not to apply too much pressure hither and dither, etc. The casing on 1 also just simply fell apart after an attempt to remove it from the mb. Hardly any lateral force was applied to it. Paid a lot for this, I expected better. RMA'ing this.

5 out of 5 eggsultra low latency

Pros: got for it's better latency and over clocking abilities over the sniper series, works great with z87

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: the heat sinks are a little on the large side and will impede larger air coolers, but not a problem if cpu is water cooled. these compared to the sniper series of the same speed are not a huge increase but are worth it for overclocking, some games see some increase in rendering times, ram intensive programs run a little smoother, over clocking is easier and more stable, better cooled.
