Features

Removable Heat Spreader Fin

The G.SKILL TridentX series features a removable heat spreader fin to improve your cooling options. With the heat spreader fin, the increased surface area keeps the memory cooler. Alternatively, with a system that already has a sufficient cooling solution, the fins can be removed to accommodate massive CPU coolers or other customized cooling solutions.

If you follow my posts on the forums, you'll find that I consider myself one of Corsair's biggest fans, but those feelings were thrown completely out of whack when I received this kit from G.Skill. The G.Skill F3-2666C11Q-16GTXD kit managed to completely amaze me with its quality and clocking ability, and I fell in love after checking its price. You cannot find a 4 x 4GB 2666MHz kit for less right now unless it's been put on sale. This kit manages to overcome any performance deficiencies with flexibility and great overhead. At stock, I managed to beat out my trusty Corsair Dominator Platinum kit with a little bit of tweaking. Overclocked, the G.Skill F3-2666C11Q-16GTXD kit managed to go just as high without a boost in voltage. That is just outright fantastic.

G. Skill's 2400 MHz Trident X kit put on an impressive display of performance, easily overcoming the competition in all but four of the benchmarks used. Unfortunately, the memory was bottlenecked by the processor -- limiting the overclock to a 104 bclk and leaving us with a final overclock of 2218MHz and timings of 10-12-12-31 2T. Paired with a 3rd generation Intel processor, G. Skill's 2400 MHz Trident X kit would have benefited greatly from the increased bandwidth and has the potential to hit 2500MHz with some fine tuning.

Gold Award at OverClockersClub

G.Skill's Trident X line-up comes with kits that range from the 2400MHz kit we are looking at to a 2800MHz kit for massive memory speeds and the associated bandwidth that is a hallmark of higher speed bins. It seems that G.Skill is most definitely targeting the budget overclocker with this set of Trident X modules. A $99 price tag for 2400MHz-rated modules is a welcome sight after seeing huge price tags just a few months back for cas8 and 9 modules binned above 2133MHz. The Trident X are modules that perform well and deliver some overhead for a little bit more tweaking and come with G.Skill's lifetime warranty. Excellent looks aside, the Trident X would make a good addition to any system and have the flexibility to be cooled in multiple ways.

5 out of 5 eggsGood performance, very satisfied

Pros: Good performance and capacity.

Cons: Some may like the style, personally I don't, but this does not really matters for me.

It is a good thing that you can take the heatsink off with just a small star screwdiver. I didn't.

5 out of 5 eggsthey work

Pros: they work

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: minor overclocking, works as intended.
The heat sinks stick out alot which prevents insertion into the slow near the cpu, wouldn't be a problem if I had a smaller cpu cooler.

5 out of 5 eggsVery nice set of RAM

Pros: Had no stability issues with the ram and owned for nearly a year.

Were recognized by the ASUS MAXIMUS VI Hero instantly and clocked at 1866Mhz no problem.

16GB is enough for almost any consumer, I don't know why people buy more for gaming.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Glad the first RAM I purchased was from G.SKILL, their line up of RAM is just outstanding and they offer quality hardware.

5 out of 5 eggsVery Satisfied

Pros: I went for a replicated build but with a different MOBO and it was as expected and I'm very happy with the performance. I shop with Asus, Gigabyte only using G.skill and Crucial Memory. Only because of the high percentage of reviews and I never run into any issues with reliability or customer service.
I've been running a VM with Linux based OS and WIN Server 2012, Access Database SW and amongst 3 other Applications. Primary WIN PRO7 64bit. The processes with threading never run above 50%

Cons: None.

5 out of 5 eggsPerfect RAM for the price.

Pros: Runs flawlessly at 1866 on my ASUS SABERTOOTH 990FX R2.0 w/ AMD FX-8350 Black Edition.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: The timings are still set to auto, but some on the net have been able to manually tweak them a bit lower, while maintaining stability on Windows 7 & 8.1. I, personally, do not intend to manually modify the timings.

No AMD chip out there can run 4x DIMMs at anything more than 1600, unfortunately. This includes the FX-series chips. Don't rush to buy two sets of this RAM; you will be disappointed.

As long as you do your research on RAM/MOBO/CPU combo, you should be able to get great stability and performance out of the combo you go with. If you're looking at an AMD FX-8350 on the ASUS SABERTOOTH 990FX R2.0, then this is the RAM for you!

5 out of 5 eggsgood stuff

Pros: great ram at a great price.. I've used gskill in 2 builds and gave never had a problem. some motherboards require u to manually input the 1866 speed bit that's not the rams fault.

fins are removable for compatibility with big cpu coolers like the noctua d14

Cons: none.

4 out of 5 eggsFast

Pros: * Speedy; noticed an instant difference coming from 12GB of 4-year-old DDR3 RAM.
* Interesting removable heatsink design

Cons: * Expensive

Other Thoughts: 5/5 when it comes to performance, but at $180 for 16GB, there are certainly more economical choices if you're willing to settle for some slightly slower timings and clock speeds

Manufacturer Response:

.
Dear Customer

Thank you for your G.Skill purchase and review. Glad to hear the memory is working fast in your system, and you notice a significant difference in performance. This is a top memory kit on the market today, so it is definitely no slouch. The price is higher than standard RAM, but it is well worth it given the much improved processing power. Compare it to RAM of similar specification and you will find that it is a steal of a price. For any further questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us directly.

Thank you

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Fast. Installed very easy. Put them in a Asrock 990FX Killer board. Running sweet.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: Regret not buying another 16 gigs. Actually I might buy another 16 gigs right now.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat!

Pros: Good product.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I just put this straight from the case to my MB. I didn't mess with the cooing fins or anything. I bought 2 and they work great with no problems.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent memory

Pros: Meets advertised specs exactly without issue. AMD memory profile found easily in the UEFI Bios of Asus Sabertooth 990FX R2, memory currently clocked at 1872Mhz.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: Heat Spreaders are fairly tall. Mine just cleared the CPU cooler, but literally by a hair-width. Others could have probelms with large air-coolers, so make sure you check your clearance.
