1 out of 5 eggsDefective

Pros: Fancy Heat Sinks

Cons: One module defective.

Other Thoughts: This is the second pair of problem DRAMs from GSkill.in a row, both with the same specs.

Manufacturer Response:

.
Dear Customer

Glad to hear you like the color of the RAM. This is not a plug and play memory kit, so please make sure to configure settings in BIOS/EFI. Without the proper configuration, the system may be unstable. Enable XMP Profile and that should allow the RAM to run at full speed. This is a great memory kit that should work very well in your H77 motherboard. The low voltage and timings will make it a quick and efficient system. If a module is defective, complete the RMA procedure online and we can send you a new replacement right away. For any further questions or concerns, feel free to let us know.

Thank you

3 out of 5 eggsStellar but increasingly obsolete; buy updated versions

Pros: This RAM was unbelievable when bought my first kit of it... in early 2010. Back then higher clocked DDR-3 was rare and expensive, and this allowed for that kind of performance due to its fantastic overclocking.

Even at 1.5v, my four sticks of this RAM -I bought another kit later for an updated rig- will go to 1866 or 2000 with loosened timings (1866@10-10-10-30 for me, 2000@11-11-11-30), and can tight up timings substantially with more voltage. I've hit 2000@10-11-10-30 at 1.6, and didn't feel like playing around further, but I'm sure it would push much, much further

As always, G.Skill RAM is cheap and ubiquitously free of whatever small compatibility issues I continue to have with modern RAM elsewhere. This stuff has seen service in three boards without a hitch.

Cons: These days, 1866 at 8-9-9 timings or 2133 at 10/11, including updated G.Skill Ripjaw (X), is the same price as this stuff. That stuff gives more performance at the same voltage.

Other Thoughts: To be clear, I DO NOT recommend buying this.

For 1600mhz RAM from 2010 it's incredible. Today, G.Skill has updated their offerings to better RAM at the same or better prices, so this has as about as much use as a PATA optical drive.

As always performance and compatibility vary from board to board slightly. My 790FX Asus ROG board would run this stuff across its full range of speeds and timings without a hitch. My Asrock 1155/Z77 gets flaky on POST past 1866 (it'll run at 2133, but fail to boot until you failsafe it and re-set the RAM to the higher speed, then proceed to run fine). I do not blame the RAM itself for these issues.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer

Glad to hear G.Skill memory kits have been working well in your builds. This is a entry level gaming memory kit that can still run exceptionally well for any system. 4GB capacity is low for memory intensive tasks, but DDR3-1600 CL9 is still much better than the DDR3 standard of DDR3-1333 CL9 and DDR3-1600 CL11. Keep in mind not all CPUs support DDR3-1600+, so this memory kit can still be a good fit for many computers. DDR and DDR2 is quickly becoming obsolete, but DDR3 will be around for some time. This RAM is good for gaming, but of course for overclockers and extreme users, there is much faster RAM now upwards of DDR3-2133. For any further questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us directly.

4 out of 5 eggsDual channel FTW :D

Pros: good ram faster then my old ddr2 ram :D grate on gameing
4gb is euff to get u into the world of gameing altho 8gb is the sweet spot but u could allways upgrade later :) i choose dual channel over just one stick of 4gb cause your comuputer have more breath room when useing ram from two sticks to open multipul programs insted of just one it feels more smother :D so 4gb x2 is a smart move i love it <3 will defantly recomend this brand for u its preety fast i usely have no slow down in opening manny programs at all

Cons: non so far been useing for about a month :)

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer

Thank you for your G.Skill purchase and review. Glad to hear you really like the RAM and it is working well for your gaming needs. 4GB is definitely enough to get you in the world of gaming, but 8GB is generally best to keep you in the world. Most computers are dual channel, so dual channel RAM is definitely a requirement for maximum performance. Single channel mode will not allow memory intensive games to run as smoothly. Same with triple and quad channel motherboards, make sure to purchase 3 or 4 modules for those types. Having fast and good memory is very important just like with humans. For any further questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us directly.

5 out of 5 eggsRipjaws - Great series for RAM

Pros: DDR3 memory running at 1600MHz for RAM
the brand G.Skill has been very reliable for me so far
low voltage at 1.5V
Comes with heat spreader already on
Runs very cool (never had RAM run so hot though)
Easy, click and install, no need for configuration because Asus MoBo and Windows 7 recognizes it right away
Great for my HTPC build, just watching HD content and no intense video gaming at all

Cons: None so far for my HTPC build.

Other Thoughts: Solid performer for my HTPC. Forget the specs with 16000MhZ, and timing stuff...overall you just need to know if it works or not....

At the end of the day, just make sure your MoBo supports the 240-pin configuration and can accept 2 of these RAM sticks and if you need 4GB of RAM for your PC build (whether for school, HTPC, even higher end builds). These GSkill Ripjaws series just works...end of story.

On another note, I've had GSkill RAM on my 2nd PC I've build almost like 5 years ago when they only had 2GB (2x 1GB) MAX...and it' still running till this day!

5 out of 5 eggsG.Skill Ripjaw Series 4GB

Pros: Love these perform excellent, no probz at all. Even though I am not a gamer & neub to over clocking I gave it a try. Didn't really mess it up and stayed in the moderate zone. I am running a memory black hole photo manipulation program & these work great, no bogging down or program freezes. Only regret is that I did not buy the 8GB set since my MSI MoBo only has two slots. My other tower has 4 and am running 8GB G.Skill Sniper series so I can run a video editing & photo manipulation programs at the same time.Eventually will be bumping that up to 16GB

Cons: none

4 out of 5 eggsOk for AMD APU A8 7600

Pros: Purchased for my girlfriend for her Kaveri Build. I should have done more research before purchasing these rams. They are solid but for a Kaveri chip the higher and faster ram wins. Nothing wrong with this set but don't make the same mistake as I did.

Cons: 1 Star taken off for neweggs return policy, 10 dollars for 1 set of ram is a bit ridiculous when my whole shipping cost less than that.

Other Thoughts: Went with the G Skill Sniper 2133 2 x 4

Manufacturer Response:

.
Dear Customer

Thank you for your G.Skill purchase and review. Glad to hear G.Skill RAM is working well in your computers. For Accelerated Processing Units that include a graphics processor, it is imperative to have high bandwidth memory as it relies heavily on shared system RAM to operate. For these types of systems, high memory capacity and high frequency RAM is extremely beneficial as the entire system and graphics processing unit shares the same bandwidth and capacity. Based on our testing, the optimal frequency is DDR3-2133 and the ideal capacity is 8GB+ for gamers and high performance users. The DDR3-2133 2 x 4GB Sniper series kit you purchased was the perfect choice. Should you have any further questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us directly.

5 out of 5 eggsGood sticks of RAM

Pros: G.Skill is a highly reliable brand of RAM and has never steered me wrong. At the time, this was one of the cheapest 4GB (2x2GB) kit on Newegg.

Cons: Red doesn't match all rigs. Wish they offered more colors at this price point.

Other Thoughts: I'd always recommend G.skill. Their sticks are quality.

2 out of 5 eggsRam gone bad

Pros: this ram worked good for 6 months or so. Had no complaints.

Cons: After that it went down hill. I got 16gb 4x4, it would not load windows 7. I had my son look at it , he said two were bad. he took 2 out it worked for 3 weeks. I should have 8gb, but when I play minecraft hexxit it kicks a warning not enough memory to run windows 7. Tells me to close everything. My son said the ram is faulty, he said 8gb would be plenty to run windows and hexxit. will g skill replace them if so how do I go about sending them back.

Manufacturer Response:

.
Dear Customer

We will be glad to help you with this. Good to hear the memory was working well for 6 months. You mentioned 16GB, but this is a 4GB kit. If you purchased two kits, it is 8GB. If a couple modules are not working properly, send them in for RMA exchange and we can send you new ones right away. Once you receive the replacements, make sure to configure settings in BIOS, then the system should be fast and reliable. Visit the G.Skill website for complete RMA procedure. For any further questions or concerns, feel free to contact us directly.
