1 out of 5 eggsDOA

Pros: Say's it's good memory never got a chance to use it

Cons: i installed it on my Asrock Z68 pro gen 3 motherboard and what happen was amazing. PC didn't boot up and a smell came from the case. i opened up the case and saw it was coming from the RAM slot. I took out the ram and next thing you know i see one of this ram that i purchased one of the gold ram parts where chipped in half ( and surprisingly it was only 1 gold slot that was chipped in half lolol what does that tell you). and it messed up my Motherboard as well. After i did a RMA on my motherboard i put back my old ram just the way i put in these new ones and everything worked perfect. i really don't know what newegg gave me but it was a faulty ram that they gave. I called newegg to get a RMA on this ram and they told me that it was my fault that this happened and didn't install it properly. lololol to them for trying to sell a faulty ram and not wanting to replace it . How is it that i have build all my friends computer and i even put in my old ram in my RMAed board and none of this has happened. I am really scared to buy RAM from newegg now.

Other Thoughts: this happened in 2012 and i have not bought ram from newegg ever since. I still can't believe they sold me a faulty ram and they blamed me for it. Since 2009 i have been building PC's and not one accident like this has happened to me. And i have not bought a single computer hardware from newegg ever since. just reading how people are getting DAO computer hardware makes me not want to buy it from here. i only buy from the manufactured websites now. If i do decide to buy from here i hope i don't get another faulty hardware because that will completely do it for me.

Manufacturer Response:

.
Dear Customer

We are sorry to hear you had such issues. Defective memory will either not boot, or boot up but have errors. The RAM module itself can not cause spark unless it is not in full contact with the motherboard memory slots. In the future, make sure to fully press down on each end of the RAM. They should click right in with a solid sound. If not, try it again, it does not hurt to try several times. It is more important to get a feel that everything is installed properly. Should you need any help with it or have any further questions, please feel free to contact us directly.

Thank you

5 out of 5 eggsReliable, established DDR3 by G.SKILL

Pros: I'll throw in a brief plug for this item, although even "mainstreamers" will be less likely to buy it at this stage of DDR3 technology: it's only a 4GB=2x2GB kit of these "Gerbils" as I like to call them.

The -GBRL RipJaws RAM kits were superb. I bought them initially in 2011 for a Sandy Bridge computer project. A year later, I added a second kit to fill all four slots. I soon discovered -- putting together responses from G.SKILL tech support and tech-forum veterans -- that you could run 4x4GB of these GBRL DDR3-1600 RAMs @ DDR3-1866 with 10-10-10-32 timings. Under that configuration, you would not need to increase VDIMM voltage beyond the 1.5V spec; you would only need to bump up the VCCIO or similar voltage for the Integrated Memory Controller by maybe 0.13V and well within the recommended limit of 1.2V

A year afterward, I replaced the 4x4GB configuration with 2x8GB of G.SKILL RipJaws Z - 16GZH so I could use the Gerbils in another system.

We decided, for my brother's new machine, to give it an extra 4GB of RAM because we are using a RAM-caching solution to speed up both the Sammy 840 boot drive and an SSD-cached HDD. Bro would never need 16GB.

It might have been "cost-effective" to get the 2x4GB kit of Gerbils for $60-something. But our need was limited, and the ~ $40 pricetag on these was good enough.

Cons: None. I like to be a wise shopper and keep the manufacturers jumping to do better. But if you find a product line that performs well through two or more generations (DDR, DDR2, DDR3, etc.), it has "hidden" capabilities (see other thoughts) that other RAM-makers might actually discourage, and the tech support is always quick and responsive (also see "other thoughts") by E-MAIL, you become a loyal customer.

Other Thoughts: I may have said that these modules -- whether 2x2, 2x4 or 4x4 configurations -- will run at DDR3-1866 10-10-10 and their spec voltage. I forgot to mention that they will run at CMD=1 or CR=1 -- the command-rate. And that's probably the BIGGEST if not the only reason that the IMC voltage needs a little extra boost.

I've occasionally had two G.SKILL RAM modules out a dozen 2x kits arrive defective or just "go bad." "SH-tuff happens." They've got a good track record on their QC-defective rate, but this is surpassed by the quick RMA turnaround and reliability if you have to send a module or kit back.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Memory

Pros: Looks, ease of installation, performance.

Cons: Wasn't FREE!

Other Thoughts: Interestingly, the design of the heat-spreader with flat spots on both ends really helps to seat them comfortably by giving you a nice place to gently push!

Used these in 3 systems so far and they perform perfectly... AMD and Intel.
