5 out of 5 eggsConsistency

Pros: Works as described and can take OCing very well.

Cons: There is no cons!

Other Thoughts: 5 years after buying my rig I finally decided to up the memory from 4 to 8 gig. I was afraid the time laps would have made the channels incompatible or somewhat buggy… but no, since they were installed my system is just as rock solid as before. This is the usual consistency of G.Skill products.

1 out of 5 eggs2nd set and rma

Pros: Bought a set of these back in 2012, and never had a problem out of them. Runs fine, never read anything about lower latencies until 667 speeds. DDR2 is so much simpler to understand than ddr3.

Cons: On my second set, I never tested them when I got them, and started noticing, just about a year later, a little bit more crashes, and weird things happening on my computer than really usual. I run Memtest86+ and 1 of the 2 new sticks is giving me errors, just tiny just enough for me to barely notice it. Also taking it out it seemed hotter than the others after testing. The bad part, I send them in for rma. Not barely over a year later, actually 1 year 2 weeks later, and they tell me all they have to send me is ddr2 1000, these F2-8000CL5D-4GBPQ for a replacement.

On that day, yesterday, these ones right here that I sent back for rma where out of stock. Now today there here. And the ones they showed me yesterday are showing, out of stock. Sure theyre stock disappeared and reappeared. I ordered these thigns for the speed on them and want it to match my other set as I'm using the speed on them. I don't want lesser especially for something I just barely ordered over a year ago.

These sticks of ram have been out of stock for about almost 6 months maybe or so, as ive rechecked these just to look at them, and seen ddr2 was getting harder.

But to order something a year before they sold, and sold after I bought them for I dont know how long but for a while in stock, then to have them go out and them to try to send me something lesser barely a year later, telling me their these are out of stock, which have been on newegg for a few months here, and try to send me something else which are leser than what I ordered.

I told them i wanted a refund instead and no i didnt want them, and they told me today they dont offer refunds is the only reason I'm here and seen this, to comment. makes me wished I didnt just order some sticks I just got from them kinda and maybe, ill turn them back to order from a company that doesnt try to jip you. Nice business g skill, out of stock already? 1 day later your inventory on the internet turns around and seems you have these but none of the others. right i believe that every single kit you have are gone and mine just dont happen to be around, barely a year later.

Ram is probably not good quality anymore. Might just send back my recent order and try some other ram company rather.

Other Thoughts: I think the ram has went down in quality.

Dear Customer

Glad to hear this memory kit has been working well in your system. DDR2 is becoming extremely rare and especially high performance modules like DDR2-1066, they can be impossible to come by. RAM is not a mass produced item so we can not simply make another kit to send you. For an item that is in such limited quantity, we can replace with a comparable item or you can wait to see if the item comes back in stock. Should you have any further questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us directly.

Thank you

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent RAM and RMA

Pros: Fantastic RAM, very fast and works great. Upgraded my old system with this pack and it was incredibly faster.

Cons: Did have both sticks fail eventually. First stick failed followed by the second stick a while longer.

Other Thoughts: RMA Policy is fantastic. Contacted G Skill and they sent me replacements right away. Just filled out their form and shipped the sticks out to them and had new ones sent promptly.

Fantastic customer service from G Skill, they don't let you down.

4 out of 5 eggsgreat memory

Pros: great memory. replaced stock heat sink for more cooling power, great price

Cons: went to go order a 2nd set and the price more then doubled to $179.00... outrageous price for such out dated hardware

Other Thoughts: newer, faster ram can be purchased cheaper

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer

Thank you for your G.Skill purchase and review. Glad to hear the memory works great and you got it at a great price. This is the best DDR2 memory kit avaiable on the market. No more chips are being produced so you can see that reflected in pricing. You are correct in that newer kits, especially those currently in production, will have a lower price. Older kits like high performance DDR2-1066 will continuously become more rare so it is possible for price to increase. Keep in mind G.Skill does not set pricing, that is managed by the vendor. Should you have any further questions or concerns, please feel free to let us know.

5 out of 5 eggsAmazing Support

Pros: RAM worked at rated 1066 speeds (you need to adjust your voltage, I think mine are at 2.2).

Cons: Had a stick fail ~2 years later, random application crashes and BSOD's. But see Other thoughts for RMA info.

Other Thoughts: I RMA'd a single stick of this memory more than two years after purchase. The process was pretty seamless online, with G.Skill contacting me within 48 hours with the RMA information. No fuss. I shipped the faulty stick back to them, they immediately sent me a new package. Here's the thing, they sent a whole package of two sticks, not just one. So, I guess I have a spare DIMM in case another one fails or I need to do some testing. Their return shipping was pretty slow, taking about 8 days to get it here. But, as far as satisfied goes I am pretty up there, they accepted the RMA without disagreement, and stood by their warranty. Way to go G.Skill!

3 out of 5 eggsNot what I was expecting from adverts!

Pros: None

Cons: Freezes computer every time I try and even slightly overclock. Did better speeds with PC2-6400U 666 hynix!!!!!!!!!!!!! Go figure...

Other Thoughts: Do not buy these.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer

We will be glad to help with this issue. The RAM is guaranteed at the rated specifications, so they will surely outperform any DDR2-800 RAM. Keep in mind the high speed will cause a lot of stress for the memory controller, so additional tweaks may be necessary to stabilize the system. Should you need any assistance with this, please feel free to contact us directly.

2 out of 5 eggsOK but not great.

Pros: OK sticks but not great.

Cons: One of the sticks was faulty, computer would randomly not boot and required several tries of restarts.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer

We are sorry to hear you are not fully satisfied with your purchase. These are the fastest DDR2 modules on the market, so you should be pleased with the performance. The specifications are above standard, so make sure to configure settings in BIOS to run at full speed. If you need any help with that, please feel free to let us know. If you believe a module is defective, send it in for RMA exchange and a replacement should work much better. Visit the G.Skill website for complete RMA procedure.

2 out of 5 eggsVery disappointed

Pros: High-speed DDR2

Cons: Expensive for this amount of RAM.
No exchange or refund.
Manufacturer support (see below).

Other Thoughts: Bought this kit for a project I was trying to maximize.
Part of the blame is on me, I bought this for an AMD-based system without noticing that, under the Specifications tab, only Intel chipsets were listed as compatible.
I completed the physical build, set the BIOS for DDR2-1066 RAM and booted the system from a Memtest86+ CD. Almost immediately, over 200 RAM errors were displayed.
I checked my order history and found there was no RAM link or button next to this purchase, no way to return or exchange.
I contacted G.Skill Customer Support and asked for help. They responded quickly and offered a couple suggestions. One of the suggestions was to run the RAM as DDR2-800 at 4-4-4-12 timings (which, coincidentally, matches the settings of their F2-6400CL4D-4GBPK kit that sells at a much lower price).
When I pointed this out, the response was rather "snarky", suggesting I was inexperienced and not very bright for trying to get "high performance out of an AMD platform.
I transferred the RAM to an old Gigabyte GA-G31M-ES2L and tweaked BIOS settings to get the AM to run at 1066MHz. It runs stably, but the SPDs still read as DDR2-800.
Between the price I had to pay for this RAM, the fact that I'm "stuck" with it and how I practically had to beat the rated performance out of it, I'm very disappointed with this purchase.
I have bought G.Skill RAM, almost exclusively, for several years and I know they make a good product.
The support experience I had with this product, however, knocks G.Skill completely off of my buy list.
I have a few kits in my current stockpile, but I won't be buying any more.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer

Glad to hear you got the RAM working at full speed in another computer that can support DDR2-1066. This is the best desktop DDR2 memory kit on the market, so the price is reasonable for what it is. Not all CPUs can support DDR2-1066, so if you have hardware that does not, the RAM can still be used, but the RAM must be set to a lower frequency in BIOS to run properly. For your AMD motherboard and CPU combination, most likely the ideal speed to set it to is DDR2-800 4-4-4-12 2.0V, so that is what the technical support representative suggested to you for optimal performance. As you discovered, with a capable motherboard and CPU, you had no problems running the RAM at full speed. Through NewEgg, you have a 30 day return and exchange period, so within that time frame you have options to get a different item or a refund. For any further questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us directly.

1 out of 5 eggsIt worked for 2 years

Pros: At the time a good price not so much now.

Cons: When you do a RMA they will tell you to insure for loss yet they do not insure for loss on the return trip so if they get lost in the mail it will be on you. It's hit or miss as far as email I had only a 50% response rate. I never got a single email during RMA process just an anonymous email from stamps telling me an unknown shipment was mailed from California. I Joined there forums and activated my account in hopes of opening up lines of communication but from the instant my account was activated I had no posting privileges. NEVER AGAIN WILL I BUY G.SKILL.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer

We will be glad to help with this issue. If we received your RMA return, we guarantee you to receive a working replacement back. So you are responsible for making sure we receive the return, and we will make sure you receive new hardware. If there is any issue, you can contact any support email, telephone, or forum support and a representative will be glad to help. The G.Skill RMA process is quick and hassle free. We don't take days to check in your product and diagnose the return so we can send you details. We believe you need your computer running, so once you receive your RAM, we are going to send you new memory back right away. We would like to solve the issue immediately rather than keep you posted on the status of your RMA. With regards to the forum, there is a temporary wait period to filter SPAM users, so that is why you were unable to immediately post. You should now have full access to the G.Skill technical forum. For any further questions or concerns, please feel free to let us know directly.
