Positioned at the intersection of performance and value, Chronos SSDs provide next-generation SSD responsiveness by utilizing asynchronous NAND Flash technology. Say goodbye to rotational hard drive sluggishness by adding a Chronos SSD to your system today!

• INDUSTRY-LEADING PERFORMANCE
Driven by the second generation of SandForce SSD controller (SF-2281), the Chronos Series is designed and built to unleash the full potential of the 6Gbps SATA III interface. The Chronos pushes the limits in both sequential and random data transfer rates, significantly improving your productivity, gaming, multimedia, and overall computing experience.

• A SUPERIOR PC EXPERIENCE
In addition to maximum performance, a Chronos SSD upgrade promotes cooler, quieter, and more energy efficient conditions compared to traditional mechanical hard drives. With no moving parts, SSDs provide peace of mind with their superior durability and reliability. Chronos series SSDs work in perfect harmony with next generation platforms and operating systems to deliver the ultimate storage solution.

• TRIM SUPPORT
The Chronos Series SSDs offer native TRIM support featured in Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2. Designed to maintain the performance of SSD at an optimal level over the lifetime of the drive, TRIM functions by actively deleting invalid data from the SSD’s memory cells to ensure that write operations perform at full speed. Since a memory block must be erased before it can be re-programmed, TRIM improves performance by pro-actively erasing pages containing invalid data, allowing the SSD to write new data without first having to perform a time-consuming erase command.

3 out of 5 eggsFailed after 1 and a half years

Pros: Cheap and fast, great while it worked

Cons: this is like the 8th drive to fail from mushkin - sad because i liked their product but now i dont even order even if on clearance.

Other Thoughts: Spend your $$ else where

3 out of 5 eggsTook 2 to get 1 good one

Pros: Newegg made replacing the first bad drive easy.
Once the second drive was installed, it worked as expected.

Cons: First drive was defective. BIOS would not recognize the drive in AHCI mode, but did in IDE mode. However, Windows could not format the drive in IDE mode, so the OS would not install.

Other Thoughts: I saw all the negative reviews and thought the drive could not be that bad, and the price was great, so I decided to go for it. I guess you get what you pay for. The first drive was not completely dead, but unusable. It would not work with AHCI, and IDE mode would get me to the point where Windows was formatting the drive in preparation for OS installation, and would then fail. I spent about 8 hours troubleshooting with different computers and then trying to upgrade the firmware, but no go. So, I returned the drive to Newegg ( an easy process that did not cost anything ), and then got the replacement drive 1 week later. I put it in and it worked as expected, and has been OK since. This drive was only used for an offsite backup development server, so I was not down any working time, but it was frustrating to have all but 1 piece of the computer ready, and have to wait a week for the replacement drive.

I have used a number of Mushkin drives in the past and they have all worked out of the box and are still running fine today. Maybe this was just a bad model or was build with a batch of bad parts.

1 out of 5 eggsAnother dead Mushkin Enhanced Chronos 2.5" 240GB SATA III 7mm Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) MKNSSDCR240GB-7

Pros: Easy setup, Fast, Reliable while it worked.

Cons: Started seeing bad sectors after one month of low use. Suddenly died in about 5 months - nothing. Looks hopeless. Due to instruction from Sue at Mushkin, I emailed a detailed report and asked for RMA - I have not heard anything back after 30 days so far. Mushkin Sue added "I apologize for the issue that you’re having with our 240GB Chronos 7mm SSD. Our customer and technical support are here to assist you with troubleshooting your issue. If we cannot find a resolution, we will be more than happy to replace your drive."

1 out of 5 eggsTotally failed after 9 months

Pros: Emailed company and they are replacing the HD but have not received a new one yet so hopefully they follow through. Could not return through Newegg. But Mushkin was backing their warranty

Cons: Failed after 9 months of use. Could not recover anything, all gone PC could not even find HD, Could not locate HD to boot from, took it out and had the HD tested, All info gone. Could not recover anything, first experience with SSD and they said once they fail that is it. But after 9 months, good thing I back up all important info, lesson learned back up every week.

Other Thoughts: Would not buy this again, had a 500G Samsung 850 that I used to store games and other items. Had to wipe that and spend a day getting back up and running. Spend the few extra 10 buck and get a better brand name.

1 out of 5 eggsFast but not reliable

Pros: Very fast!
Customer support very good!

Cons: First one lasted three weeks.
Second one lasted two weeks.
Strike three - Third one lasted six months.

Other Thoughts: No more. I'm done buying Mushkin. Customer service is great about sending you a new one but I can't keep replacing my SSD every 2 weeks to 6 months.

3 out of 5 eggsQuality control? Great Customer Service!

Pros: -Cheap per GB as far as SSD's go
-Fast
-Great customer support if you need an RMA

Cons: -Failed after 12 months.
-Shouldnt need and RMA in the first place

Other Thoughts: I purchased two of these drives and had one fail after about 12 months. I was hesitant to contact customer support due to the loops I thought I would have to jump through. Turns out it was super simple and fast, I had an RMA number within half an hour and received a new drive (still a chronos but a newer model) promptly. While I have to say if taking the chance is simply unacceptable then spend more money and get a different Mushkin drive like the ECO2 or a Samsung or Kingston drive instead. I am happy with these drives for the price and overall performance but I do think some of these models were defective. I havent tried the newer model yet but Im hoping it fairs better than the original one I had.

Manufacturer Response:

Thank you for choosing Mushkin.
We appreciate your feedback and support.

1 out of 5 eggsYou get what you pay for

Pros: It was cheap

Cons: First drive failed in 5 months.

RMA Replacement failed within a week after installing it (though, it was about 9 months later that I finally installed it)

Second replacement just failed. When I asked Mushkin if they could replace it with another brand, they offered to send me another model. I'll edit this review again when the fourth replacement fails. Given their quality[sic], I expect that in the next month.

Quality seemed to be maintained while it sat on my shelf, but, I'd rather not pay to not use a product.

Other Thoughts: Perhaps Mushkin could charge a little more, and use that money to harden their products.

One drive replaced three times in 9 months of use is unacceptable, in my opinion.

I will not buy a Mushkin product again. Buyer beware.

4 out of 5 eggsTech support to the rescue

Pros: Drive worked great until it didn't. I had a hard time contacting support and it seemed like I was getting no response. I posted here and was promptly contacted by the support team. They resolved the problem with a firmware update. Very professional and helpful once we connected... Sue Y. was the person who helped me... Thank you Sue!

Cons: For some reason I had a hard time getting a ticket started with tech support - may have been all on my end?? Once connected they solved the issues promptly.

Other Thoughts: Worked fine and apparently needed a firmware update... a little rough start in connecting with tech support but like a good company with good people they came through in the end. I was quite frustrated at first but its all in the past now.

Manufacturer Response:

Thank you for choosing Mushkin.
We appreciate your feedback and support.

I'm glad I was able to help! Happy Holidays!

1 out of 5 eggsAbrupt failure

Pros: It worked.
It was very fast.
The price was right.

Cons: It abruptly failed after about 8 months of use. I check my disks regularly, there was no complains in SMART. Nothing. I just turned off my computer one evening, turned it back on in the morning, and the drive was dead.
