Patroit Torqx a clear leader in SSD technology...
- Pros: Editors like PureOverClock.com are giving this drive rave reviews and Maximum PC rated this an overall better choice over OCZ and IBM. It's very fast, and one of the fastest drives out there. Windows 7 x64 Enterprise edition runs this drive great and rates it as a 7.3. This Generation 2 MLC SSD works in AHCI mode. It utilizes an Indilinx "Barefoot" controller that commands a bank of Samsung K9HCG08U1M DRAM modules. Running an ASUS RAMPAGE FORMULA LGA 775 Intel X48 ATX Intel Motherboard, Intel 9550 2.8Ghz processor, OCZ Flex DD2 liquid cooled memory, Hitachi 7200RPM 1Tb hard drive for storage, and a XFX Geforce 8800GTS. Here are my times with a Hitachi HDP7250GLA360 normal hard drive: Startup to logon screen: 29 sec, Desktop: 8.47 sec, Go to sleep 20 sec, wakeup 7 sec, shutdown 9.16 sec, Open MS Word 5.41 sec, open IE 6.08 sec. Patriot Torqx: Login screen 17 sec, Desktop 7.34 sec, Go to sleep 11.32 sec, wakeup 6.56 sec, open MS Word 1.34 sec, open IE 2.65 second.
- Cons: The obvious negative is it costs to be fast in the PC world. Face it, it's leap frog technology as Maximum PC stated, in a year this would be old news but for now it's sooooo nice as it makes Windows run the way it should've run as if the BLOAT factor was never really there.
- Other Thoughts: The 1571 firmware is now available for download for this drive via the Patriot web site. Read up on SSD technology, it's not like a normal hard drive that you'll just pop in your computer and run with (this is true with any SSD drive). Maximum PC doesn't recommend that you defrag SSD drives as it may ruin the drive over a period of time. You should know that only Windows Vista and Windows 7 will properly align the partition to maximize performance of the drive Windows XP will not. In addition, there are some XP tweaks you may want perform for SSDs after loading the OS. You'll have to look this up as I don't have enough space to write them and I can't hyperlink them per Newegg policy. As stated below Patriot is now offering a 10 year warranty on this device. Couldn't believe that this thing started up faster than the BIOS post, but it does. Course I'm running Windows 7 x64 Enterprise and this may help vs. clunky ole Vista.
PS3 Preffered
- Pros: First off I realized that this was 2.5 in, so i bought it and went to install in my computer and i noticed that it was exactly the same form of my old ps3 hdd that i have installed for extra space on my PC! a 500 gig drive is now installed in my ps 3, then i wondered hmmm....
will this play in my ps3????? installed and now enjoy an almost heatless and laser fast hdd for my ps3, there are many titles that you can see a huge difference in, such as Call of Duty WaW, bought map packs are loaded in an instant!!! you never even see the bar load up, just says awaiting connection or setting up game, because everyone else is still loading!!
- Cons: The price!!! could have went and bought another ps3 for the price:)
- Other Thoughts: Sony should start looking in to building these for the next systems or implementing it in with it, i also didnt purchase this here, i wish i would have because its 49 dollars cheaper here:P

Amazing Performance
- Pros: This is an amazing hard drive! I have this installed in my HP 8510w notebook and I couldn't be happier. The drive was recognized instantly during installation and Windows XP Pro installed and has been running at lightning speeds for months now. The speed at which my PC boots, opens applications, installs programs and saves documents is simply jaw dropping.
It sounds like there was a bad batch of these drives early on, but it seems as though they have solved those quality issues as my drive has been rock solid for months now with heavy daily usage.
- Cons: High prices on SSDs - but worth the extra coin if you're looking for speed.
- Other Thoughts: As always, NewEgg processed and shipped my order wicked fast.
Great drive with some quirks
- Pros: Big jump from mechanical drives
Fast transfers Comes with converters to 3.5 inch drive (for my workstation) Makes Windows load fast Great warranty TRIM support (win 7)
- Cons: I had to knock down a star cause I had to use the warranty once. It worked all great in my workstation, but when I switched to a new computer and moved the drive, it died with 4 hours of use. Patriot replaced it for me immediately. Still... I was a week without system drive.
- Other Thoughts: This is now my operating system drive. Sometimes I wonder how I could live without SDDs in my workstation.
Oh, make sure you upgrade to latest firmware (you can check your firmware version in device manager)
Don't get it.
- Pros: Probably a more important review. I've had this drive for 6 months now ran in vista Ult. 64 through to Windows 7 64 Ult. Absolutely perfect. Fast and reliable in my EliteBook. Business sensitive material running. No problems. Turn off defrag, superfetch, and read about how SSD's work if you don't know. Sorry to hear that some of these drives have failed. don't get it no moving parts and that's the beauty! Staying with Firmware 1571. If it works don't fix it!
- Cons: Prepare yourself. this is not like defrag. Patriot's Drive performance utility can take up to 24 hours. What does it do? Answer, it doesn't necessarily make the drive faster but it packs the data so there's more room. Warning. The more filled up the drive is with "stuff" the less value this utility will have as in found free space. When the drive reported 52GB free in win7 ran the utility and it got me to 64GB free. When the drive reported 35GB free it only got me to 39GB.
- Other Thoughts: Go for it. It sounds like there was a bad batch of these and it looks like Patriot stands behind their product. Dowload Crystal Disk Info to keep track of things. Just gives you some added piece of mind
