5 out of 5 eggsThe Best RAM for AM3

Pros: I built a system using the AMD Phenom II x 4 955 BE on an Asus MOBO M4a79xtd evo. I initially went with the G Skills Ripjaws 2x2gb 1600 DDR3 RAM. But ran into memory problems, would not pass Memtest 86, even at 1333. So I began a search for better RAM. I found the AM3 processors have an issue with the memory controller and are not easy to find high speed, low latency ram that is compatible.
The Corsair Dominator DDR3 1600 with the "B" in the number is specifically designed for the AM3. I can say it certainly is.
These chips are described as 8-8-8-24 @1600MHZ, I am running them @ 7-7-7-20, cmd rate 1T. I ran MEMTEST 86 for 1 hour and no issues whatsoever.
Yes, They are the most expensive, I guess in this case you do get what you pay for.
I am OverClocking @ 3.6mhz on the 955 BE with these. I can tell a real difference in the speed too. They are bigger and Heavier than the G skills, but they did clear the V8 cooler.

Cons: The most Expensive

Other Thoughts: The issue with the AM3 Processor Memory controller is not well advertised. The reason most MOBO run a default of 1333 is due to to this. I had to do a lot of Internet surfing to dig it up. Newegg is a good company and has taken my G skills back. My computer ran with the G skills, but would hiccup , If I had'nt run Memtest86 I would have never discovered the real problem.

5 out of 5 eggsEasy Build

Pros: This Memory works EXCELLENT with AMD Black processors. My whole build went so smoothly, it's ridiculous. Even without a high level of techs-pertise, nearly anyone could put the parts together I purchased from Newegg and have a GREAT computer for gaming or everyday use.

Cons: None so far, will report back if I find any.

Other Thoughts: My rig:

5 out of 5 eggs7-7-7-20

Pros: i decided to take a shot at running this ram at 7-7-7-20 (still 1600mhz), i immediately ran memtest for several hours, and didn't receive a single error
i've been running it as such for about a day now (as i type), and still haven't ran into any problems

Cons: none so far

Other Thoughts: achieved this on a 785g asus board and a phenom II 965BE 125 watt version processor

Pros: Actually works as advertised with AM3 CPUs.
Heatsink looks pretty cool.
Seems like a reasonable value.

Cons: As others have noted, the BEMP support does not seem to work. Setting the timings manually is trivial and not surprising for anyone familiar with the AM2+/3 platform.

Other Thoughts: I've had trouble in the past getting other brands of RAM to work in the advertised "OC" mode with a Phenom II 965 123w. This stuff runs stable at 800mhz dual channel un-ganged with 8-8-8-24 timings using said processor and an MSI 790FX-GD70.

5 out of 5 eggsExtremely Satisfied

Pros: 1600mhz, 8-8-8-24: all day long, rock solid. you won't find better ram for an amd platform at this price; if you find something as quick, i bet you it won't be as stable.

on a purely aesthetic note: this ram is quite sharp

as with any other corsair product i've purchased, it's packaged extremely well: each stick is separately encased in semi-hard plastic

Cons: i haven't ran into any, nor have i thus far with the twin matched corsair xms2 sticks i've been running in my old computer for over 3 years.

Other Thoughts: as many people have mentioned, this ram is default set to 1333mhz at 9-9-9, 1.5 volts: which you can easily change in bios to the advertised specs in literally under a minute

matched it with an amd 965 BE phenom II and an asus m4a785td-v evo: it all went together out of the box, without hitch, in no longer than it took me to plug everything into the board, screw the board into my case, and fire it up. i couldn't be happier

1 out of 5 eggsIt hurts to sit...

Pros: After manually setting the timings it is very fast & stable.

Cons: So far BEMP doesn't exist & has no support. Corsair says it's AMD's problem, & the rep I spoke with at AMD literally had no idea what Black Edition Memory Profiles were!

There are no profiles to download & it's not like they come preloaded or anything! Corsair & AMD both refuse to give up the XML file to allow you to manually load the profiles as well!

Why would you market a product that has a specific feature (BEMP) & charge more money for it when that feature isn't available & offer no support for it..? Both companies have made no mention as to when support for BEMP will improve if ever. The answer is always the same. "Just set the timings to 8-8-8-24 in bios". So that's how you turn BEMP on!?

Other Thoughts: If I could do it over again I would just buy the Intel/XMP version of the ram with the exact same specs (8-8-8-24, 1.65V) & save myself $20-$50 by setting the timing myself... like I had to do with this ram.

Manufacturer Response:

We are sorry that AMD is not able to support BEMP at this time. We have done what we are required to do and provided them the profile information.

Also, keep in mind that your kit is the "B" version of the 1600C8 which is in fact tuned for better operation on the AMD platform. It is very likely that you would not be able to get the same level of performance from the "A" version. So, regardless of the lack of BEMP support from AMD, you did buy the correct version of memory.

1 out of 5 eggsNo BEMP!!!!!

Pros: The memory works after you set the timings and voltage yourself.

Cons: I had to set the memory timings and voltage myself. That's not what I paid for. AMD doesn't offer any support for BEMP and neither does Corsair. When you try to load the BEMP it says no update. Save yourself some money and buy cheaper ram. If you don't trust me check Corsairs forums. There are a ton of complaints and no answers.
