5 out of 5 eggsLove this machine!

Pros: 12 drives in a 2U server and it includes a HARDWARE raid card and a dedicated IPMI nic. I couldn't be happier! Supermicro is really nailing servers now. Usually I buy a 3ware hardware card (can't stand software raid) for our supermicro servers and generally have to re-run the sata cables. This machine comes fully SATA wired and the LSI card is awesome. We're using this machine as a remote backup server (lower-end CPU's) and are very happy. Purchased 48GB's of (2 x http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820139273), two of these CPU's (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819117271), and 12 of these (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136798). Everything fit and booted immediately.

Cons: None so far.

1 out of 5 eggsGood Luck With Warranty

Pros: Price Kind of.

Cons: Screen just goes black and the machine is locked up. Reinstalled server 2012 3 times. Supermicro Tech support wouldn't help me because I used Kingston recommended memory (sold at newegg) instead of Supermicro tested memory (which isn't sold at newegg). I am 6 days past the 30 day mark so I cant send it back to newegg. All items total about $6000 and now I have to order another $700 for memory somewhere else so it will be Supermicro tested memory... So when it doesn't actually fix the problem, well... at least they can't deny support of it due to memory. Any money saved by buying Supermicro barebones was more than lost just on memory. Newegg not supporting RMA past at 37 days on this server is unacceptable. Even if switching the memory that Kingston says will work for the tested memory from supermicro, even if this does fix it, I still set with $800$600 of memory that I'm sure Newegg won't take back either. Then what, goto Kingston for support? I am learning a hard lesson and with Supermicro support being what it is and Neweggs 30 day and your dumped policy I am sure I will never build out another bare bones server again. I will go to Dell or HP and get the Warranty and support I deserve for $6 grand!
Building a desktop is one thing, but when you start talking dollar amounts of a decent server, getting the parts and building then running to 5 different manufacturers (each blaming the other) for warranty is unacceptable. This won't happent to me again!

Other Thoughts: Machine is listed as Windows server 2012 compatable, but the drivers for the Raid Controller aren't available from supermicro for this OS.
Buy a prebuilt server from Dell or HP and only have to deal with one company for warranty
