Modify Fan then you're Good to Go
- Pros: Aftermarket cooler + PCS engineering = cooler and quieter operation.
Runs anything you throw at it, even GTA IV nearly maxed (need 2GB+ vram for absolute max settings).
- Cons: Use Riva Tuner to modify fan profile to have lower fan speeds for idle temps. Common issue among MANY video cards, not just this one.
- Other Thoughts: Stop looking, buy it. This isn't my first PowerColor either.
3rd card failed
- Pros: I just pulled my third powercolor 4870 card out of my computer. It failed the same way the first two did, VRM failure.
This is a know problem with Power color. google it and you will find many references.
- Cons: The card runs for about 3 months before the VRM burns out. At that point, there is nothing that can be done to save the piece. It is a shame, since the GPU, memory and cooler are fine, you just can't replace the burnt out VRM.
- Other Thoughts: avoid 601 LED lighting on your card, find a different supplier.

Manufacturer Response:That is very odd. Feel free to contact me directly to see if we can work on getting this situation resolved. If there is an issue with the cooling of the VRMs on this card I'd love to know so I can hopefully recreate the issue and get it resolved. So far we've received good feedback and haven't experienced any in-house problems in regards to VRMs overheating and failing after a few months of use. I can see how inconsistent or 'dirty' power can cause something like this over time though, especially if you've had 3 cards fail the exact same way. Either way, feel free to contact me so we can hopefully resolved this. Try and reference the Newegg review in your e-mail. usa@powercolor.com -Hugo
Still going strong...
- Pros: This card has served me well so far, no problems whatsoever! No fan noice, overheating, overloading, lagging, FPS drag, nadda! Its ATI!!
- Cons: None! Great card for a great price.
- Other Thoughts: I play PC gaming pretty frequently, in between Burnout Paradise, CoD, Flatout, Crysis, etc. This card exceeds all my expectations, i run high EVERYTHING at max of 1650x1080 res, looks great! One card to get, it will last you out!
