5 out of 5 eggsGood Choice

Pros: I have been running this board almost non-stop since I purchased it in march of 2009 and it's held up beautifully. It not only can handle the stress of gaming and constant use, but it also has held up great when overclocked.

Cons: The only real pain this board has is the giant heatsink between the CPU and backplate. It made it difficult to place the CPU power cable and my v8. I've had no issue with it, but it seems a bit flimsy as well.

Keep in mind the CMOS button on the backplate... people may be compelled to press it if they walk by it exposed. This can happen a lot in a college dorm setting.

Other Thoughts: I haven't had any issues with this product, but from others I can say that I appreciate EVGA tech support.

The machine I use this in not only is used for Gaming every chance I have, but also for multiple virtual machine constantly running. Note that I it's running with 12 gigs (OCZ/Patriot mix) of memory, the i7-940 processor (with v8 heatsink), and soon to be replaced 2 x GeForce 9700.

5 out of 5 eggsEVGA x58 3 SLI

Pros: Solid board, Everything works perefectly. High quality, nice color scheme & lots of features, tons of sata & usb ports I don't get why there's so many. Comes with Visual foldout guide. High quality onboard audio. onboard LED CPU temp readout. easy overclock utility, i7 930 to 4ghz is cake. two 16x pci-e slots. nice bios easy to use options, Boot-up time isn't as slow as some people mentioned but the beep does lag. Be aware of aftermarket cpu hsf fitment. overall I am very happy and lucky with my system.

Cons: 8pin 12v power connector is in a tight spot & watch out for vreg temps

3 out of 5 eggsMemory issues

Pros: Solid board, been running my 920 and 930s at 3.5ghz with no issues (at least none related to the mobo itself).

Cons: Memory compatibility. I was running OCZ3G1600LV6GK (OCZ gold 6G kit) for about 6 months with constant issues. Was getting 3.99 of my 6 gigs showing up, blue screens and constant memory errors (Aero would stop working due to Superfetch errors). Memtest showed no errors, and I could pass Prime95 small FFT for hours with no errors. Failed Blend in a matter of seconds. RMA'd every part of my computer, rebuilt from scratch, and the same issue. Just replaced my RAM with the Kingston KHX1600C8D3K3/6GX kit and passed 10 hours of blend, no issues.

Other Thoughts: Get the KHX1600C8D3K3/6GX kit for this board, or at least avoid the OCZ Gold kit. Went through 3 different sets of it and all of them had issues. I would have rated this board at a lower score, but it's working perfectly now, so I'm more annoyed at EVGA for listing RAM that didn't work in their compatibility list.

4 out of 5 eggsGet this board!

Pros: This board is a beast. easy to install, everything fits perfect. I read the reviews on here and thought i might be having trouble but i am not and its a VERY good motherboard.

Cons: i dont like the 16x 16x then 8x... why 8x? come on evga, you are better then this. i also didnt like how the cards and RIGHT underneath each other. my gpu 1 card is running 10c hotter then my 2ed one cause there rarely any air flow.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome Motherboard

Pros: Board posted the very first time and I have never had a problem since. Lifetime warranty is great and EVGA forums are awesome.

Cons: VREG heatsink is quite tall. I put this board in an Antec 1200 case and the height of the VREG heatsink prevented me from using a push/pull fan setup on a Corsair H50 mounted in the back of the case. Not really a big deal though.

5 out of 5 eggsI love it

Pros: passive mosfet heatsink, active NB cooling, great overclocking

Cons: passive mosfet heatsink, picky about ram.

audio connector in a bad spot, makes one PCI slot unusable.
sata ports are mounted sideways, makes it hard to reach them even in my monster case (ABS monolith)

Other Thoughts: Make sure your RAM is on the compatibility list. Othgerwise you may not be able to use all of it. I had to add some fans to the MOSET heatsink because it runs HOT

overall I am very happy with this board, 5 eggs easily.

4 out of 5 eggsEVGA strikes again!

Pros: LIFETIME WARRANTY IF REGISTERED WITH EVGA WITHIN 30 DAYS OF PURCHASE! EVGA has a great warranty and unmatched customer service! Stable board, has a ton of bios options, including V-droop control. Comes with a lot of cables. Shows CPU temp on LCD display while running. On board reset and power buttons. Also has CMOS reset button (on board and on I/O panel). Quiet north bridge fan compared to 680i and 780i. Lots of sata ports, eSATA is awesome! Dual ethernet connections. Nice layout, other than the ATX 8-pin connector (read cons).

Cons: The location of the 8pin ATX power connector. I had to basically jam the psu's connector in there because it was hitting the heat sink. I bent the bottom fin but oh well. Just makes it very difficult to connect, and extremely difficult to disconnect. No idea what they were thinking on this one.

RAID is difficult to set up in bios. I came from an EVGA 780i and the bios settings for RAID are totally different. The manual doesnt in any way tell you how to set bios.

4 eggs because of these two issues. May not have been 4 if the manual stated how to set up RAID, I spent a good bit of time searching google for it.

Other Thoughts: Wish it had SATA III and a little more room around the CPU for heatsink fans. Would think it would support more than 12gb of ram.

When its powered up the first time or after being unplugged from the psu, it may trick you. It will act like it starts for a second, shut down, and restart about 3 seconds later. Not sure what thats all about but the first time I powered up after install I kinda freaked out, then it restarted itself.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: No issues, put in an i7 and 5870 HD with 4gb and it works like a charm. Also 7tb through 5 drives.

Cons: None, just a bit on the expensive side.

1 out of 5 eggsDO YOUR RESERACH

Pros: Well packed, the instructions where very easy to follow. Boots very fast on default settings, dreadfully slow if not.

Cons: Oh boy where do I start

-VREG is HOT (80~90c at 4ghz overclock), limiting overclock and causing system instability.

-OVERCLOCKING is near impossible (unless you want to use 1.37v+ for a 4ghz overclock) due to a voltage spike bug. I have discussed this with various other owners and apparently this is not new, upon manually changing to a certain VCORE voltage in the bios, the board will FEED OVER 1.6V+ to your processor - this is EXTREMELY DANGEROUS

-RAM INCOMPATIBILITY is a huge issue. Upon overclocking (if you are lucky enough to get a non bugged board) the system will only use 3.99GB of ram out of 6GB (number depends on how much ram you have, some users are reporting 7.99 out of their 12GB) EVGA has rolled up an update on this issue (bios 74) in attempts to fix it, but some users are still experiencing this and seems the only way for a fix is to buy new "compatible" ram.

-Might have some clearance issues for popular heatsinks(such as NH-D14) due to MASSIVE VREG HEATSINK

Other Thoughts: Wow, what a disappointment. I should of SERIOUSLY study up on the product instead of impulse buying due to sales price.

Well anyhow, this is my first venture into the EVGA ball field and will be my last, but most importantly, I'll still waiting on their "customer support" to fix my issues; hopefully they'll stop shoving me around.

Oh and I'm crying as I write this, and is this what they call buyers remorse?

-----------

On another note, if you still intend on purchasing this, make sure to BUY their advanced RMA upon registration, unless you want to pay for you own shipping and wait months just to get your system backed up

Manufacturer Response:

Hi,

Can you please contact me directly at jacobf@evga.com, we are not aware of a voltage spike issue, I would like more details on this.

Also, if you only show 3.99MB, try setting the MCH Strap to DRAM Ratio when overclocking.

Thanks,
Jacob
