1 out of 5 eggs

Pros: - Good OC ability
- External USB 3.0 is nice
- Debug codes on board

Cons: - DCP Latency spikes
- Driver disk full of bloat

Other Thoughts: Replaced an asrock z68 with this only to get high DCP latency spikes. After spending several days disabling and enabling various components, features, BIOS settings and upgrading drivers, I was unable to reduce the spikes. This causes many audio drop outs and stuttering, which is a major problem for any one who works with audio equipment. For that reason, this motherboard becomes almost entirely useless to me, hence the 1/5 rating.

5 out of 5 eggsGood board!

Pros: Price/Functionality/Expandability

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I have owned this board for 2 years almost and just last month put in a second card in SLI. It picked it up no problem. It has been reliable with all the hours I have put on it. My Specs:

This MOBO
i7-3770k
16GB (4x4GB) RAM
GTX 680 FTWx2
850 Watt PSU
240GB SSD
500GB HDD
Ancient CD/DVD Burner (almost a decade old!)
Windows 8.1

Runs BF4 @ Ultra with resolution scaling at 100% (vsync 60 FPS/never dips below)

2 out of 5 eggsBuyer be warned...

Pros: It does what's needed to be done....after struggling to get it to work right. More on this below.

Cons: Boy do I have things to talk about. First off if you're interested in getting this board you're better off getting an asus board or something that's not asrock because troubleshooting this board was starting to give me headaches. I booted for the first time and bam bsod right off the bat at the windows loading screen...I restarted several times and tried to isolate the issue since I had new memory and a new cpu installed as well. Finally gave up and decided to search the internet on my laptop and found that this mobo, by default, will have the sata mode set to AHCI instead of IDE, which was why I got those bsod and couldn't load windows. The second scare came as I finally finished installing the drivers loaded onto the cd that came with the mobo (after an hour) and when I restarted the computer and not only could i not load windows I was caught in a loop that brought me to this Nero Boot-Loader thing that was asking if I wanted to do something to my hard disk drive that would delete all the data on it. Thankfully the solution to this was simple: simply remove the cd from the cd drive and that endless nightmare went away.

Other Thoughts: Honestly if it weren't for those two things mentioned above I would've given this more eggs but at least newegg was fast to deliver.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear ASRock Customer

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you.
For the SATA mode, most of current mainboards are set SATA mode as AHCI by default, due to IDE mode is not widely used on nowadays PC.
However, there's recommend to install fresh Windows (backup the data first), if the hardware configuration has changed (especially mainboard).
For the boot issue, please set boot option #1 to Windows drive.
Eject the mainboard’s driver CD (bootable CD disc) to avoid boot from the disc (if boot option has set to ODD).

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Motherboard

Pros: Just a great motherboard. Easy to use BIOS, supports overclocking and higher memory rating. Goes perfectly with my I5-3570K. Plenty of ports for everything I need.

I had this motherboard for nearly three years but then accidentally messed up the CPU socket during some maintenance one day and it was beyond my repair. Rather than upgrading I chose to order this exact motherboard again and have no regretted it; I've had the new one for only a week now though, so I hope to continue not having problems.

Cons: No cons that I can think of.

5 out of 5 eggsAsRock Z77 Extreme4 LGA 1155

Pros: Really worthy. Without adjusting anything on the bios Windows 8 starts in like 6 seconds from the power switch. My system is the Intel Core i5-3470 3.2 GHz and 8 MB ram along with an SSD and a dedicated card. I have no problems at all with this motherboard.

Cons: Are you serious? For the price?
Maybe that it does not have too many case fans connectors but you can work around that.

Other Thoughts: I am happy that I did not spent a lot of money on another motherboard. Also I noticed that my RAM does not show the total amount in Windows. What it shows is 7.89 usable RAM. I think that is because this kind motherboard takes RAM for the Intel integrated graphics on processors.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat for its price

Pros: It has a good number of USB ports, though not all of them are 3.0. Has both VGA and HDMI ports. I honestly haven't had any issues with it since installation, other than the two noted below.

Cons: Some of my games had trouble launching, and I had to disable some of the software which came with the drive. Also, you will need a separate sound card, since the on-board sound picks up feedback from other activity on the motherboard.

Other Thoughts: Definitely a safe buy, and worth the money. Especially if it's on sale.

3 out of 5 eggsGood for a while

Pros: Excellent Layout.
Great Features.
Good price point for all you get.

Cons: - Customer Service.
On Board NIC blew out in a a storm. Replaced the NIC out of pocket with a PCI-e card worked well for about another month but then board went out for no reason. Sent to RMA in Chino where they promptly lost it and tried to tell me they never got it until I provided a tracking number with the person at the facility who signed for its signature.

I was THEN told that they misplaced it and they would have to search the "whole warehouse" to find it like it was a huge burden (because I lost the package... Right?) I then did not hear anything back from them for another week so I called them and the girl on the phone had no idea what I was talking about (it was the same girl I had originally talked to). After about 10 more minute of being on the phone with her I think ASRock just gave up and said screw it and sent me a referb board.

THAT board has been working for about 6 months with no problems though. Just a shame I had to go through all that to get a warranty replacement/repair.

Other Thoughts: For the price I would still buy this board again. The warranty RMA stuff sucked but the board has been pretty solid and has good features.

2 out of 5 eggsUgh...terrible board

Pros: Not sure. If I can get it to function properly then we could see...

Cons: I've RMA'ed this board once before (DOA) when first purchased in May to put in a new rig. Here it is, August, and now I'm going to have to RMA it again because the graphics will not respond. I am frustrated and seriously don't have the patience to deal with this board any further. I need things I pay money for to WORK. I really DON'T have time for this. This is counterproductive and frustrating. For a board to be this flighty is insane in 2014. Good thing I kept my OLD rig or else I'd be up the creek - no paddle. This board is very sickly and I really wouldn't suggest buying it unless you love wasting your time and money.

Other Thoughts: Newegg - take this board OFF the "shelves". There are WAAAAY too many complaints about it and the complaints are only rising. This board is trash. And on top of that, I'm probably going to have to pay to get this board RMA'ed - AGAIN. SMH. Don't buy it - go with Gigabyte or something...

Manufacturer Response:

Dear ASRock Customer

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you.
Please trouble shoot the mainboard whether the issue is resolved.
Unplug the ATX power, remove all components from mainboard.
Clear the CMOS.
Reinstall CPU and cooler.
Test with single memory module.
Test with onboard VGA (CPU with iGPU/APU supported or test with VGA card).
Plug the 24 + 8 or 4 pins ATX power back.
Turn the power on (using onboard power button) to check if its post.

2 out of 5 eggsfine when it's not dead

Pros: Easy to configure. When it works at all, it works fine.

Cons: Dies after about a year. I've RMA'd this board twice already, and now it's dead again. Look elsewhere for a quality motherboard because this one isn't it. ASRock seems to have some significant QA problems.

I'm not over clocking or running anything unusual. Just some light gaming. A motherboard should last longer than one year.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear ASRock Customer

Sorry to hear that the second mainboard has malfunctioned again and this is very rare.
