1 out of 5 eggsLooking to Buy

Pros: None

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Every year I build a new computer and replace the oldest one. I’ve done this for the last 14 or 15 years. I have always bought ASUS motherboards they were the best. This year I am troubled after reading the reviews on the ASUS MAXIMUS VI HERO arguably their flagship motherboard. From the reviews, I have about a 25% chance of receiving a defective motherboard. Reading further many of these people are on their third board or more which ups the odds considerably to perhaps a one in three chance of a defective motherboard. I have to say these odds are not encouraging. ASUS in the past was always a quality product. I have to wonder did they find it cheaper to fire the quality control department and let the consumer do it. Really, ASUS get it back together and sell a quality product not just cheap junk.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Don,

We want to thank you for posting this review and we understand your concern regarding receiving a defective motherboard. It's unfortunate if you think the "Product" is a huge disappointment. On the contrary, there are lots of very satisfied customers that are having positive experience using the product. If you decide to purchase one and you have problem with it please email me at customerloyalty@asus.com and put case # N1501101725 in the subect line for your reference.

3 out of 5 eggsDecent Board

Pros: Great extras. Cool lighting!

Cons: Finicky! Hair ripping install.

Other Thoughts: When I first added this to my build, it took me two whole days working on it night and day (literally) to debug the whole board. Plus when I got the board it didn't come with the CLRTC Jumper. Luckily a friend was replacing his board too and had an extra one and I managed to get it up and running. All in all, once you debug the various issues at first, it's a decent board and definitely looks cool!

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Impaler,

In behalf of ASUS I want to thank you for posting this review online. It's good to get a positive review from our customer. I understand that you had a little problem with instaling some drivers in the unit. May ask if after the installation or setting up the unit did you have any issue? Did the unit run slow? For further assistance please email me at customerloyalty@asus.com and put case # N1501105951 in the subject line for your reference.

5 out of 5 eggsgreat board. no issues so far.

Pros: This is my first build so take that for what it's worth. Anyway, I was pleased with how it looked and impressed at the weight. The install of all my components were a breeze and made it very easy for a beginner to put together. The BIOS set up in the EZ mode made my life so easy but also allows me to go back in and tweak for performance as i gain more knowledge. I have really enjoyed some of the software it came with as well. Sound radar is fun to mess with, and AI suite III makes monitoring Temps and power usage very easy and kind of fun to be honest.

Cons: The only problem I had with the install was the the IOS shield was very thick and I had to really push on the board to made the screw holes align correctly during the install. I was afraid of damaging the components but everything worked out just peachy. Also, AI suite III doesn't detect my chassis fans. I don't know if this is a problem with my board or my own wiring mistake but either way they work just fine and I can control them externally. Not breaking and egg for either because I've been running for a while with no hiccups. would recommend.

1 out of 5 eggsTerrible board

Pros: Been using ASUS for years, good reputation.

Cons: Bought this board--always trust and use ASUS. I've yet to get the onboard Ethernet working. Install an update and it dies. Get it working, reboot, it dies. Several calls into ASUS and the answer is the same just re-install the drivers--which rarely works. THen I"m told to reformat my disk and reinstall the OS, that worked then the Enternet quit again, then they told me to buy another copy of my OS, huh? Really? They they told me it's a Microsoft problem. Then they told me to use an older driver due to hardware/drier issues. Either this board is junk or i just have a bad one.Ethernet now works--i guess i just need to reboot like 10 time to get it to come on....

1 out of 5 eggsThe comcast of motherboard manufacturers

Pros: None.

Cons: Came DOA. I purchased it way past newegg 30 day policy didn't use until months later when I had the money to finish the build. Created an ASUS case been a week still haven't been contacted. All I have is a case number. Tried their live chat service, says "leave a message" with no option to leave message.

Other Thoughts: I've been an asus supporter for years. Will no longer purchase another asus product.

4 out of 5 eggsQA needs help

Pros: Looks Great
Highly Configurable

Cons: Extreme Engine Digi+ III heatsinks get in the way of installing cpu heatsink.
Bent pins on 1150 socket
DVD with drivers broken, scratched?

Other Thoughts: So, I get this motherboard and very carefully open the 1150 and remove the plastic cover, I install my 4790K extremely carefully, dead on, didn't need to shift it or anything, close it up. Throw thermal paste on, install my heat sink, proceed to install motherboard onto case, route all my wires, etc.

The only hitch so far is the one hex nut I need to install near the Digi IiI heatsinks. It's a bit tight but I'm able to get the nut on. Great!

Power the system on and lo and behold error code 55... What the heck? Error 55 says: Memory is not installed. Hmm my RAM is installed (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231757) I reseat the RAM about 100 times.

Finally give up and look it up on the web. Turns out error 55 could be cause by a bent pin! So, I take the heatsink off, clean the paste off it and open the socket, remove the cpu and of course there is a bent pin. I very carefully used a tiny flat head screwdriver to coerce the pin back in place. These pins are crazy tiny and you can barely see what your doing. So please be careful if this happens to you.

Putting the heatsink back on once the mother board was in the case proved to be EXTREMELY difficult. The built in heatsinks just don't give enough room. However, I finally was able to get the heatsink on and the system is up and running.

Now, I am very very sure that I didn't bend that pin. The only way that could have been me was if I dropped something in the socket before placing the CPU or placed the CPU in at an angle or something, I know I did not do any of this. So, I am disappointed that the pin was bent.

To top everything off, the DVD that was included was scratched or just plain bad, the reader would not read the DVD, even after trying on multiple systems.

Overall, I'm still happy with the product, hence the 4 stars, but I feel there should have been a QA step that would have caught the bent pin...

Cheers

2 out of 5 eggsNot a good board.

Pros: When it worked, it worked.

Cons: Built a gaming rig around this board but around 3 months after assembly the machine was unable to keep time. Not long after that I started experiencing random blue screens then power-up failures(computer would only start by using the boot switch on the motherboard). The board finally stopped posting a year and a half after purchase.

I've spent countless hours trouble shooting on this thing including replacing the battery multiple times, and switching the hardware around it(power supply and RAM) to no avail. It is just a poorly built board and I would not recommend it if you are looking for any kind of longevity or reliability.

Other Thoughts: I have always bought ASUS video cards and motherboards but after this experience I think I will be looking elsewhere.

Manufacturer Response:

5 out of 5 eggsAmazing Board

Pros: Great board, very powerful, has everything you'd want. If you want a really powerful rig and don't want to spend over $200 for the motherboard, this is the one to get.

Cons: None.

3 out of 5 eggsasus rma sucks

Pros: overall good board, fast when gaming.

Cons: 1st pcie slot died on me,got a rma number from asus and they told me it was covered by warranty,so i spent $45 for shipping.now they claim i have 2 scratches that i apparently made which avoid warranty, they ask me $150 + taxes for a new board, there was no scratches when i sent the board,i doubled checked it and there was no scratches.i'm in electrincs trade since 1982 so i'm not a noob.

Other Thoughts: i transmitted them satisfaction level and if they dont wanna cover the board i'll just go get another one (MSI,GIGABYTE.....).i was a asus faithful buyer for almost 20 years but just that one incident was enough for me.
