2 out of 5 eggsGreat motherboard, sound popping issue

Pros: The motherboard has a beautiful UEFI. Overclocking is a breeze. Very stable as well.

Cons: The knocking this motherboard down eggs specifically because of the issue with the onboard sound. It's atrocious. After having the system running for awhile there begins to be a cracking / popping to sound playback. The issue has not been alleviated with updated drivers and ive pretty much decided that it's just a faulty product. Reports of this issue are rampant and asus has done nothing to resolve the issue.

4 out of 5 eggsGood board for the money.

Pros: Love the color scheme of ROG products. Good feature set. UEFI Bios is very user-friendly and easy to use.

Cons: Bent USB 3.0 header on the board however that may have been my doing. Not too big of a deal though.

1 out of 5 eggs8 Months in: Onboard NIC died, AWFUL customer service

Pros: The board lasted 8 months before something went wrong....

Cons: So, at the 8 month mark this board's onboard network card died on me. I would not consider that to be such a bad thing, but the customer support this far has been awful. The first person (after a nearly half hour wait) seemed like they knew what they were doing, but after I finished giving them all the information they needed they failed to send me the necessary form for the advanced RMA that I asked for. A week later, I get onto their chat system to check the status, only to have the support rep close the session without typing a single word to me. I tried again, and the person told me what had happened with my RMA, but could not actually help. So after another half hour phone wait I get another person who actually sends me the docs I need. I just sent off the forms so the story isn't over, but I can tell you right now that ASUS is not a company you want to deal with if anything goes wrong.

Other Thoughts: It's nice to know that ASUS does indeed honor their warranty, and even offers free advanced RMA service. However, they make it so painful to get that service that I'd rather try someone else next time. A+ for style, F for effort.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello Jeremy,

I am sorry to hear that you had issues with our customer support as well as your motherboard sir. I will be happy to assist you with your current RMA if you have any further issues. When contacting me, so that I may look into your case further, please provide me with your RMA number. Please include your reference number below within the subject line. In addition, please provide me with what troubleshooting steps you had tried, as well as the rest of the systems hardware configuration. Thank you!Cs#N140953095

5 out of 5 eggsStill happy 6 months in

Pros: Quality (so far!)
Good audio
Ease of install
Good drivers
Good overclocking software/bios

Cons: Super-hyped audio is pretty much the same as everyone else's Realtek; some fancier drivers are the main difference.

Other Thoughts: This has been, thus far, a problem free motherboard. The layout is quite nice, and the components (and included cables) are top-notch. I'm hoping the motherboard will continue to perform this highly for years to come.

2 out of 5 eggsBoot loop

Pros: None, constant boot loop. Uhug--RMA time. Using approved processor and memory with no love. Updated bios using flashback method and still no love after removing battery and waiting.

Cons: Received non-functional so had no choice but to RMA.

Other Thoughts: Purchased a Gigabyte product which booted up fine with no issues so far. C'mon Asus where's your quality control?

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Puss N Boots,

I do apologize that you experienced issues with your motherboard. If you would like to discuss this case further, please contact me through email and include your reference number within the subject line. 5 out of 5 eggsexcellent motherboard and nice feature.

Pros: I own it over a year + for main gaming. My first batch motherboard current C0 step when it came out. I dunno but have no problem so far. I didn't see if anything strange about it even I am aware about C0 step have some sort bug. I already upgrade 4790k from 4670k due poor overclock because terrible TIM CPU of 4670k.

Cons: none at the moment I see any bug with C0 step. If you plan to get 4790k cpu then do not ! flash BIOS through USB BIOS and BIOS menus will not able boot 4790k. It only way to work with 4790k by use old cpu like 4770k or lower (old haswell) then update BIOS through Asus BIOS program inside Windows OS before able use 4790k cpu.

Other Thoughts: not much and almost RMA new intel 4790k cpu but decide wait and google around about problem fail boot 4790k. It only work by through Asus BIOS programs inside Windows OS with old cpu if intend to use 4790k cpu.

For now, just go with z97 motherboard if you want 4790k cpu plus will work with any haswell cpu.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Mobo

Pros: Incredible motherboard for a good price. Bios are well thought out. Utilities that come with the board work well. I have the AI Suite 3 installed which allows you to custom control fan speeds, overclocks, etc. through the software. Mobo. looks great in the case, the red led "circuit lighting" around the sound card module add extra spice.

Cons: This is the z87 chipset, so there is a possibility that this board wont support the new Broadwell intel chips when they are released. Also, I had to install my thermalright ib-e extreme fans in a pull pull config to leave room for the memory. Not worth pulling an egg since that cooler is way over-sized.

Other Thoughts: I was able to post with the i5-4690k installed. But, you do need to update your bios to the latest once windows is installed. Also, be sure to enable XMP in the bios to get the best performance out of your memory modules.

1 out of 5 eggsStinks
