5 out of 5 eggsGreat board!

Pros: This is an awesome board to buy if youre looking for a gaming rig, i just put this in my new pc and i wont regret it. ASUS might have earned a new loyal customer! as many people have pointed out there are 8 sata connections and thats hard to beat for the price

Cons: none

5 out of 5 eggsIn spite of the first one having issues...

Pros: It has the right name Asus.
I was bought in the right place Newegg.
It is extremely well laid-out.
The manual is well-written.
The red lights make it go faster (years of Trek taught me Red = Faster, Blue = runs cooler.)
It has every bell and whistle I wanted - including a super user-friendly BIOS that will let me tweak to my heart's content as well as some great software to let me control my fans etc or OC or just about anything I want.
ASUS has terrific quality control. This is the FIRST board in 2 decades from ASUS that failed. Even then it probably was damaged in shipping. I've never had a DOA.
LOVE the coupling they give you to plug all of the case single and dual pin connections into. My eyes aren't what they used to be. MUCH easier than plugging them into the mobo directly.
Did I mention the pretty red lights?
The board LOOKS AMAZING.
My cases all have big plexi side. This one rocks.

Cons: The first one showed the "Not found memory error" whichever one that was. I checked online and found there can be an issue of you have installed your CPU cooler in such a way that it bridges some connections near the RAM slots. Mine is stock so not the issue. I checked and found that the CPU pins were horribly bent in a few places. I NEVER try to "correct" that since the placement is super critical. Instead I RMA'd the board and got a full refund.

Other Thoughts: Newegg has been great. My ONLY complaint is...instead of asking for a replacement board on the RMA I asked to get a refund. The board was on sale when I bought it. The problem? Because of time constraints I couldn't wait for the RMA to ship me a new board so I ordered another one (which works great). Now I am OUT the difference in the sale price vs the full price I paid. IT SUCKS. If there is any way to recoup this I would appreciate it. But I realize a sale is a sale. And the new board works great. And they did refund the full sale price. Looking back I SHOULD have asked for a replacement board (I forgot about the sale) so I'd have a new board at that sale price. It's a great board and I plan on buying another on in a year or so to build my next PC for my son. If fact, I plan on using this board to rebuild all three gaming PCs in the house. So. If Newegg is reading this, if it's not too late to get another board instead of a refund...- or refund me the non-sale price ...let me know. LOL. Short of that, they've been great - even helping me out with shipping costs on the AWFUL board from another manufacturer who will be unnamed. Thanks Newegg support. Kudos.

5 out of 5 eggsImpressive

Pros: - Cheap ($130 after MIB at time of this post).
- Supports Devils Canyon
- 8 SATA ports
- Solid build quality
- Nice ROG LED effects built-in.

Cons: - Can't do 3-way SLI/XFire
- Doesn't have many fan headers

Other Thoughts: Bought this and a 4690K as a replacement for my i7 920 and Sabertooth x58. I have been nothing but impressed with this upgrade. This is a great deal if you are looking to upgrade.

5 out of 5 eggsWonderful product overall!

Pros: Met expectations
Looks cool
Does what is advertised
Plenty of features to satisfy my needs
Asus
Runs very cool
Great bang for your buck

Cons: Definitely lacking a few features
Not much else

Other Thoughts: This is my first computer build, and I bought this wanting as many features as possible, while still keeping it affordable. That is exactly how Asus advertised this product and I am very satisfied with it! It's definitely lacking a few things, but that's expected given the price. For instance I would have liked a few more USB ports on the back, but that's not much to complain about. I'm okay with only having the option of two GPUs in SLI or Crossfire, but gaming isn't my priority, video editing and rendering is. With that said, the overclocking abilities are fantastic! There are things here for professional overclockers to play around with. I would have to say that this is a perfect test bench motherboard for overclocking. I have had it for over a month now, and I've played around with the BIOS and other features on a dozen of occasions. There is more to play around with than I was even expecting, the BIOS is wonderful. UEFI for the win for sure. Not much else to say about this since the motherboard isn't a factor of performance so there's nothing to review in terms of that. Either way, it looks very sleek and professional, I have a big window on my case and I must say, it is EYE CANDY. That is all I really had to say about it. I'm giving 5 stars because I got exactly what I was expecting, and I got exactly what I paid for, if not more.

1 out of 5 eggs4790K not compatible

Pros: It works fine assuming the system will boot.

Cons: If you plan on using a 4790k, do not buy this motherboard. Newegg lists the two as compatible, but there is a chance that the motherboard will not recognize the CPU even with the latest BIOS, and you'll be stuck with a system that won't boot. USB flashback will not fix the problem. You have to be able to enter the OS or make use of a USB BIOS programmer in order to install the necessary chipset drivers.

5 out of 5 eggsWorking great

Pros: Has been and is working as expected.

Cons: It's been almost a year, but I recall some issues during install. There was a lot of trouble booting in the OS.

Other Thoughts: Per the install issues, I'm relatively new to building my own system. This is the 2nd motherboard installation I've done and although most components this upgrade season of mine were new (meaning 9 months ago), the hard drives were not. I was expecting some issues on that front and I know it took me awhile to troubleshoot some issues on my first build as well. For me, the few hours of troubleshooting were par for the course.

I should also mention that although I haven't had any issues, I really haven't yet taken advantage of several of the features this board offers. All I can say is that I haven't had a single crash or even any noticeable lag.

1 out of 5 eggsLooking to Buy

Pros: None

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Every year I build a new computer and replace the oldest one. I’ve done this for the last 14 or 15 years. I have always bought ASUS motherboards they were the best. This year I am troubled after reading the reviews on the ASUS MAXIMUS VI HERO arguably their flagship motherboard. From the reviews, I have about a 25% chance of receiving a defective motherboard. Reading further many of these people are on their third board or more which ups the odds considerably to perhaps a one in three chance of a defective motherboard. I have to say these odds are not encouraging. ASUS in the past was always a quality product. I have to wonder did they find it cheaper to fire the quality control department and let the consumer do it. Really, ASUS get it back together and sell a quality product not just cheap junk.
