5 out of 5 eggsreview

Pros: all the bells and whistles I was looking for and a good price.

Cons: doesn't have the gamer priority like the newer version does but I knew that before buying and from what I've seen of that feature it doesn't make all that noticeable of a difference.

Other Thoughts: color scheme coulda been better

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Board with a little help

Pros: Extremely fast and solid.

Cons: As stated by Eric S. the motherboard USB 3 slots don't overly care for Keyboard and Mice, I simply grabbed a USB2 Backplate from an earlier board plugged it into the connectors at the bottom of the board.

I have not had an issue with the board since.

Other Thoughts: I would have liked some notification by Asus or Newegg that a new generation was going to be releases 60 days after the x87 were released.

3 out of 5 eggsDied in less than a year.

Pros: Fast, good gaming motherboard (overclocking)
Wifi

Cons: Died within the first year. Hmmm.

Other Thoughts: I got this, even though it was really expensive, because it had the built in wifi. People said that it was a really good motherboard, which when it was working it was pretty good.
But it died within the first year.
It burned out my processor, PSU, and hard drive in the process!

I kind of assumed i got a lemon.
So, despite the fact that it died like that, I'm still giving it a 3 star, because it was a good motherboard, and the wifi was great.

But I am really mad that it died. Because it was so expensive.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

I am sorry to hear that you had problems with your motherboard. Did you happen to RMA it already? If not, please let me know and I will be happy to assist you with setting up an RMA so that I may look into your case further. Please include your reference number within the subject line. In addition, please provide me with what troubleshooting steps you have tried, as well as the rest of the systems hardware configuration. Thank you!Cs# N140934971

1 out of 5 eggsWifi does not work, Poor ASUS support

Pros: Although expensive, I bought it for the inbuilt Bt 4.0 and WIFI b/g/n Wifi-Go feature (never worked).

Cons: oor ASUS support. Wifi on board never worked.
I have sent my mother board to ASUS for same wifi problem twice. There is no notes from ASUS repair dept about what was wrong, what has been repaired.
I have spent several hours in
1. trouble shooting,
2. re-installing OS
3. re-installing Drivers ( all 3 versions of wifi drivers on ASUS site, drivers link sent by asus support, drivers on the disk came with MB).
3. Waiting in ASUS support like queue, 4. Trouble shooting as directed by ASUS support over phone.
I still have same problem, every single time ASUS support concluded this is hardware issue.
Finally they sent me a WIFI go module to replace the old one, even after replacing wifi module, I am getting same issue.

Please read the reviews from Kenneth B, Tyson M. also about WIFI issues.
I wish I found these reviews on this ASUS Z-87 pro mother board before I bought it. On board BT 4.0 and Wifi is main reason I bought this board for my PC build.

Other Thoughts: OS: Windows 7 Ultimate
Problem: The Windows system tray shows Wifi icon with warnning sign, then the warnning sign will go away in about 10-30 seconds. I am able ping router, google.com
but the results are not consistant ( some times they timeout, some time not reachble, some time long delay followed by timeout), so far no luck getting even single webpage open from any browser, not even the router admin page

Note: I disabled windows firewall, there is not antivirus installed yes. I am able to reach internet when I connect cable.
I also tried changing dns server to 8.8.8.8. I able to connect to inter net using Belkin WIFI. I am still not able to connect to internet using onboard WIFI.

1 out of 5 eggsFeeling Ripped Off!

Pros: A nice Board with with 4 - 3.0 USB ports and 4 - 2.0 USB ports. It also includes Bluetooth and wireless WiFi. (When it works)

Cons: The Wireless WiFi on this board has had problems from almost the beginning. I didn't know it was the board until recently after coming across another complaint similar to mine and finding that someone found it to be his mother board, the one I have, This One! The Internet constantly disconnects intermittently several times a day, every day and it has gotten to the point that I have finally gone ahead and disabled the Wireless adapter and installed my own wireless adapter and since then have had no disconnects! Tried contacting the company today and asking them for a refund for the board as I wanted to just get another one as I don't like the idea of spending $200 on something that should have worked the way it was expected. Instead, I was told that because the Antennae was most likely the cause of my problem, that they would not be able to do anything for me because it is considered an accessory and not covered under any warranty! I informed them I didn't even want to replace it anyway, I just wanted my money back or a credit towards an upgrade to the new model. Still no help! I will never again trust this company with my money! If they won't stand behind their product then I won't buy it!

Other Thoughts: I tried everything before I found out it this board. I had my Internet company come out and check my lines. I replaced my modem and Router twice, buying all new equipment both times! I even went ahead and reformatted my computer and did a fresh re-install of windows twice! Finally, I tried downloading the updates for my motherboard from Asus's website and still I had no luck.

What really gets me, is that there are a lot of complaints that I have found for Asus's Wireless WiFi on that Motherboard. There seems to be enough that in my opinion that Asus should have noticed by now that there seems to be a problem with their WiFi, but then again, they don't care because they don't warranty that part!

4 out of 5 eggsGood...bit overboard

Pros: Runs great, compatible, lots of ports and slots available, extra software, easily upgraded for BIOS, RAM, etc

Cons: Has a lot of bloatware that can pop up and is hard to get rid of

Other Thoughts: This is a great Motherboard. Asus always does good work in my opinion. I have some issues with how much extra software is involved, and had some initial driver issues, but the board works great now and I haven't had any true issues. The software is great if you really want to monitor every aspect of your computer, but I never got the EZ Update to work and I ended up uninstalling as much of it as possible. I really liked the fan and temperature monitoring software though.

As a motherboard, this is a great one if you are getting a new Haswell chip and you want everything without paying too much.

2 out of 5 eggsOnly 6 Usable SATA Ports

Pros: Overclocks well. Seems to be running stable with an overclock. Tons of features available in the BIOS.

Cons: I had two boards die on me within 30 days. The third one seems to be playing nicely with me, but I discovered a major con a little too late. When the ASMedia ASM1061 storage controller is enabled, my system suffers from a major lag/stutter issue -- to the point where my computer becomes unusable; the ASMedia storage controller is enabled by default. I've update the BIOS twice since I've owned this motherboard (bios revision 1802, 2003 and 2005), and the issue remains. The only way around the problem is to disable the ASMedia storage controller, but of course it leaves you with only 6 SATA ports (versus the 8 you would normally get by updating to a Z87 motherboard). I've unplugged all PCI-E devices, except for my 280X, hoping it might just be a PCI-E lane issue, but no change. I've emailed ASUS on the issue, and hopefully it might get resolved before the Z87 chipset gets ignored and becomes a thing of the past.

Other Thoughts: Aside from the two duds I received, I like ASUS. I'd be willing to give them another try on a future upgrade, given they actually provide BIOS updates for their previous boards.
