4 out of 5 eggsGreat Sandy/Ivy Bridge mini ITX MoBo for the price!

Pros: - great price;
- good features for its time.

Cons: - Missing USB 3.0 front panel header...has 2 USB 2.0 headers, instead;
- only 2 4-pin fan headers.

2 out of 5 eggsOne of the last remaining mITX LGA 1155 Motherboards

Pros: - Still available new at a reasonable price
- mITX board

Cons: - No overclocking capability
- Lackluster ram support (even at the board's supported speeds)
- Consistent USB interface dropouts at boot (making it hard to entire the BIOS reliably)

Other Thoughts: I bought this board to transition my full-sized ATX system to a mITX form factor five years after I built the original system. While my system is now much, much, much, much more compact, I have lost the ability to overclock my i5-2500k (removing its competitiveness) and USB devices work questionably for the first few minutes after booting into Windows. The UEFI bios is nice, buts its effects are mostly lost on me because it does not allow overclocking (you can downclock the chip), and knowing that you're inputting something correctly is difficult when the USB devices drop in and out.

From my experience, I would recommend spending extra to upgrade to a newer platform (skylake perhaps?) so you can choose a motherboard that is popular because of its compatibility and stability (BIOS updates forthcoming), instead of choosing this motherboard because you have no other choice.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

Thank you for taking the time to post your experience with your ASUS product. Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience this experience may have caused. Are you using manual overclock or auto overclocking for your CPU? What happens when you manually configure your CPU core ratio? Be careful not to go overboard with your CPU core/cache voltage, there is a possibility that if the voltage is increased to high, it can cause the VRM to short circuit. Also, if you haven't already please make sure to set up your chassis fans to allow smooth direct air flow with cold air taking in and hot air exhausting out in order to raise the heat threshold and to prevent your VRM and other hardware from overheating. In regards to your USB issues, please make sure to download and install the latest Asmedia USB 3.0 Driver Version 1.16.13.0 (WHQL). You can locate your motherboard's latest system drivers at our ASUS Online Help Desk: https://www.asus.com/us/Motherboards/P8H61I_R20/HelpDesk_Download/. If you have any technical questions or general inquiries you can contact me at cl-nestor@asus.com.

Thank you for choosing ASUS!

1 out of 5 eggsAbsolute Piece of Garbage!

Pros: -Nothing!

Cons: -One memory slot didn't even work out of the box!
-Windows constantly shut down (all other components are new)
-Only 2 ram slots
-No 6 channel audio
-No USB 3.0 header on board
-No Sata 3!

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued ASUS Customer,

Thank you for taking the time to write this informative review. We appreciate your feedback on this matter and I will be letting the related department know about the issues you are experiencing for continuous improvements to ASUS products. Is your CPU, memory, and power supply all in the qualified vendor list? After you have verified your parts, please double check each cable on the motherboard including your 24/8 power plug connectors. Please make sure your GPU connectors are firmly installed and that all your SATA drives are receiving power from your PSU. Make sure the motherboard is properly grounded and test all your hardware before putting it in your chassis. If you still can't get your system to POST, Please install 1-DIMM kit to check for POST then proceed with a Firmware update. If you need help please contact me directly at cl-nestor@asus.com.

Thank you for choosing ASUS!

Best Regards,

4 out of 5 eggsAll around a good board

Pros: Seem to work just fine for my build.

Cons: just pay attention to home much space you have around the CPU and where the CPU power, SATA ports, and ram slots are. In my build my CPU cooler was a little big for this board causing it to hang over the CPU power connector which made it difficult to plug in the SATA ports are toward the top of the board in stead of at the bottom like my other boards in the past my cables almost didn't reach. if your using a larger fan install your memory first.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks great

Pros: BIOS is easily configured with clearly labeled options.
Compact and powerful.

Cons: Not that many fan headers.

Other Thoughts: I bought this motherboard for my partner's first PC build. Despite being new to the world of computer building, they were able to easily figure out the motherboard settings.

The built in profiles worked without issue, would definitely recommend to those who are looking for a small, yet competent motherboard.

5 out of 5 eggsSaved my old cpu

Pros: My 2600k mobo pooped out after almost 5 years. I decided to upgrade to the 6700k. This mobo helped me start a Mini-ITX build for my tv room. For the price and the fact that it was still available after 4 years makes this mobo a life saver.

Cons: Doesnt have alot of stuff you can get from newer ITX's but this mobo did the trick for me.

3 out of 5 eggsNewegg, Newegg, Newegg.. Oh how I miss thee

Pros: This motherboard seems to have all of the main things I'm looking for... a LGA 1155 socket and... a LGA 1155 socket. Esp in Q4 of 2015, this may be your only option.

Cons: RMA. obviously not an issue with the manufacturer. But so far, It has taken nearly 2 full weeks to RMA this motherboard. Newegg is notorious for bad customer service and has lost me as a once long-time customer.
Thank goodness the only other giant internet retailer with a certain guaranteed two day ship date knows how to treat customers.

5 out of 5 eggsits ASUS, nuff said

Pros: Good solid board for something so small. Was purchased to replace another brand that failed out of the box. Great tech support from ASUS when I had an issue. works works works. fits in my custom install. Running completely fanless, BIOS is easy to work with and understand. once setup it boots incredibly fast. SAndy Bridge and Ivy Bridge support without updating the BIOS.

Cons: Big miss is its SATA2 connection, should have SATA3, and no usb 3.0 header on the board. Not the end of te world since its a custom build...also dont like the fact that there are only four sata connections instead of 6, more is better.

Other Thoughts: Ive yet to have an ASUS product fail me and so for they are keeping up the good work, even in such a space constrained board. no wireless or BT installed. The system is as follows,
This motherboard
16gig corsair CMS3
128gig Plextor M6e boot drive m.2 format
2 500gig samsung ssd m.s format
500 watt flex atx power supply
intel i7 2600k processor
Zalman fx70 fanless heatsink
LG Blu Ray burner
LG Lightscribe DVD burner.
Due to space constraints the optical drives are in an external esata 2 bay tower.

1 out of 5 eggsPoor Layout

Pros: Unknown since cannot build without causing short on system.

Cons: CPU cooler layout terrible. The transistors on the bottom of the board interfere with proper mounting of the CPU cooler bracket. The brackets for 3 different coolers sit on top of the transistors and solder points for 2 of the holes. This leaves the bracket loose and unstable.

Other Thoughts: Being my first Mini ITX build this could be me, but I have tried 3 different coolers including a liquid cooler that will not mount properly. If there is a special cooler that will work it should be in BIG TEXT in the product description.
