Pros: looks nice

Cons: Fried 3 drives, 2 PSUs, and 1 GPU. Confirmed by replacing with Asus Maximus Formula motherboard. What a terrible product.

Pros: It's very pretty to look at and seems very well made. The ports are all well labeled (on the MB itself and on the rear facing ports). The bios is comprehensive and informative.

Cons: The ports on the motherboard seemed to be strangely placed in contrast with other boards, causing me to have some cable length issues. The bios is very cluttered.

Other Thoughts: I have had no real problems on this board at all. It runs in a full size ATX tower almost all day and sees heavy use throughout the week. I am very satisfied.

1 out of 5 eggsAvoid - USB problems, BIOS Update Bricked

Pros: I got this on a deal with a free stick of RAM. It was to be used for a budget build for office work, writing and running code.

I've purchased a lot of MSI products in the past and have been generally happy. In theory, this looks like a great board. Loads of USB ports, SoundBlaster Audio, and it even has a slot on the motherboard itself for an mSATA SSD. Unfortunately the board is plagued by a host of other problems, so it is difficult to recommend.

Cons: From the beginning this mobo was frustrating. I always install using a USB drive since it is much faster than a DVD and doesn't require the purchase of a DVD drive. After setting up a USB to install from, I booted to the BIOS to specify where to boot from. The USB drive was not detected in the BIOS menu. I continued anyways despite this red flag, specifying to boot from USB and hoping it would detect it on restart. Long story short, I tried every single USB port using three different USB drives I had on hand. Nothing worked. I ended up installing an internal DVD drive from another desktop, burning a disc to install from, and doing it the old fashioned way.

With the OS installed, I proceeded to install drivers, programs, and get settled in. Most things were alright, but I noticed that when I plugged my USB2.0 external HDD into any of the USB3.0 ports, it wouldn't work. Similarly, the USB3.0 ports on the front would not always recognize my flash drives. On another occasion, a webcam randomly quit working. That is: I used it the previous night, turned off the computer, turned on the computer the next day, and went to use the webcam to find that it was not detected. After fiddling with unplugging, restarting, reinstalling, etc. I gave up.

With all of these problems with USB, I knew I needed a fix. Unfortunately, this was past the return window at Newegg, so I consulted MSI's help forums for users with similar problems. The recommendations were consistent: update the USB drivers first, and if that doesn't work update the BIOS. The USB drivers were up to date, so I decided to update the BIOS. This is something you should generally avoid if things are working, and should exercise extreme caution doing if it comes to it. You should also avoid updating using the Windows Utility as well, as it can cause problems. Ironically, this leaves the option of installing from USB.

I borrowed flash drives from friends until I found one that was recognized. I put the appropriate files on it, booted to BIOS, and followed the instructions to update. I left the room while it ran and came back to a black screen and my computer starting up for a second and then shutting down before anything came up. Uh oh. This continued for awhile. Eventually I shut the computer down and reset the CMOS following the manual instructions. When I went to start up again: nothing! It's bricked.

I've submitted an RMA, but I am very disappointed by this. Something as fundamental as USB should just work. Moreover, the fact that I had to pay the shipping costs to return this product, and will also have to buy new thermal paste is insulting. At this point I just hope that none of the other components are damaged and that the replacement won't have these problems. I also hope that this review will help users avoid a similar fate.

Pros: Overall seems to be a pretty good board. Nice GUI bios.

Cons: Ordered this board I think the last day Newegg had any in stock (they seem to just be carrying new z97-g45 Gaming now). Upon setting new system up there wasn't a peep from the onboard sound. Tried another set of speakers and headphones on the front header of the tower, updated drivers, etc=no sound. I would've preferred to cross-ship RMA back to Newegg but they didn't have anymore in stock so I had to deal with MSI.

First rep I spoke with at MSI did some basic troubleshooting and then said he'd email me a driver to try and if that didn't work I could get RMA from them. Needless to say I never got email from him. Called back a few hours later and got different rep which did minor troubleshooting and then sent me the RMA. Biggest issue with RMA process is that I'm without board for 2 weeks. Would be nice if they'd ship new one out and let me send faulty one back upon receipt (in my case system worked for the most part, just no sound). Upon arrival I installed new board and was thrilled to hear sound. Unfortunately it was a fairly short thrill as the sound went out on this board just under 2 weeks later.

I've tried everything again with drivers and everything else I could find about it online with no change. If MSI would allow a cross-ship so I (actually my wife) isn't without the computer for 2 weeks I'd like to RMA it again but I know they won't so I"m not bothering. I'm just going to have to bite the bullet and buy a separate sound card (which is completely ridiculous that I need to do this for a new board and not happy about the extra expense I'm going to incur).

Unless MSI allows an exception to their 'no cross-ship' policy for an RMA this will be my last MSI board. I've been building computers for about 15 years and never had an issue like this, although I haven't used many MSI boards in the past (and looks like I won't be using many more).

Other Thoughts: Overall decent board but from my review & the looks of others they have some issues with some of these boards. Roll the dice & take your chance with this one.

Pros: Looks great, fair amount of fan headers and runs clean.
Easy OC, fair amount of options.
BIG PRO and reason for upgrade. Great experience with RMA. No runaround, quick turn around with no B.S.

Cons: First unit was poor, bios is still a swamp to navigate even though I have found more options than I had previously.

Other Thoughts: Fair board at the current price levels and if MSI handles their RMAs in this way all the time I will buy again as I would rather be able to replace a bad board than go to war trying to get some other company to stand behind their product.

Pros: I bought this board, along with all of the other components of my new computer in April. It worked fine until October.

Cons: Failed after less than 6 months At that point, I couldn't turn on the computer. Nothing, just dead. At this point I am waiting for it to come back from MSI reconditioned.

Other Thoughts: MSI customer service web site was almost unusable. Once I found their phone number, I called in and they set up my RMA over the phone.

Cons: After update bios. The motherboard wont boot up. I thought it was my psu dead but checked it was the motherboard. Suck to have this since im over 1 day of 30 day returning. Bad mobo

Pros: Shiny, Well packed, pretty.
Coherent, reasonable tech support but only on the phone. Website a joke.

Cons: D.O.A. Junk.
Waited too long to build.
Owned it too long for the 30 day return. Installed and no NIC, almost no USB, outdated bios, with functions that are a joke. The
MSI website warranty procedure is hideous, without talking to a representative. The forms are ugly with almost no way to correctly fill out the registration. No information feedback if you did fill it out correctly. Got an ancient version 1.0 MB with totally outdated, poorly explained drivers, lousy installation you have to guess at.

Other Thoughts: They told me it would be 15 days to turn around at least with no promises, no averages, no real feeling that they really cared.

Other Thoughts: Solid gaming motherboard. I upgraded from an asrock z87 lga1155 slot to this to install an i7 4790k. Runs great with cool temps.

Click 4 Bios is my favorite feature.
