1 out of 5 eggsOne Egg Board, bricked within two weeks.

Pros: Looks cool!!!!!

Cons: Seriously, I could write out a long and detailed gripe about this motherboard but others have already done it for me. Got the RMA approved and have contemplated spending another $15 just to fix it. Bought a $45 motherboard that has been working fine. Someone somewhere else said the more bells and whistles the greater a chance of it messing up... pretty apropos here.

Manufacturer Response:

5 out of 5 eggsBest mobo I've ever had. Cheers to MSi

Pros: I have owned this board for almost 2 years now.

- Fantastic BIOS
- Plenty USB ports
- Great overall design- no "strange" places for certain ports, power options
- Three on-board USB 2.0 hubs and one USB 3.0 header

I've had at least a dozen motherboards in the past decade. This one is by far the best one I've ever had. It was easy to setup, is stable, and the best BIOS I've seen. I just bought my fiance an ASUS Z97-A and it was utter garbage (it came with a bundle, I threw the dice and lost). I replaced it with an MSi Z97 Gaming 5 and it was gold. MSi has my 100% loyalty when it comes to boards- my next board will be an MSi, no doubt.

Cons: - Some of the software it comes with is questionable. This is optional so I'm not knocking it.

4 out of 5 eggsOverall, A Great Motherboard

Pros: Nice, distinguished color scheme.
Good overclocking tools.
Nice, interactive BIOS.
A healthy amount of SATA ports.
Lots of expansion slots.
The option to turn off the pinkish light on the audio boost plate.

Cons: The drivers that come with the computer are... numerous.
The "red" light on the audio boost plate is more pink(but there is the option to turn it off in the BIOS).
I had some issues with the audio driver at first, but downloading the latest driver from the internet fixed the issue.

Other Thoughts: I haven't used this board for a long time, but so far, its been a very admirable board. I have no major complaints. I would recommend this board.

5 out of 5 eggs2 year Review - 6/26/2013 purchase

Pros: I have had this board now for close to 2 years and has yet to give me problems. Updated Bios when needed with no issues, all ports still working strong. I have become a big fan of MSI over the years mostly just for there motherboards due to high quality and customer support.

When I plan on upgrading in a year or so I will most likely go with another MSI board!

Cons: None, But when people do not take care of their purchases and they die due to overheating because they ignore the fact that cases get dusty and refuse to clean them, it would cause a majority of the con's for this item. Others simply just don't follow directions when doing updates and mess things up due to incompetence.

Other Thoughts: Bought this in 06/26/2013

3 out of 5 eggsGreat Except....

Pros: Solid board for a good gaming PC. Built this a year and a half ago and only recently had my first issue. OC genie works decently. I like having the CMOS clear button on the outside for when I crank things up a bit too high.

Cons: Network card died after a little over a years use. I also constantly had my network dropping and the adapter would restart. I kept blaming my modem and router, but since I bought a PCI NIC to replace the onboard I no longer have any issues. Leads me to believe the card was the issue all along.
Onboard sound card is only decent. I ended up buying an upgrade.

1 out of 5 eggsBent Pins... Junk

Pros: looks cool
OC genie sounds cool

Cons: this is my third build and i seem to always get talked into by reviews to buy MSI. i have never had luck with them.
-had to install heat sink backwards, manageable
-heat sink got in the way of ram and had to wedge ram into first slot, nuisance but manageable
-bent pins on CPU socket, junk

Other Thoughts: I work second shift and don't have lots of time to work on my build as well as money, so i spread out the purchasing of these over 6 months. once assembled i had issues with only being able to boot with 1 stick of ram. After a few weeks of tinkering, I broke down and spoke to MSI customer service. The rep immediately told me it was an issue with bent pins(which it was) wasn't very helpful seem to be more interested in when the hours the hotline is open. told me to bend the pin back, which is like preforming surgery. long story short i have a 6 month old board with now more bent pins than it started out with. i am going to entertain GIGABYTE or ASUS, like i should have.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,
Based on the symptom you reported, we suggest you checking following steps below since many reasons can cause the situation like this ,
1. Check and make sure that power are connected correctly and firmly (JPWR1 and JPRW2).
2. Check your other major hardware’s (memory, video card, CPU and power supply) to ensure that they are not the cause of the issue.
3. If you need further assistant, please feel free to contact our technical support department directly at 626.271.1004 from M to F, 6am to 6pm Pacific standard Time.

5 out of 5 eggsNo complaints here!

Pros: Where to start... Board has greatly reduced lag spikes (Other computers on same router but without this technology still have occasional problems). Sound is best on a motherboard i have ever heard, making this the first mobo where I don't find myself adding a dedicated sound card.

Bios is easy to work in, easy to OC. Connections easy to access. Temps have been great. Sturdy. Bios updates through MSI have been painless.

Cons: Haven't really noticed any difference with dedicated gaming usb ports, but my mouse/keyboard are already quite responsive. Case badge is a little ostentatious.

Other Thoughts: I chose this board for my first enthusiast build and i do not regret it in any way. Will buy MSI in the future. Maybe an Mpower....hmmm

3 out of 5 eggs1 yr Review

Pros: I bought this along with an i5 chip. Overall I'm content with this Mobo. I tried this MSI mobo because I had luck with a still functional MSI 560 TI GPU. Its spacious and fits a custom heat sink with room for other hardware. SLI capable, dual or quad DDR3 ram slots( i use 16GB 10666 (2x8GB), UEFI BIOS nice and will eventually take over older BIOS screens. It's designed for easy overclocking. There are other features is has but I haven't used them.

Cons: One biggest issue I have with it is the killer ethernet. Onboard e-net is not to the quality I'm used to. It's slow to connect to any network and bugs out every now and then. The reason I give it a 3 rating is because it was used in a new build with immediate hard/soft ware issues. Had to work through the bugs. I'd probably seek another manufacturer for my next build.

Other Thoughts: Doubt this mobo is still marketed to consumers but I will say for the $150 I paid back then it's a bargin. Wish it had an onboard LED error reporter. Looks sweet, hardware layout is spacious make sure you have a big form factor.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Best board I've ever owned. I haven't gotten around to setting up raid yet, but it looks promising. Great speeds on the lan, better than usual built-in audio, and the manufacturer software is very useful. This thing sports an i7 4770k, 16 gigs of 19200 ram, solid state, 5 hard drives and 2 gigs of ATI video without a hitch. It sits in my Raven looking like a v8. Max settings for everything.

Cons: An enthusiast board like this could use some more sata slots built in. More likely that I need new hard drives.
