1 out of 5 eggs

Pros: price

Cons: could not get the usb ports to work at all, clean windows install, latest bios, latest drivers, usb ports just keep glitching, apparently is common for these boards

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,
Based on the symptom you described, many reasons can cause the situation like this. We suggest you try the following steps:
1. Please check and make sure USB option are "Enable" in CMOS BIOS setup, if possible udpate to latest BIOS version provided from our website (www.msi.com).
2. Verify that correct chipset and USB drivers are loaded if you're running with Window 7 or older.
3. If possible verify different USB devices.
For additional troubleshooting and supports please feel free to contact MSI team directly for assistance at 626.271.1004 from M to F, 6am to 6pm Pacific Time.

1 out of 5 eggsBad BIOS update, trying to charge to fix

Pros: Great features, great performance at a great price. I really like the dragon boot graphic.

Cons: Have done several bios updates but the last one bricked the board. Googling for possible home fix and find many many people have this problem bricking this board on BIOS updates. I couldn't fix it, but I loved that this board has a 3-year warranty so I can still send it in to repair the BIOS (although frustrating that it would brick at all). However, now trying to charge me $45 (as they did to another reviewer here) to fix it due to "bent pins" in the cpu socket.

Other Thoughts: Of 100s of computers I've put together professionally, I've never bent pins on a cpu or cpu socket. I'm very careful with my hardware when the case is open, and frankly I especially do when it's my personal machine. And these pins were not bent when I put them in the box. From this and other comments, I'm guessing their repair department is bent-pin-happy. Granted, I've never bricked from a BIOS update either (EVER), so there's a first for everything. Coincedentally, my first bricked BIOS and supposedly my first bent cpu pins went along with my first MSI motherboard purchase. hmmm.....

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,
Based on the symptom you described, We suggest on your next installation that you install the CPU and CPU heat sink fan prior of the install of your board inside case.
Bent pins is consider physical damages, all MSI socket LGA 1150 motherboards has protected CPU socket cover to prevent damages of the CPU pins. Ensure to verify the CPU socket first before install your CPU.

1 out of 5 eggsStay Away!

Pros: The board had lots of nice features that were very price competitive with other major brand of boards.

Cons: USB Problems! I've reformatted and update the bios and usb3 and chipset drivers to no avail. The board picks and chooses which usb connected items will work on any given day. Sometimes my mouse won't work sometimes my usb audio doesn't want to work it's a great big pain.. Stay away from this board. Lots of people having problems with the usb!!

Other Thoughts: Don't buy this!

2 out of 5 eggsWhat the hell

Pros: This board had the potential to be FANTASTIC. I have bought 2 of these boards. All around it looked to be a great board. The fact it had a GB Ethernet port to make use of my new Google Fiber internet speed. The bonus over clocking stature for down the road adventures if I ever ventured into the warranty voided side of computers. For a gaming MOBO the price was on target for my budget.

Cons: HOWEVER, the first was useless trash came in to me with CPU socket pens missing. Of course MSI assumed I did it saying they "Hand inspect each board".
The second board came with USB 3.0 on the MOBO were bent and I had to set them straight. There goes being "Hand inspected" again. Which was fine until I later found out recently, I can't have RAM in my 1/2 Slots. As they are apparently dead. So thanks again MSI for wasting my money not once, but twice.

Other Thoughts: The customer service is bad. The boards are mediocre from what I was told about the company from friends. They had recommended MSI highly and they didn't live up to my expectations with 2 boards that had MAJOR defects that if some one had took the time they could have fixed.
The first board they told me I had to pay 45$ to have them fix. Why should I have to pay them to fix something that was there fault? Instead of waiting 1 more month to get the board fixed I bought another one. This one had no huge problem at first glance. Until I tried to recently add more RAM the last DIMM slots 1/2 Don't work while 3/4 work just fine. All of my ram work as I checked each one. They only worked on 3/4 and failed on 1/2.
Wouldn't buy any MOBO from this manufacturer due to lack of customer service, and broken boards.

Pros: this board is awesome. nothing wrong with it. best value for the price, I'm running a xeon e3 1240 v3 works perfectly just pop it in and go. plus the Xeon is so much cheaper then the i7 but has no integrated graphics but if you are Gaming you know what you need. the audio boost thing lites up purple fyi. didn't bother me but it might for some people.

Cons: none.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat motherboard, can't complain

Pros: Bought this motherboard last year to complement my i7 4770K processor. I'm running it with 8GB 1600MHz DDR3 memory, a Crucial M4 128GB SSD, and a Gigabyte GTX670 OC (until the new 870 arrives), and Windows 8 Pro 64 bit. I enjoy the SATA 6Gb/s ports and 4 USB 3.0 + onboard 3.0 header. Drivers are stable in Windows 7 Pro 64 and Windows 8 Pro as well.

Shortly after setting everything up my computer would freeze up occasionally to the point I would have to do a button press reboot. I took the time to troubleshoot and found the issue was the Titanium Fatal1ty card I had in my computer at the time. The drivers were only certified through Vista and even custom drivers only went so far. I am going on about eight months without that card and my system has never run better. I'll eventually pickup another sound card, but for onboard sound this motherboard does better than most.

The BIOS is GUI based and can be controlled with a mouse. Not a huge fan, but it is surprisingly simple to navigate and adjust settings from.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: On sale this motherboard is a great buy. Supports Windows 8.1 64-bit (and Win7ProSP1 64bit) very well.
