2 out of 5 eggsLesson Learned

Pros: Physical installation was pretty easy.

Cons: When I took it out of the box, I found one of the heatsinks had come off and was rolling around in the bag. It's the one that says "Military Class III" in the pics. The base of the sink was still attached to the motherboard, but the upper metal part was detached from the rubbery base part. I'm not quite sure how to describe it; that's the best I can manage.

Board worked fine for about 10 months, then out of the blue it bricked on me. It would run for about 9-10 seconds and then restart. It wouldn't post or beep, it wouldn't respond to the keyboard or put anything on the screen. I took everything off the board except the CPU and it made no difference. I took it to a local shop and the guy there couldn't get it to work either.

Other Thoughts: I scoured forums trying to find similar problems, but I didn't see anything. Then I made the noob mistake of tearing the sticker off the back of the board, thinking I wouldn't have to pull the board out to read the numbers off it.

I ended up just replacing the board. This was my first build, so I didn't really understand the thing was damaged out of the box or how to get an RMA.

2 out of 5 eggsBoard not reliable

Pros: Has some nice features, did what I expected when I purchased.

Cons: Has failed on me twice now for whatever reason, have RMI'd it once and will do it again. Going with another board.

Other Thoughts: For a 'military grade' board it doesn't seem to fit the build.

1 out of 5 eggsTwo in a row, total failures

Pros: OC Genie does what it says.

Cons: I am now RMAing my second board. Both of them will, as MSI puts it, LOCK UP/HANG UP/FREEZE. It starts off random and infrequent, then progresses to constant and unavoidable.

I've owned this board type since November. I've switched every other piece of hardware used with it and it still does the same.

I bought a different board (ASRock) already and will just sell off the returned board after the RMA. I'm done. Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me. I can't afford to have another bad board that with all it's freezing and reboot loops will fry my SSDs or CPU.

Other Thoughts: i5-3570K @ stock and @ 4.2 with OC Genie
16GB Dominator GT 2133
MSI GTX660ti

4 out of 5 eggsWorks Great, Except...

Pros: Pros- Easy installation, and plenty of expansion slots. Runs everything just fine once in the system, And also has Click BIOS II.

Cons: Cons- The onboard graphics (VGA & DVI Ports) that came on the board were DOA. But if this happens to you just get your graphics card in there and connect directly to the graphics card. Dont worry, the motherboard will recognize it right away.

Other Thoughts: Overall, I still recommend this board.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

Can you tell us what model of processor you are using at usreview@msi.com? Please note that not all CPUs contain a GPU.

3 out of 5 eggsAwesome board until it stopped. rma in progress

Pros: Awesome board.
Oc'ed my 3770k to 4.8ghz no problem.

Cons: After about 11 months, it stopped booting. It would just go into a continuous boot loop.

Other Thoughts: Currently being rma. If it comes back in working order in the time frame specified, I will give it 5 eggs

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Motherboard

Pros: Looks good
OC Genie works great
Power button
Good manual
2x PCIe 3.0 slots

Cons: No PCIe x16

Other Thoughts: Great board! I have had it for 5 months and haven't had any problems. Booted up first time, and was easy to get everything installed on. OC Genie 2 works great. Got my i5 3570k to 4.2 GHz with just the push of a button, and it runs around 27 degrees celsius idle with the EVO 212 cooler. Has good expansion options but unfortunately there is no PCIe x16 slots, so a lot of card addons have to go into the PCIe 3.0 or 2.0 slots, which is where your graphics cards can only go. Overall great board!

5 out of 5 eggsVery nice, full-featured board

Pros: Lots of features, SLI/Crossfire, easy-to-use BIOS, price/performance, sturdy well-built feel to it

Cons: The main con is that the SATA connectors are positioned at the front of the board facing forward instead of upward. I don't know why some board manufacturers still insist on situating the connectors in this way, but it makes plugging in SATA devices a pain in the ---. It's enough of a hassle that I almost docked an egg for it.

Other Thoughts: Overall, this board is packed with features and was easy to install. Also, I'm a pretty big sound enthusiast and am pretty picky when it comes to audio quality, and the onboard digital sound chip on this board is quite nice.

The board posted the first time it was turned on with no fuss. As a warning, one thing I had to do in order to get Windows 7 to install was change the SATA config in the BIOS to from AHCI to IDE, so if you run into any issues with the Windows install disc hanging at start-up, then that is most likely your fix.

So, other than the SATA connector positioning mentioned earlier in the cons, this board really is a fantastic value for everything it gives you, and should be a strong consideration for anyone looking to move to an I5 or I7.
