Pros: It works! Basically turns my external HD into a thumb drive. Need to "safely remove it" every time I turn off my computer but I'm just glad the adapter actually works and that I have access to my data. Built a new computer that does not have firewire 6-pin connectors. Luckily my external HD has an esata port as well.

Cons: If you shutdown your computer while the device is still connected and active the external HD may not turn off. Not sure if this is an issue with my HD or the cord. Still works fine when you "safely remove" it. Just an inconvenience.

Overall Review: Hopefully it will last, not sure yet. Only had it a week.

Cons: This adapter never worked to allow me to connect a Newer Technology external hard drive (designed to stack with the previous generation Mac mini) with a new Mac mini via USB 3.0. I can easily connect these with a FireWire 800 cable, but wanted the additional speed of eSATA to USB 3.0. Disappointing. I'll be returning the adapter.

Overall Review: Bummer. It just doesn't work. Tried everything. I am a former Macintosh tech.

Pros: Works faster than firewire 400. Allows to connect more than one drive if you only have one eSATA connection.

Cons: Transfer speeds depend on the USB3 controller. On my board there are several controllers and only one (that controls the front panel) works close to eSATA speeds. All the back ports are twice slower.

Overall Review: I needed something faster than firewire for my Macally enclosures and this adapter does the job.

Pros: Cable works as advertised. Others say they had no luck with USB 3.0 speed performances on a Mac, but I did not experience those problems.

Cons: This cable is a bit pricey. But you'll pay most any price when you need a simple solution.

Overall Review: I purchased this product to transfer my iTunes library (1TB in size) from one Mac to another Mac. Although listed on other websites to not work at USB 3.0 speeds with Macs, the cable worked perfectly for me. In my test, I used a 2.5GB video file. My firewire 400 cable moved the file in 57 seconds. The StarTech eSata/USB3 moved the same file 23 seconds. I was very pleased with my purchase and it's performance. The old system was a 2007 iMac w/ a 1TB Lacie USB/Firewire/eSata external drive. New system is a late 2012 MacMini w/ 6TB Thunderbolt RAID external drive. Both Macs running version of Mountain Lion.
