Seems very good and fast 9/17/2020 7:21:10 PM

Pros: I've had no issues and have had this for about 2 weeks. I put 12TB on it and have been running non stop reads and writes about 1TB every day almost 24/7, converting old avi movies to mp4. Lots of copying and deleting. This is getting constant use and I've not seen any problem, and it's very fast for a spinning drive at about 245 write and read.

Cons: 15 days since they got the second one back that was DOA and they keep pushing the time frame farther out.

Overall Review: I recommend it and the price is coming down already, makes me wish I had waited two weeks to buy it. It isn't heating up a lot and just continues to work with all the activity I'm doing. Runs 36-40 C and that's fine for non-stop use in a fairly well cooled case.

Huge storage capacity, great as a data/backup drive 9/10/2020 8:24:07 AM

Pros: - Huge capacity
- Price/GB

Cons: - Noisy, but this is a drive meant for a DC

Overall Review: Be careful if you are using AMD's implementation of RAID. I originally connected this using a power USB to SATA adapter. Once I moved this drive to its own SATA port on the motherboard, the drive was corrupted because of the way AMD handles its RAID implementation. Thankfully, I have data recovery software and was able to retrieve most of the lost data. This isn't really a knock at the drive, just a cautionary tale.

Otherwise, this drive has been going strong in my desktop. I have it setup in Acronis as a backup drive for the other two computers on my network. 10/10 would recommend.

As a professional, I know a good deal when I spot one; great drive, especially for the price 8/26/2020 5:17:12 PM

Pros: As an enterprise class drive from Seagate, one of the long-time leaders in disk drive technology, one should expect a lot. ... Full disclosure; WAY back in 1990, the company I worked for sent me to Seagate's Scots Valley, CA, facility on a consulting engagement to help them with a database problem where I ended up becoming a regular in helping their MIS department, reporting directly to their Sr. VP who ran their data center. I got to know the company, and so of course when, in 1997 I opened my own data center, and since then to present, when looking for disks, I chose Seagate drives when the price / performance meet requirements. Over the years, some drives have been turkeys, but in this case, my initial experience was good, so I ended up buying FIVE. All are performing well, and I can tell you they are pretty darned fast - for my use-case, the only thing faster would be an SSD, but that's a different animal. ... Of course, other infrastructure contributes significantly to what kind of actual performance you can get out of a drive and I've been doing this long enough, I'm pretty good at it, but honestly, I haven't so far had the slightest problem with these drives, and I've got over a year on four of the five, if I recall correctly.

Cons: I only have a little over a year's use of them so far, but I have zero complaints.

Overall Review: Price-points always change with time, but at the present time, if you want a big drive, it's pretty hard to beat this one, especially for the price. I'm certainly very glad I bought these as they have helped me scrap all the smaller drives I've been using, and I now have a lower energy footprint as well.

12TB of Massive Storage 8/5/2020 6:17:13 PM

Pros: Under Windows 10 Pro, this drive is a beast thus far. Always stick with the Enterprise edition of Seagate drives. They are much faster than WD, and much more reliable under fierce conditions. I partitioned this one out to 4 Drives.

Overall Review: Well worth the $$$$. Seagate is the Best!! :)

Excellent Performance Drives 7/22/2020 3:00:31 PM

Pros: Quiet, Cool, 7200RPM, Large Capacity, NOT SMR!

Overall Review: Purchased 6 of these to "upgrade" a freenas system. Replaced HGST drives. These run cooler and more quiet than the previous drives. Zero issues so far.

Bad Drive 7/20/2020 10:20:59 AM

Pros: I did like the size and the price was right. I did know that Western Digital was a better drive but the price was a lot higher.

Cons: Well the drive was defective. It would start coping my files then it would come back with an error telling me that the drive was unavailable and could not continue. Was able to reformat it but it still come back with the same problem,

Overall Review: Since I did have problems with this drive I would still recommend it for the size and cost right now, I am syill waiting for a replacement so we shall see if it good if not I will not but another Seagate drive in the future.

Slow and no Native 4k 7/10/2020 5:17:07 AM

Pros: Price per Gig. I purchased these for a NAS. I’m aware of the statistics on BackBlaze, however I have always had good luck with Seagate drives and continue to purchase them. I usually get HGST for enterprise storage.

Cons: The NAS doesn’t recognize these as Native 4k. The throughput is horrible, around 7mb/s. Checked the Seagate web site, and it has a “Important” firmware update. I’ll update my review once I have done that.

Overall Review: To be fair, the NAS doesn’t have these listed as compatible. I should have gone with the Iron Wolf. I also installed them without checking the firmware. That’s not something that I usually have to do with HDs. After I contact the NAS Support and upgrade the firmware, I hope to see a
great improvement in performance. If not, I’ll put these in a Server and load up FreeNAS or something.

I have 30+ years data center experience.
