Putting Negative Comments into Perspective4/8/2013 7:31:02 PM
Pros: I am a "verified owner," but Newegg will only allow you to comment once as a verified owner and I have already done so.
I would like to put the negative comments on the SanDisk Extreme 64 gig flash drive into perspective for those just reading them. There are just 26 comments here, but there are 242 comments on another major etailer for the same SanDisk drive -- and on that site, this drive is rated 4.5 stars out of five.
So it appears that those who have experienced problems with the SanDisk Extreme represent a very small portion of a large universe of owners. I have two and both have been working fine.
Cons: None for me.

Pros: This thing is FAST. If you haven't moved to a(n) SSD then your spinny hard disk will be the bottleneck when moving large files.
I chose this particular drive because it has "lifetime warranty" and the highest IOPS I could find in a flash drive without spending ridiculous money for an "ssd flash drive" which is essentially what this is anyway. Im running Ubuntu on it right now on my laptop so the people who said it didn't boot, sorry for your luck. Also boots from the USB3 port on both of my computers. (and it boots FAST, faster than my spinny disk's operating system (win7)) its seriously like an early generation ssd.
Cons: It does get hot. but its lifetime warranty
Don't trust any electronics that regularly get hot with valueable data. as far as I'm concerned if its not saved in 2 locations (raid1) its not saved at all. If/when it fails i warned you.
I don't hate the design although it could be smaller I guess
but no cap to lose.
shipping was painless, packaging is a pain in the as$, but who really cares about that.
I'm really digging for things not to like...

cant beat that with a stick
well, i guess ill see how this goes and if and how long something so good can possible last.
Pros: One reviewer mentioned that this drive doesn't work as a boot drive, but I've been using it as an Ubuntu boot drive for a few months with no problems.
32GB primary partition as primary NTFS, to share files with Windows systems. 32GB as an extended Ubuntu boot partition.
I've tried a similar approach with slower (regular-speed) USB flash devices, and they work, but this one is much faster. It's very usable for work, including software development and playing around with servers. Performance hasn't noticeably degraded, either, unlike cheaper devices.
Physical design is pretty good -- the slide-out mechanism locks well enough in place to be easy to plug in. Still reliable after a few months riding around on a keychain in my pocket and backpack, used a few times a day.
Cons: Kinda large, but still small enough to fit next to other USB devices.
Cons: everything else...
The first one mounted and read but could not be written to. RMA for another and it mounts but cannot be read. 0/2 on these and will not be trying another.
DO NOT BUY THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!9/6/2012 6:39:27 PM
Pros: None
Cons: Doesn't work. Always hangs. First flash drive I've ever owned that didn't work right out of the box. SanDisk support is almost worthless. I should have paid more attention to the reviews than the price.
Pros: Fastest drives I have seen/owned.
HDD to/from this USB drive averages about ~11x-12x MB/s.
Have not tested to/from SSD, but still, the speed is 10x faster than my 8GB Sandisk Cruzer.
Has a loop at the end for key chain or strap.
Easy to retract.
Cons: Might interfere with your other USB devices if they are very close to each other and that your other USB device is a little bit big. But, I do not think that will deserve an egg off. Just a note.
Overall Review: The 16GB one is not as fast as this one. To/from HDD it only averages ~6x MB/s. That is still a feat.
Cons: Neither the original nor the replacement worked. SanDisk had been my brand of choice for USB Flash Drives. Never had a problem with SanDisk before buying this model. Confidence in SanDisk quality has been shaken.
Pros: I am a "verified owner," but Newegg will only allow you to comment once as a verified owner and I have already done so.
