Pros: Have used these devices for well over five years and can confirm that they not only work, they are extremely useful. As other reviewers have pointed out, many of the other makes (especially those direct via sampan) do eventually die - the power brick just plain fails. For reviewers who can't get drives recognized, you are having a Windows problem if that drive is spinning. I'll wager that you are trying to use a brand new drive - they have to be initialized first in Windows. Windows Explorer won't "see" them until you INITIALIZE them. In XP you have to first set your Programs List (Customize) to SHOW Administrative Tools, then go to Disk Management under Computer Management.

Cons: Why would Microsoft NOT show Administrative Tools on the Programs List by default? Can I get one big "DUH"?

Overall Review: I try and try to like Windows 7, but Windows XP is just about everything I ever wanted in an operating system. I'm an old geek who builds PCs for family and friends; I can too well remember 6" green screens and a DOS OS. A DOS OS is as close to NO OS as you can get. d:-}) Did I mention that I hate Macs and all things Apple?

Pros: Easiest way to slave a hard drive to a working computer. Much cheaper than a fancy enclosure. Works with EIDE and SATA, laptop and desktop hard drives.

Cons: None that I can find.

Overall Review: No geek toolbox is complete without one of these things, and Rosewill products have been reliable for me.

Pros: This thing is so handy. I may be a little backwards, but I never knew about these adapters until I found them by accident just browsing around. I don't know how many times I've had to open up the case to connect up old hds - what a pain. Anyway, I tested this on a 8gb-ata33 and 40gb-ata100 Maxtor hd. I copied over large 1gb files and verified them. The cables are long enough for me, and the power switch seems solid enough. It looks like it was made well enough.

Cons: I've only been testing this thing for a day. The power and data connectors are a hard plastic that are snug and secure now, but perhaps could wear over many insertion cycles. But this is probably more a general IDE cable problem; these connectors were originally designed for internal (inside case) devices expected to be more permanently connected, as opposed to external USB-like devices (which have metal connectors). Data integrity: So far no write problems, but in one test when I verified a 1gb file I had written, the first verify (using fc/b) said there was a one byte error (E7 vs E5) while two subsequent verifies of that file were perfect. Take that however you want (I can live with it, though, as I always verify my files to external drives).

Overall Review: Performance: Reads were about 14 MB/s, writes about 12 MB/s. Your results may vary. Blue LED: There is a blue LED hidden inside the data connector that you won't know exists until the connected drive is properly recognized by the OS. It seems to double as a busy LED when there is activity, except it stays lit when idle. Setup: 1. Plug PS into outlet 2. Make sure power switch is off (green LED next to switch) 3. Connect data cable to drive 4. Connect power cable to drive 5. Turn on power switch, let the drive spin up for a few seconds 6. Connect data cable to USB port -> Done. Swap drives: Just undo steps 3-6 in reverse order, then redo 3-6. Uninstall: Just undo steps 1-6 in reverse order.

Pros: I was looking for an intermittent-use, IDE and SATA USB solution and this unit fills the bill. The quality is quite good and the price more than reasonable for the capability it provides.

Cons: Many 2.5" IDE drives require more current than a single USB port can provide. Similar units that I've used all came with a "Y" cable to allow connection to a 2nd USB port for more current, this one does not. I solved the problem by using a powered USB hub that I has on hand.

Overall Review: It would be even better if the supplied power supply (for SATA and 3.5/5.25" IDE drives) could be used to power the 2.5" drives.

Pros: It works fine, buuuut use XPs Computer Management to format. Right-Click:My computer>Manager>Storage>Disk Management It will ask you if you want to make the drive used for quick removal or performance, and you need to do Performance, NOT QUICK REMOVAL. As this messed up one of my HDs.

Cons: little flimsy

Overall Review: Read the directions on how to turn everything on and in which order. NEWEGG ROCKS

Pros: This device is fairly inexpensive. It also works sometimes.

Cons: It's difficult to get the host computer to recognize that an external drive is attached. You have to go through multiple rounds of plugging-and-unplugging the USB cable, as well as rebooting the host computer, before the lettered drive (finally!) appears under "My Computer". I tried to use the device on two different computers, and I had the same experience (both were running XP Pro).

Overall Review: I called Rosewill tech support about this issue. The person I talked to said that my experience is simply par for the course -- that's just the way it works. When I asked why flash drives are recognized without incident, he said that flash drives are solid-state devices that respond much faster than mechanical drives.

Pros: Tested with over 20 different IDE drives and all work fine. Don't have any extra sata drives to test with, will update when I do.

Cons: None so far, will update if I find one

Overall Review: I had issues detecting a drive that had its jumper set to cable select, it worked fine when I set the jumper to master.
