QA and Costumer Support is a letdown

Pros: Good performer, solid specs

Cons: QA and costumer support is really a letdown of this product. The first unit I received was defective that I couldn't turn the computer off even though Windows turns off in seconds. The replacement unit doesn't have the problem, but it had small problems like reading voltages very inaccurately (multimeter reads 3.32v, motherboard reads 3.47v). After three month of use with the replacement unit, both wires of the antenna broke (I didn't even touch the antenna that much) and wifi became basically unusable. Submitted the issue twice on ASRock website, and half a month later still no reply. Besides both boards have serial numbers mismatch between the boards and the boxes despite that I bought condition new. While the board itself is great in many aspect, unfortunately poor execution from ASRock makes the overall experience far from satisfactory.

Best Mini ATX LGA 1151 Motherboard on the market today. Offset by slow, bad support.

Pros: If you are going to run an i9 K series you really don't have any other good choices right now. This is the only one that most professional reviews say can provide enough power to the CPU. Reasonably complete set of supporting ports and such.

Cons: Limited motherboard USB headers, fan headers and such. If you are running Mini ITX you shouldn't need much. Doesn't quite have the latest USB standards.

Overall Review: Alas the big failing is AS Rock support. My fresh built PC won't boot. Signs point to the Motherboard being the issue so I need some help troubleshooting based on the symptoms. AS Rock sent one "yes we got your email, Please work with your dealer" generic email. Nothing since. My dealer is Newegg. I don't see they offer support, nor do I expect them too. It's non returnable so if AS Rock doesn't come through, I've got an expensive brick. It's unreasonable to buy a new motherboard if the problem is actually something else. But without the help...I'll be stuck doing this the hard way. If AS Rock does help me out, I'll up my rating slightly. However they can't get 5 stars. They would have had to help a lot faster than the two weeks so far I've been waiting.

The best. Period.

Pros: - Every reasonable feature possible for a mini-ITX motherboard is present.
- Exceptional VRM, great motherboard layout.
- Dual M.2 slots, front-side with a heatsink, 2nd on the back-side.
- Plenty of USB 3.1 Type-A.
- USB 3.1 Type-C / Thunderbolt-3.
- Simple, clean, easy to navigate UEFI/BIOS.
- Intel 9560ac Wifi.
- Realtek ALC1220 audio.
- No flashy colours (the RGB can be turned off either in software or through BIOS, though it took a BIOS update to have the option show up there).

Cons: - None, nada, nil, zilch.

Overall Review: - I have been building systems for ~30 years now, and this motherboard is the best I ever owned.
- The only thing I would add is the ability to Secure Erase SSD from within the UEFI/BIOS, but that is serious nit-picking and really of no concern to most people.

Great work with this motherboard ASRock. Well done.

UPDATE May 2019:
ASRock UEFI/BIOS updates have added Secure Erase support, which is great to see. Many thanks. The board is running flawlessly with my 8700K running 4.8GHz all-core at stock voltages (it can go higher but I want this system to last). I run a pair of M.2 drives. The OS is running from an EVO 970 in the heatsink'd socktet which runs a bit hotter (40C in a 20C ambient room) than the rear-socket EVO 860 does (35C). This is mostly a result of the top-mounted M.2 socket's heatsink having a heat-pipe coming in from the VRM heatsink, so it is picking up radiated heat from there. But even overclocked in a Fractal Nano-S temps are not a problem.

the only true overclocking Z390 board in ITX

Pros: in recent times, ASRock has chosen to make their Intel ITX motherboards just a little more serious than everyone else's and it really does show with this one. there isn't a lot of choice in this form factor for Z390, so this board ends up with some things unique to it.

-the only Z390 ITX with Thunderbolt (very useful on ITX where you have no card slots)
-the only Z390 ITX with heatsinks connected by a heat pipe (essential for overclocking)
-the only Z390 ITX with Intersil ISL99227/B power stages; these are very expensive, top-of-the-line parts used by the likes of EVGA on their $500-class Dark motherboards

the result is you have the only Z390 ITX board that can truly be used for overclocking a hot, power-hungry processor like the 9900K. i've got mine at 5.1Ghz (1.376v idle dropping as low as 1.312v under AVX load), with no AVX offset, no SpeedStep, no jiggery-pokery. it just sits there at 5.1 all day and doesn't bat an eyelash even when it's pulling 350 watts at the wall (oh my!) with no GPU load. that's impressive. partial credit must also go to my NH-D15S, which is nearly the size of the motherboard itself.

Cons: all of the below comments are based on BIOS version P4.00.

setting voltages is a joke. i didn't realize that the idea of typing a voltage into a BIOS setting and having the board actually supply the amount you specified is some sort of black magic that only Asus has perfected. the numbers i type in have no correlation to what HWINFO reports. i type in 1.42v RAM voltage and get 1.456v. i type in 1.39v Vcore and get 1.376v idle.

i can't even figure out if LLC works "backwards" or forwards on this board; that to say if a higher number equates to more or less voltage boost under load. it seems to go both ways depending on the idle voltage. the LLC offsets never seem to be truly out of whack, thankfully (because LLC actually can blow up a CPU if you're too fast and loose), but they still must be watched very closely with lots of testing.

oh yeah and there's no integrated I/O shield. i hate to say it but this is a premium motherboard with the aesthetics of low-end junk. people will pass it over for its almost complete lack of bling factor, which is a terrible shame considering the performance on tap.

Overall Review: i have to admit the QC makes me a little nervous. my first mobo was DOA. the RGB came on, but it wouldn't boot. i reattached all the power cables and the LED's didn't even turn on anymore. swapped it for another one which worked straight away.

speaking of RGB, ASRock's LED controller software honestly is quite poor and not worth using. it's not so bad because the RGB can actually be programmed in the BIOS, which i think is a great feature, clumsy as it is. so skip the RGB software.

Dead after 5 Month

Pros: small... if it works.

Cons: After 5 month of using this MB, it decided to die. Motherboard no longer boots. no display, just keep on resetting.

This is so frustrating. Trying to see if Newegg would bother to help or do I need to reach out to the Mfg.

Very upset.

Junk and terrible company support

Pros: Easy to install?

Cons: -Absolutely abysmal company support - no phone option from company website, had to come to newegg. Got a guy who couldn't speak english humming and hawing and throwing darts at a board. Unprofessional and hardly reassuring. Didn't know anything about the products.
-Board fried my video card, ASrock recommended a nonexistent video card BIOS update? Put card back in old system where it worked just fine - dead.
-Faulty fan controller out of the box? Case fan and CPU heatsink never turned on. Don't show up in BIOS, Windows registers speed but nothing is working.
- Poor placement of heatsinks, SATA ports and RAM. Too many vital components close to each other, pain to install, suspect for long term use.

Overall Review: Spend the money and get anything else for the piece of mind.
