Pros: I got this board, and had no problems setting it up. The TPU switch on the board is great for those who want almost a 1/2 GHz overclock without going into the BIOS. The BIOS is quite amazing though. Compatibility: -Ubuntu 11.10: No Probs -Kubuntu 11.10: No Probs -Debian: No Probs -Didn't install, but booted off an Arch disk, no problems -Windows 7: Obviously no probs Great board for people who think 2 graphics cards are overkill. For anyone who wants a great gaming experience, this along with a K edition processor, GTX 560 ti or 570, and 4-8GBs of RAM will be great. I have that and BF3 runs flawlessly between 40-60FPS at Ultra.
Cons: Only uses 6 mount points; set everything up outside the board, you will be fine.
Overall Review: My setup: -This board -i5-2500k -4GB Kingston HyperX (will upgrade to 8 later) -MSI GTX560-ti Twin-Frozr II 2GB version
Pros: Worked great for a month then ethernet port died.
Cons: Network port died within a month of use. Contacted support with the issue, did all of the troubleshooting requested including reformatting and putting a fresh install of my OS on the drive. Nothing successful so I'm told to RMA. Put in my RMA request on the 13th and 10 days later still no reply. According to the website anything past 48 hours is moved to important and will be answered first but still nothing. Decided after the full week to just order a new NIC off of newegg which was shipped and worked great and saved me the cost of my time. Very disappointed with Asus's support on this. Used them for my last two mobos and never had an issue like this.
Overall Review: Really brings my view of the company down after having no problems in the past and now seemingly when I need them they do not reply.
Pros: Worked very well for my setup after I got things rolling. And works just fine with 8GB ram.
Cons: Couldn't initially format the hard drive, but didn't know why. After startup, games crashed, PC froze randomly. Eventually found out that 16GB ram was the problem. Board couldn't take 16 and only 8. Using just 4, reinstalled windows perfectly. Using just 8, played Batman perfectly. Any more than 8 just didn't work.
Overall Review: I had replaced this motherboard. Although it works better, I still get random PC crashes/ freezing. I will be attempting to try another motherboard. This one didn't work out very well for me.
Pros: When functioning normally, this motherboard is an outstanding product!
Cons: I was unlucky. Motherboard DOA! I think it's worth nothing that the percentage of DOA motherboards is pretty high on New Egg (around %20). NewEgg has not compensated me for the defective product. I purchased a second motherboard (ASROCKS) and it is working wonderfully (using the same RAM, CPU, supply and other components that I had originally intended to go with the ASUS motherboard). ASROCKS appears to have a much lower percentage of DOA problems. Essentially I had to pay for two motherboards to get one working one. Bad luck I suppose... Though I would say that I am surprised to have had this costly experience with NewEgg. I would not discourage others from this motherboard, though I would recommend paying extra for what ever DOA exchange contract is available.
Overall Review: Note on the author of this review: I'm an IT professional with 30 years of experience in component level electronics design, repair, and A/V installation. Not an expert in all areas, but I have zero problems with assembling computers from after market components. Good luck! :-)
Pros: Good build quality, feature set and performance. Extra USB 3.0 header for front mounted ports. Includes 4 SATA cables. I was able to undervolt my i5-2400 significantly, allowing for a very low-wattage quad core system.
Cons: The board is not long enough to reach the last set of mounting posts in my ATX case, so you have to be careful when connecting the power supply, installing RAM, etc. because the board is not supported from below in that area, and you don't want to flex the board.
Pros: Z68 features UEFI bios is nice Good layout on SATA and USB header plugs
Cons: No extras included No fan headers except near cpu
Overall Review: I went with this board for my i7-2600K build. It has all the performance and features that I needed without costing 2 bills like most Z68 boards. I do wish it came with an extra set of USB3 connectors on a plate for the back. The lack of fan headers on the lower half of the board also makes running intake fans harder than necessary. For the price you can't really hold that against the product, but it may make the higher priced solutions more suitable depending on how you use your box.
Pros: -HDMI, USB 3.0, friendly BIOS screens
Cons: -On-board HD graphic issue w/ dual extended screen -Not many choices if you're interested to install 16GB memory
Overall Review: As a first timer building my PC, everything went smooth except memory installation & dual screen setup. I ordered G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 16GB (4 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10666) but not compatible to this motherboard. So, I ordered Kingston HyperX series 8GB (2x4GB) and worked okay (got 7.8 out of 7.9 rating index). This was my mistake not looking at the compatibility chart on ASUS manual before the purchase. After the OS installation and up-to-date drivers for all components, I setup my Samsung syncmaster LCD monitor (DVI port) & 52" LCD TV (HDMI port) as dual extended view. Worked okay but when I reboot, I hear POST & OS boot but both are black screen! I switched DVI to VGA for my monitor and now okay. Also, every time I turn on or off the 52" LCD TV, my monitor flickers a few times and makes sounds as if I plug-in and out any USB unit. Hopefully, there's a fix to this or I may need to look for a separate video card. I've never had an issue w/ my old PC in same setting
Pros: Just what you need and nothing you don't. Easily over-clocked a i7 2600K to 4.5GHz with a cooler master 212+. Intel quick sync is very fast and saved me having to buy a new video card - just using an older NVidia 260GTX. Encoded a full length movie (4GB) to ipad2 format in 8.5 minutes with minimal CPU usage.
Cons: None so far.
Overall Review: This is a basic board which works as advertised for a basic build. I had been buying ASUS pro version, but just ended up leaving the extra sata ports free. If you are building a machine with a couple of hard-drives, a burner and a basic discrete video card, this is a good choice. ASUS quality with non of the frills that most people probably never use.
