Pros: I have owned many many headsets over the years. Countless first parties, Turtle Beaches, even some high end Trittons. I have no clue why i had ignored Astro's for so long. The only reason why i looked into these is because i recently set up an Elgato game capture device and due to the problematic ways the ps4 is with capturing audio, these were the highest recommended solution due to the mixamp's stream port. This port will push game audio/chat audio/and your mic over 3.5mm while still providing dobly 7.1 to the headset. Pro's: -Sound quality is premium -Mixamp Pro TR is fantastic -Astro Command Center software for Mixamp is very customizable and extremely user friendly (Download from Astro's site) -Mute button on mute cable is easily and predictably reachable -EQ presets, sound mixer (Chat/Game) on Mixamp, no fumbling around your ears for knobs. -Ear cups! The ear cups have to be the softest microfiber material on earth! -Extremely comfortable! -Construction is sturdy and feels like quality. The plastics don't feel weak or cheap -Hands down the most attractive product packaging. Watch an unboxing on youtube, you will see what i mean.
Cons: I can not recommend these headsets enough, but do be aware of a few minor cons: - Although the sound quality is great, the treble and overall clarity is not as good as my previous Turtle Beach Ear Force Stealth 500P. I am almost certain though that this can be rectified by adjusting the EQ's inside the Astro Command Center as the frequency ranges i am refering to are turned down slighly on default EQ from what i can recall from a brief glance into the software. But again, OUT OF THE BOX, not quite on par. -Price. This is a hard con to justify as a con. I see $200 in this product justified. -Cables. I prefer wireless. The Astro A50's are pretty much supposed to be the wireless version of this headset, but you do not get anything close to the capabilities of the A40 mixamp with the A50. -No bundled 3.5mm cable for stream port. If you intend on using the port, be aware you need your own 3.5 male to male stereo cable. -Gloss black on MixAmp. This is just me being picky but gloss black shows finger prints and dust. Just picking the mixamp up out of the box put prints on it.
Overall Review: Astro's are my go-to headsets from now on. Could not be anymore pleased. Suprisingly pleased at that.
