Reviews
With its ability to project high-quality UHD 4K HDR images at up to 300" in size, the UHZ35ST 3500-Lumen UHD 4K Short-Throw Laser DLP Projector from Optoma is a capable projector for the home or the meeting room. Whether projecting movies or presentations, the 3500 lumens produced from the DuraCore laser system is bright enough for fully lit rooms, and is virtually maintenance-free. A short-throw means you can place it close to your screen or wall, accommodating tight spaces and minimizing shadowing by giving less room for anyone to walk in front of the lens.
Flexible Installation
Adaptable to nearly any physical space, the UHZ35ST supports 360° orientation, including portrait.
External Power
Helping to keep the projector more reliable and compact, Optoma have equipped the UHZ35ST with an external power supply.
Add Streaming
While wireless streaming is not built into the UHZ35ST, it can be added by attaching an optional streaming media dongle to the USB-A port. The port provides up to 1.5A of power for a connected device.

The Optoma UHZ35ST is a compact 4K UHD laser projector with a short-throw lens and 3,500 lumens, suited to home-entertainment viewers who want a large image in a smaller room, including with some ambient light.
Recommended For
- PC and console gamers who want a large-screen setup with responsive play: the projector’s low-latency modes include 1080p at up to 240Hz, while 4K gaming is available at 60Hz.
- People setting up a big image in a compact room or temporary gaming space, where a short-throw projector can sit close to the screen and a lightweight unit is useful to move or reposition.
- Households using a living-room projector for gaming and SDR movies or shows, especially when they want a bright image and already have a console or streaming device to connect.
- Users who can connect external audio equipment and a separate streaming source, and prefer a compact laser projector over an all-in-one smart projector.
Real-World Use Scenarios
- For PC games that support 1080p at 120Hz or 240Hz, players get responsive controls on a large projected image; independent testing found these modes felt especially quick in games where timing matters.
- For casual or local multiplayer on a console, the UHZ35ST can show a 4K/60Hz game on a much larger screen than a typical TV; testing found this mode suitable for local play, though less suited to latency-sensitive online competition.
- In a smaller room where a projector cannot sit far from the screen, its short-throw lens can create a large image from nearby; measure the screen and placement carefully because the lens has no zoom.
- For movies in a home theater or living room, it delivers a large 4K image, and independent testing found SDR movies looked more consistent than HDR; the best result is likely with room lighting controlled.
- In a home golf simulator, the short throw can help fit a projected course into a garage or basement bay; plan the fixed mounting position around the screen and protect the projector if it sits near the hitting area.
- For an occasional office or classroom presentation, it can project slides on a large screen and is bright enough for rooms with some ambient light; its fixed lens means the projector needs to be positioned to match the screen.
