Great provider of internet for 10 years 8/11/2020 7:43:55 PM

Overall Review: I've owned this for the last 10 years and only now is it showing signs that it may need replaced.

Netgear has provided me with the best service, well at least when compared to linksys.

I can't recommend this router for use with 3rd party firmware 1/21/2019 3:58:38 PM

Pros: It works okay with factory firmware.

Cons: I've had a lot of issues with this router and 3rd party firmware. It acts very strangely and I have not found it to be stable or fast with 3rd party firmware. Chromecast is also extremely picky with settings on this router with 3rd party firmware. A newer chromecast device was working quite well for a few days and suddenly wouldn't communicate. Finally gave up trying and flashed factory firmware.

Overall Review: I wouldn't recommend this product for 3rd party firmware. It may work with very old 3rd party firmware, not sure. I found it to be buggy and slow and now work well with Chromecast. After this experience, I would rather return it, if I could, and spend a little bit more for a far more advanced router.

100 kbps max wifi, poor connection over T100 9/19/2017 3:13:03 AM

Pros: I got this on a sale for a bit less
It stands up, which is convenient for heating issues

Cons: The wifi over this product is terrible, and guess what: it's the software, not the hardware. All of the default settings on the firmware it is packaged with (1.2.4, close to the current release), and yet it still get consistently less than 100 kbps over wifi, which is about enough to load a picture every 5 seconds. The only fix is to downgrade the firmware all the way down to 1.0.0. Several forums state this as a common complaint for newer netgear products. My best guess is that the new firmware engineers are more novice than they would let on, because this is something that shouldn't get past QA.
Additionally, out of the box, connection issues on all of the ethernet ports cause frequent packet loss despite connected devices count under 4, which is easily solved by connecting a device to the modem using the same quality cable... how convenient.

Overall Review: Get yourself a different router, preferably anything besides netgear for now.

Rogue Communications from router to Netgear server 9/1/2017 7:25:04 AM

Pros: Quick user interface

Cons: I installed and configured this router yesterday using a computer on my network (Win 7-64 Pro.) Today, the Microsoft Edge browser started automatically on an entirely different computer (Win 10-64 Home) and it tried to connect to Netgear.com, in an attempt to transmit the serial number of my router. It was caught by my anti-virus, but clearly the rogue communication should NOT have occurred in the first place. I've looked through all of the Basic and Advanced settings, and there doesn't appear to be any setting for this communication, which I assume is some kind of auto-registration.

Easy Set Up - Great For Today's Internet Speeds 2/28/2017 9:15:28 PM

Pros: I recently upgraded to 150 Mb/s internet, and quickly found that my old router could only push 100 Mb/s. Obviously, I didn't want to bottleneck my internet speed, so I picked this up, and have been very satisfied with it. It has been reliable for Ethernet and Wi Fi connections, and I can't ask for much more out of it.

Cons: Setting it up was a little different than I'm used to (despite the fact that I work with networking hardware fairly regularly), but wasn't so bad that I couldn't figure it out in an hour or two.

Overall Review: If your router is the bottleneck in your network setup, this is a very solid upgrade choice, especially considering the price.

Not the fastest out there, but solid performance for the price 2/5/2017 4:05:46 PM

Pros: - Cheap, easy to use, WPS works, Handle multiple wifi connection like a champ!

Cons: - Not dual band or 5ghz, but at this price...

Overall Review: My cousin bought a DLINK not a long time ago, fast speed, but when more than 1 people use the WIfi, the lag was painfull.
I always have Netgear as router, my old one died after 6 years (good times..).

Excellent value for current cable modem speeds 10/15/2016 1:44:40 PM

Pros: - Low cost
- Easily handles 100Mbps Internet downloads
- Friendly to open source (TomatoUSB in my case)

Cons: - Genie was a pain, and http://routerlogin.net only works with wireless connections (which I don't have).

Overall Review: While I've heard that wireless performance is weak on this router, I'd definitely buy another one, since we use a (more centrally located) AP for wireless connections.
