WD_BLACK P10 Game Drive for Xbox One USB Type-A to Micro-B cable Quick Install Guide
An impressive external usb hdd3/30/2020 8:13:06 PM
Pros: - Mass storage with a small form factor
- Fast read/write speed
- one cable that handles data and power
- easy to plug and play for more mobile gaming
Overall Review: I had sworn off mechanical drives a few years back, and did not think I would consider anything but SSD. Newegg had an impressive sale offer for the WD_BLACK P10 Game drives. The storage to price was better then any HDD, or SSD. The read/write speeds were very good for a usb external storage unit. My last mechanical HDD was a WD Black 5TB internal drive that served me well until it started to report SMART failures. So I took a chance and bought one.
Overall it is a great external HDD. It comes pre-formatted as an ExFAT format. I considered a reformat to NTFS, but found most suggest the ExFAT for better plug and play usage. Crystal Disk test report a average read/write of 125MB/s compared to the advertised 140MB/s. This speed put my WD BLACK 5TB internal HDD to shame which only averaged 105MB/s. I copied my hefty library of games, about 3TB, over from my secondary SSD. This took about an hour, and had no errors. I then tested a few games. Loading does take a bit more time, but gameplay does not suffer much.
I would definitely suggest the WD_BLACK4TB P10 Game HDD. I may not use it for my desktop often, but it is a good backup. I may also use this for my gaming laptop that has a OEM 1TB SSHD. The internal drive does okay for running the OS, but games do not run smooth. When I connected the WD_BLACK P10 Game Drive and played some games it was far smoother when run from the external drive. So another good usage if your internal laptop storage is small, slow, or both.
A small negative. I had hoped to take the drive out of the external case for use internally in my desktop. I was able to find a Hex Key small enough to remove the outer case bolts, but the cover would not come off. The top cover is inset, and I can only assume not designed to be user serviced. Just a minor let down. I slightly doubt I would see much better performance by installing it to a SATA 3 connection.
Overall Review: I needed an external backup drive for my system and needed 5TB. This was on sale so I decided to pull the purchase. There was an issue where the shipment was lost in the mail but newegg sent a new replacement without issue.
I like how this is small and you don't need an external power connector, it's powered by USB. The transfer speeds are great too despite it being a 5400 rpm drive. I routinely get Read speeds over 100 MB/s and it goes as high as 140 MB/s. The write speeds are in that range as well. It's also very quiet and I can't even tell it's on a lot of the times.
I would recommend buying this whenever it goes on sale.

Works perfectly on PS54/28/2021 7:01:57 PM
Pros: - Can store and run PS4 games directly from HDD on both PS4 and PS5
- Quiet
Overall Review: Easily play PS4 games directly from the HDD on either PS4 or PS5. It is quiet. It cannot play PS5 games directly. They must be transferred to the internal storage to play.
Pros: It's a Western Digital Black drive. That's long been the top of the line in hard drives. 5 TB at a good price on sale.
Fast USB 3 interface.
Cons: Only 5400 RPM.
Only 3 year warranty. Most WD Black drives offer 5 years.
Overall Review: Still early, we'll have to see how it goes years down the road. Since it is a WD Black, I expect many years of trouble-free service.
I'm using it to back up my PC, creating images of my drives.
Pros: - Works flawlessly out of the box
- Comes with micro-b to USB cable
- Drive is pre-formatted to Fat-EXT
Cons: - The included cable is very short
Overall Review: I purchased this drive to use a "Time Machine" backup disk for my Macbook Air M1 notebook. When I first plugged it in the Mac (via a hub) it did not recognize the drive. I had to use a hub initially as the Mac only has USB-C (Thunderbolt) ports. I rebooted the Mac and the drive appeared on the desktop. I subsequently reformatted the drive to Mac Journalized (case insensitive) and renamed it "Time Machine". You might find that the supplied cable is extremely short. As a word of caution from my prior experience with external drives that use micro-B USB ports, do not buy/use cables that are very long. The external devices are powered over these cables/interface and power loss is significant. Approximately 12" (~30cm) or less seems to be the sweet spot. There may be something about micro-B cables and external drives (including SSDs) that restrict/lose power? I subsequently replaced the provided cable with a USB-C to micro-B (8" long (~20cm)) and ditched the hub. Overall the drive works perfectly and was an incredible bargain at the sale price.

Two 5TB purchased, both with bad sectors.5/27/2021 8:04:52 AM
Pros: Newegg handled both returns without any hassle.
Overall Review: The two 5TB drives were purchased in a span of two weeks about a month ago. Both of them failed the initial tests with DLGDIAG (Data Lifeguard Diagnostic for Windows, WD drive utility) with Test Error Code "08 - Too many bad sectors detected". Fortunately, Newegg handled both returns quickly and easily.

Pros: Nice metal case
Modern looking
Fast for a mechanical external hard drive
WD quality
Great value for the price
Cons: None
Overall Review: It’s an outstanding product for the price, very fast considering it’s an external mechanical hard drive, all the WD devices I have owned has been great, this ones no exception, does what I need it to do & does it fast
Pros: It's a whopping 5TB
Relatively quiet in my noisy room
Cons: Only hit advertised speed in benchmarks
Overall Review: This is an out-of-package review, as I am not the one who will be using it
380/130 read/write MB/s 14,404/1,464 IOPS in benchmark software
100 (up to 115)/100(up to 115) MB/s read/write 1GB file
530/97KB/s 1000 files 1.28MB total size
115MB/S when reading and writing from Windows off a 20Gb/s USB 3.2 Gen 2 port and NVMe drive. Odd that synthetics bypass this. Might be the cable that comes with it?
Pros: - Mass storage with a small form factor - Fast read/write speed - one cable that handles data and power - easy to plug and play for more mobile gaming
