The Kingston KC600 512GB is a 2.5-inch SATA III internal SSD for upgrading compatible laptops and desktops, with sequential speeds up to 550 MB/s read and 520 MB/s write.

    Recommended For

    • People replacing a hard drive in a SATA-compatible laptop or desktop can use the KC600 as a system drive for everyday booting, app launches, and file transfers. Reviews found it performs near the practical limit for 2.5-inch SATA SSDs.
    • Users who need a 2.5-inch SATA drive for an older computer or a system without a compatible NVMe slot can use the KC600 as an internal storage upgrade, provided the device supports 2.5-inch SATA.
    • Users who regularly copy large files to a SATA system drive may value the KC600’s TLC NAND and sustained-write behavior; PCWorld’s test of a 1TB KC600 found it maintained write speed through a 450GB file transfer.
    • Organizations or individuals whose compatible systems support TCG Opal or eDrive can consider the KC600 for a SATA drive with hardware-based AES-256 encryption; the encryption features require compatible system software or configuration.

    Real-World Use Scenarios

    • Replacing a mechanical hard drive in a compatible laptop or desktop with the KC600 can make startup and everyday loading feel more responsive, while reusing the computer’s 2.5-inch SATA drive bay.
    • Using the KC600 as a system drive for everyday tasks such as opening apps, browsing, and starting Windows can reduce storage-related waits; it remains a SATA drive, so it will not match the faster transfer ceiling of an NVMe SSD.
    • Installing PC games on the KC600 can shorten storage-related loading compared with a mechanical hard drive, but it should not be expected to increase in-game frame rates.
    • Keeping frequently used documents, photos, and applications on the KC600 gives a laptop or desktop a quiet, shock-resistant alternative to a mechanical drive for routine storage and access.
    • For a compatible work computer, the KC600 can be used where hardware-based drive encryption is needed, provided the system and encryption-management setup support and enable its security features.
