Pros: -Runs much cooler than previous x299 CPU iterations -Has much more overclocking headroom at lower voltages. -14 cores
Cons: -On the Intel side it's a compromise between more cores and best speeds. -Clock for clock AMD has better for performance at the same speeds.
Overall Review: I got the 10940x coming from an 7920x. 12 cores to 14 cores. Not much noticeable difference in most of my workloads. However I use much less power and get better performance in certain applications that prefer more clock speed. My 7920x couldn't get stable past 4.7 Ghz. With this 10940x, I've been able to use specific core overclocking. I run 6 cores at 5 Ghz, 1 core at 4.9 Ghz, and the rest at 4.8 Ghz. That was worth it. I'm happy with this purchase. It was nice that I could stay with the same motherboard I had so the only thing I had to purchase was the new CPU. However if I was building something from scratch where I had to buy all new parts, I'd probably go AMD. Intel got me in a re-build during 2017 and since the x299 platform is still being supported, this was an easy choice for my use case to get some extra performance without starting over.
