With the Wolfdale core, Intel pours more power into the Core 2 Duo package. The 45nm process allows Intel to reduce power requirements to 65W. Lower power means less CPU heat, which translates to lower system heat and longer system life. They also pack more features into the chip.

The L2 cache has been bumped to 6MB and the Front Side Bus has been pushed to 1333MHz. You can now use both DDR2 and the hot new DDR3 memory for extreme performance. They also boosted memory access and execution speed with Wide Dynamic Execution and Smart Memory Access. These technologies work together to let the processor handle more instructions with more data per clock cycle. You'd better watch out -- your enemies will be shooting back faster now!

The Advanced Digital Media Boost feature has been enhanced with the addition of the SSE4 instruction set and Intel HD Boost, to give your entertainment experience better audio and video processing. It will also help with speech recognition, engineering and scientific applications. Most important of all is the enhanced security that comes with increased speed and encryption power.

  • newegg Specialized Dual-core Microarchitecture The Intel Core 2 Duo processor includes dual execution cores in a single processor to enable execution of parallel threads or applications simultaneously, resulting in revolutionary dual-core performance, breakthrough energy efficiency and exceptional system response time when running multi-threaded applications, or multiple demanding applications. The innovative 45nm fabrication technology optimizes thermal performance for reduced power consumption and noise.
  • newegg Intel Advanced Smart Cache Intel Advanced Smart Cache Technology dynamically allocates the shared L2 cache to each processor core based on workload. This efficient, multi-core-optimized implementation increases the probability that each core can access data from the fast L2 cache, resulting in significantly reduced latency for frequently used data and overall improved performance.
  • newegg Intel Extended Memory 64 Technology (Intel EM64T) Intel EM64T provides an enhancement to Intel 32-bit architecture by enabling the mobile processor platform to access larger amounts of memory. With appropriate 64-bit hardware and software, platforms based on an Intel processor supporting Intel EM64T can enable use of extended virtual and physical memory.
  • newegg Enhanced Intel SpeedStep Technology (EIST) EIST allows the system to dynamically adjust processor voltage and core frequency to decrease the average power consumption and heat production. Combined with existing power saving features, EIST provides an excellent balance between supplying power when you need it and conserving power when you don’t.
  • newegg Execute Disable Bit (EDB) Intel's Execute Disable Bit function can prevent certain classes of malicious "buffer overflow" attacks when combined with a supporting operating system. Execute Disable Bit allows the processor to classify areas of the memory where application code can execute and where it cannot. When a malicious worm attempts to insert code into the buffer, the processor disables code execution, preventing damage or worm propagation.
  • newegg Intel Virtualization Technology (Intel VT) With Intel VT, one hardware platform functions as multiple "virtual" platforms. For business, Intel VT offers improved manageability, limiting downtime and maintaining worker productivity by isolating computing activities into separate partitions. In the home, Intel VT allows for the creation of unique user environments for different family members who are using the same platform simultaneously.

Pros: Great CPU. Wish I bought it back when it was 70-90 dollars (Maybe I'm mistaking with another LGA775 CPU...)

Overclocker and non overclocker delight. 3ghz for amazing performance.

Cons: dat fat price

its 2012 and this dual core still rocks 10/18/2012 7:32:35 PM

Pros: Core for Core this is like the i5 2500k's little brother that packs a punch lol, undoubetely the best dual core ever made , ive tried several and this one blows some quad cores ive tested . Excellent gaming cpu runs flawless with my GTX 550ti nvidia card

Cons: payed 90 bucks for it in 2012 a bit steep for a dual core but its worth it

Overall Review: this chip is over 4 years old and its still a powerhouse, i paired it with a simple 55 dollar asus p5G41t-m lx motherboard and did a simple jumperfree overclock to 3.7 ghz and this thing makes my fx4100 clocked at 4.3 ghz seem slow espicially on my media speed test which ive found tends to show the strength per core of a processor , the only build i have that does it better is my i5 2500k powerhouse. i have no problem forking out 90 dollars for a dual core that packs this good of a punch , its old school with new school relevance.

Solid 10/14/2012 5:45:11 PM

Pros: Although O/C'd configured through Biostar MOBO w/ a after-market fan this cpu has worked flawlessly since 2010. I'm going to upgrade and install this for my bro-in-law's build.

Cons: None

Underwhelming 9/21/2011 8:03:35 PM

Pros: Runs...

"Legacy" hardware friendly...

Cons: Probably the most underwhelming CPU I've ever had the displeasure of owning.

Performs poorly if you're looking for anything beyond casual PC usage.

For the price, one can get just about any similarly price CPU/MB combo on newegg and get at least triple the performance.

Overall Review: Spend your money on something with a future.

Quick LGA 775 8/9/2011 6:01:11 AM

Pros: Quick and stable at over 4.0GHz on air. Not overclocked now, but the easiest to over clock I've ever owned.

Cons: Price for older technology.

Overall Review: Replaced my E6750 almost 1.5 years ago. Much quicker stock, but when overclocking there really is no comparison. This will be the last 775 before switching to new technology. If you need more horsepower from you 775, look no further. Still chugging along, and hoping to get another couple of years out of it. We shall see how long I last b4 upgrading.

:) 7/30/2011 6:29:25 AM

Pros: This is the first processor that I haven't been able to multitask into freezing up. It's also the coolest running processor I have owned. With the way I heavily rely on processing power for CAD FEA's that is a must.

Cons: It's not a LGA-1155 socket, so now that my mobo needs replaced, finding a good one that will handle this and DDR3-2000 ram is difficult.

Overall Review: Despite it starting to be old tech, and being in a mobo that's dieing, it's is still out performing my schools i5's and not to far behind the i7's.

Solid Performer 5/21/2011 9:07:08 AM

Pros: Intel rock solid reliability. Low power consumption & runs cool

Cons: Price would be the only con since this cpu is priced dis-proportionately higher than the next step down cpu(e8400)

Overall Review: I've been running this cpu for over a years with no problems I did not install the cpu fan that came supplied with it, but instead used a heatsink fan from a intel core2 quad (Q6600). The Q6600 heatsink is larger than the stock E8600 & uses a steel frame bracket (instead of the plastic one used on the E8600) to attach it to the board. I removed the push pins & used spring loaded screws & a steel back plate. This set-up worked great with no "flex" in the motherboard & the CPU runs plenty cool & the fan runs very quiet all the time.
