Pros: I like the compact size. This is my 2nd NUC. The first one is a year old. No hardware problems, but I wished I had spent extra to get the largest CPU and RAM on the 1st NUC. I did for this model (NUC 10 BXNUC10I7FNK1) with 64GB of RAM. I installed 1Tb on a SSD, which for the moment is sufficient. This NUC is snappy and loaded the Win10 OS quickly and also the virtual hosting environment. I use the NUC as a substitute laptop, linked to a bluetooth keyboard and a small gaming screen.
Cons: One significant con...the SD card is the large sized card (sorry, I don't know the nomenclature). My first NUC allows the micro card to be inserted directly into the NUC so that it disappears inside the NUC. The larger card sticks out and is now something that can catch on things when transported. That is something I would have looked at closer when selecting the purchase. I wanted the 64GB option for RAM so that was my overriding selection choice, but I do wished I had checked the SD card closer. A couple minor cons: I have noticed a buzzing sound at times that sounds like a fan. I understood the NUCs to be 'fan-less' so that seems a bit odd. The buzzing has not affected performance, but if you are using the NUC for video or movie playback then this could be an annoyance. Performance comes at a price. The fastest Intel chip, 64GB of fast RAM, and 1TB of SSD capacity does not come cheap and starts to look like a mid-range laptop (in terms of cost). This unit did not come with a pre-installed OS, so that was an extra cost, but did allow me to chose my options for the OS. If you are a Linux person or want to customize your OS environment, then you don't have to pay the MS tax.
Overall Review: If you are looking for a compact computer that is portable and is a hell-of-a-lot more powerful than an expensive laptop, this option is good. The hardware is excellent, my main gripe is the large SD card that sticks out of the NUC. Everything booted up on the first go. So far most of my annoyances have been on the software side. And that is not really a problem with the NUC.
