GIGABYTE GeForce GT 420 2GB DDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 ATX Video Card GV-N420-2GI (rev. 3.0)
GIGABYTE GeForce GT 420 2GB DDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 ATX Video Card GV-N420-2GI (rev. 3.0)

Pros: inexpensive HDMI Reliable brand name Performance Easy to Install Software included

Cons: None

Overall Review: Replaced a 6-year old video card (BIOSTAR Radeon HD 4650, 512MB, 128-Bit GDDR3, PCI Express 2.0 x16 Video Card) that died recently. I wanted to go with GeForce > Radeon this time too. Super easy to install the Gigabyte card and it works great. Definitely recommend this video card to others for a decent upgrade over integrated graphics

Not a BIG difference vs OEM

G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 4GB 204-Pin DDR3 SO-DIMM DDR3L 1600 (PC3L 12800) Laptop Memory Model F3-1600C11S-4GRSL
G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 4GB 204-Pin DDR3 SO-DIMM DDR3L 1600 (PC3L 12800) Laptop Memory Model F3-1600C11S-4GRSL

Pros: Looks cool. Reliable brand name Price at time of purchase

Cons: No noticeable difference in performance / speed vs OEM RAM.

Overall Review: I bought two 8GB sticks for a total of 16GB in a new lenovo ThinkPad E550. OEM was one 8GB stick. Adding one additional stick or replacing both showed no difference in the overall performance of the machine. Thankfully, I was able to use the OEM 8GB stick in a different machine and I kept the matched pair of Ripjaws in the ThinkPad. Because this was so inexpensive at the time of purchase, I can't really find fault with the Ripjaws RAM, but it didn't increase the performance of the system as it claims. GSkill makes good stuff so I don't have a problem with them, I was just hoping to see a significant increase in performance after installing two 8GB sticks in the machine.

Great SSD Drive

SAMSUNG 850 EVO 2.5" 500GB SATA III 32 layer 3D V-NAND Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) MZ-75E500B/AM

Pros: Easy to install with included software RAPID mode Price at time of purchase

Cons: None

Overall Review: Breathes new life into an old machine or a new machine if either is originally equipped with a mechanical hard drive. This is the most significant performance increase I can see, RAM following the addition of a SSD. Good Brand, good reviews. First one they sent to me was a dud, got a replacement and I was up and running.

Overall Review: Great drive. Gave new life to a Toshiba P840-ST2N01 laptop along with a clean install of Windows 7 and 16GB of GSkill DDR3L RAM. This PC appears to be faster than my i7 equipped ThinkPad E550 with a Samsung EVO 850 500GB SSD and 16GB of GSkill Ripjaws DDR3L RAM. There are differences between the GSkill memory in that the DDR3L in the Toshiba is low latency (9) and the RAM in the ThinkPad has a latency of 11. Samsung EVO 850 vs Kingston SSDNow V300 i7 5500U in the Thinkpad vs i5-3317U in the Toshiba. Windows 7 Pro in the ThinkPad vs Win 7 Home in the Toshiba. I also have the RAPID mode enabled on the ThinkPad so I'm pretty surprised to see that the Toshiba is significantly faster. Maybe there's more to it than what I'm aware of in the respective PCs. The Thinkpad is new so there's not much running in the background vs the clean install of Windows on the Toshiba. Great SSD and I would definitely recommend it.

Outstanding RAM at a Great price

G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 8GB 204-Pin DDR3 SO-DIMM DDR3L 1600 (PC3L 12800) Laptop Memory Model F3-1600C9S-8GRSL

Pros: Very Fast RAM Inexpensive Easy to Install Recognized Immediately Lower Voltage / Less Power Consumed

Cons: Only works with SPECIFIC Intel Processors; i.e., third- and fourth-generation Intel processors

Overall Review: Amazing upgrade to a 3 year old Toshiba P840-ST2N01 laptop. Immediate speed increase. Combined with a Kingston 240GB SSD, the Toshiba is now ridiculously fast. Breath life into your old PC by installing these items and a clean install of Windows. You will be amazed at how fast that old PC can be! Highly recommend!
