Nice AC router for the price

ASUS RT-AC65/CA AC1750 Dual Band Gigabit WiFi5 Router with MU-MIMO
ASUS RT-AC65/CA AC1750 Dual Band Gigabit WiFi5 Router with MU-MIMO

Pros: Nice twin band (5th gen.) router. Easy to configure via web interface. Good power, stability. Fast enough for about any internet connection nowadays. It stands upright. So it takes less space on a desk although it needs more clearance in height.

Cons: It is pretty light, so it's a bit difficult to make it stay in place when many stiff cables are plugged in.

Overall Review: It's one good router. I'd buy the same again, especially on sale

Deceiving product

HP Desktop PC 8100 SFF Intel Core i3-530 4GB 250GB HDD Windows 7 Professional 64-Bit
HP Desktop PC 8100 SFF Intel Core i3-530 4GB 250GB HDD Windows 7 Professional 64-Bit

Pros: This PC looks quite performant with Core i3 and Win7 Pro Takes little desktop space.

Cons: The PC arrived quite dirty. Looked like grade B or C No DVD-RW as advertised but a DVD-Rom The hard drive was labeled "Dell" (in a HP brand PC ???). Also the hard drive had the three big letters BAD hand written on it. Tested it with Seagate Seatools which found lots of bad sectors. Drive is indeed failing. It should never have been in this computer. What kind of refurbishing is that ?

Overall Review: I've had good service from Newegg in the past. I hope it's not a new trend but only and isolated case. In the same order, I also bought a refurbished ASUS CM1435-CA002S which looks and works like a brand new one.

Nice monitor

ASUS VA27DQSB 27" 1920 x 1080P Full HD, 75Hz, IPS, Adaptive-Sync, Eye Care, HDMI DisplayPort VGA USB Hub, Frameless, Ergonomic Design, VESA Wall Mountable, Height Adjustable, Built-in Speakers LCD Monitor
ASUS VA27DQSB 27" 1920 x 1080P Full HD, 75Hz, IPS, Adaptive-Sync, Eye Care, HDMI DisplayPort VGA USB Hub, Frameless, Ergonomic Design, VESA Wall Mountable, Height Adjustable, Built-in Speakers LCD Monitor

Pros: My wife needed a monitor she could use in portrait mode as an extension monitor for her laptop. Well, it does the job very well. It is easy to adjust in height and make it pivot 90 degrees to put in portrait mode. Now her long work pages can be viewed with about no scrolling. Video quality is quite good, much better than the laptop it is attached to.

Cons: No cons really

Overall Review: It does what it was bought for. Just remember that, when in portrait mode (vertical), the horizontal resolution is only 1080 pixels large so it may be a little tight for some applications. I would recommend this monitor and would buy again if needed.

Good product overall

StarTech.com SATDOCKU3S Plastic 2.5" & 3.5" Black SATA Hard Drive Docking Station for 2.5/3.5 HDD
StarTech.com SATDOCKU3S Plastic 2.5" & 3.5" Black SATA Hard Drive Docking Station for 2.5/3.5 HDD

Pros: Fast transfers on USB3, works well on USB2 also. Easy to use with either 2.5 or 3.5 in. drives.

Cons: I had a problem on a particular computer, a Minix Neo Z83-4, on which, when using the USB3 port, it took something like 2 minutes to access any directory on the disk and transfers were also extremely slow. On USB2 ports, everything went smoothly. (Other HDD adapters or external HDD cases worked fine on either USB port of this particular computer) I figure it must be a chipset incompatibility between this StarTech docking station and the Minix since this adaptor performed perfectly either in USB3 or USB2 on a couple of other computers. One thing to mention: After a power outage, the station will remain in the off state since its switch is not mechanically latched. So, no good for a small server or anything that needs to remain constantly on.

Overall Review: This docking station seems well built, not too big, performs well overall. Good tool to make quick transfers. Good quality 40 inch USB cable. The AC adaptor comes with 4 different plugs for worldwide use.

Nice way to transfer files or clone a drive

ORICO 2.5'' HDD Enclosure USB C to SATA III 2.5inch 6Gbps High Speed HDD Enclosure for 7/9.5 mm HDD SSD Support UASP Up to 6TB - 2189C3
ORICO 2.5'' HDD Enclosure USB C to SATA III 2.5inch 6Gbps High Speed HDD Enclosure for 7/9.5 mm HDD SSD Support UASP Up to 6TB - 2189C3

Pros: Pretty easy to insert a 7 or 9 mm drive. 2 foam pads are provided to keep the drive tight in the enclosure. Tested the transfer speed with several gigabytes of data with no problem. Very stable and no error.

Cons: Case looks cheaper than other Orico products I bought a couple years back. Seems to come from a dollar store. But i does the job.

Overall Review: Overall, considering the price, it is a good working investment.

Nice artist upgrade

Lenovo Active Pen GX80K32882
Lenovo Active Pen GX80K32882

Pros: Much more powerful than a usual static pen for drawing, hand writing, anything you would do with a pencil and a notepad.

Cons: Requires AAAA batteries, yes 4 As, not that easy to find. although they seem to last a loooong time.

Overall Review: Bought it for my wife's Lenovo 13 inch. 300e with touch screen. In a short time, she made beautiful drawings with it. She just loves it.

Nice small machine

Nice machine Chuwi HeroBox 2023: I bought this computer in quest of a multipurpose Linux machine. It's early days but I have not been deceived yet. The computer arrived in a nice box. I'm not a fan of Windows but Win 11 runs pretty well on this machine - at least for the time being. Windows has always been hungrier and hungrier for resources and I guess it will have eaten up all the 8 Gb RAM available within a couple of years and it will then become all but ususable. The story is quite different with Linux which makes this midget box very fast. My installed distro is MX-Linux 23.3 AHS, based on Debian 12, with the XFCE desktop. I can watch locally or stream 1080p videos without any problem and everything is very responsive. It seems like a much more powerful machine. Obviously I wouldn't expect it to be a gamer's dream machine. Technical: Intel n100 low power CPU does the job nicely and appears much faster than previous generations of Celerons or Pentiums. 8Gb fast DDR5-4500 memory is soldered on the board and cannot be upgraded. 256 Gb SSD (by AirDisk ????) is an "old fashioned" m.2 sata. I replaced it with a much faster 1 Tb NVMe which it supports very well. Some older HeroBox were fanless. Not this one. I would say the sound is present but not utterly disturbing. Wifi Intel AX101/201 worked out of the box. However Bluetooth required some manipulation of firmware to make it work in Linux. Everything else worked just as it should. There is room in the botton of the case for an additional 2.5 inch ssd. BIOS/UEFI access and boot menu are through the F7 key when you power-up. BIOS setup looks traditional and complete. Overall, I'm pretty satisfied with this purchase, especially since it was on sale at under $200 CAD. We'll see how it fares with time but for now I give it 2 thumbs up.
