Pros: - tremendous space
- build quality
- includes 2 hdd cages
- lots of optional includes
- the silence due to the sound dampening material
- airflow is still viable with silent walls using high power 140mm fans
Cons: - the price is a bit high, but this is apparently necessary for the warranty and build quality that you get
Overall Review: I heard good things about this case and had owned a Define R5 prior, moved to this new build. Works great, very silent and optimized, helps me work on my gamedev projects. Thanks a lot Fractal!
Pros: - wattage
Cons: - the sleeving of the motherboard cable could be fiber instead of plastic
Overall Review: This is a great psu for the price and options for modularity. Bought this to upgrade my current build.
Pros: - large capacity
- quality assurance
Cons: - price is a bit high but worth it for the warranty you get
Overall Review: This 14tb hdd works great. installed it in a new case that i bought along with a new psu.
Pros: great product, really easy to install and temperatures aren't too bad. the speed is fast, benchmarked at ~1.5GB/s
Cons: the drive gets slightly hot on sustained loads, but it lowers in temperature soon. make sure to have good cooling or consider a heatsink if doing heavy sustained workloads
Overall Review: it's a good product, seems best as a price per gb option.
cools 5960x to around 75 c at 4.4ghz 1.28v at roughly 85% load (when rendering)
Overall Review: i replaced the h105 sp120l fans with these sp120 high performance pwm fans and they are much better.
Pros: great board with nvme / u3.1 that i was able to use for a 5960x build that oced up to 4.4ghz/1.28v
Cons: i would have liked the color to be all black.. (no real cons)
Overall Review: x99 for the win with this board
Pros: good, affordable ram.
i have always used corsair for ram, so i was skeptical of g.skill as their market share is lower. after reading the other reviews and trying it out for myself i am confident it works well now.
in addition it also comes with a lifetime warranty, which gives peace of mind
enabled XMP support profile for 1866 MHz capability.
Cons: appearance is rather vivid in color
Pros: extremely low cost.
Cons: 5400 RPM drive speed.
Overall Review: pretty good drive - used this for storage for render nodes. each node has a 1tb at this cost it's a feasible and worthwhile option.
Pros: high max wattage.
Cons: not one far spaced outlet for special cases if needed
Overall Review: pretty good surge protector, have had no problems after about a year of use for my render farm nodes. a lot of power is drawn from the outlets in the surge protector and it's handled it fine for this time period.
Pros: good network cable, i am using this longer cable to connect my main pc area to my render farm switch.
Cons: not cat 6e
Overall Review: a pretty good cable, i would recommend it at the great price (2.49 when i purchased)
Pros: smaller factor
fits in 2u rack mounts
supplies enough power for a render node (in my case)
Cons: slightly higher cost
Overall Review: this is a good all around power supply unit that i got because of the low wattage, form factor, and so as not to trip a circuit breaker with the most amount of render nodes possible per power socket.
Pros: includes onboard graphics.
roughly similar to the well known 4790k in benchmarks.
very useful for render slave nodes when you want to do computer graphics rendering on a farm setup.
Cons: these processors are pretty good, no problems seen so far in almost a year of use
Overall Review: this is a good choice if you need some a good ecc supporting processor for a server or render farm setup.
Pros: Good memory for the price point, useful for situations where you need server memory but do not necessarily want to get 16 GB with 8x2. The savings in cost make this worth it, with the option to upgrade to 4x2 and 4x2 to a total of 4x4 gb (16 GB) with 4 dimm slots.
Cons: The memory series is a bit old, but the device functions well.
Pros: A good drive. I am using two of these 3tb WD drives for primary storage alongside a SSD for the C: drive. The drive. I have noticed that these drives are cost effective compared to black drives, so I chose these.
Cons: The drive RPM at 5400 is less than that of black drives, but the cost savings are significant. Only if doing very hard drive intensive work should the black drives be considered, in my opinion.
Pros: A good (unmanaged) switch. It is very easy to set up: simply connect an ethernet cable from port 1 to a router (which has a connection to the WAN internet), and connect computers to ports 2 onwards. The DHCP was automatically set if a router is used.
Cons: The switch that I received had no separate LED for connection and activity, but since they blink during activity it is all right.
Pros: A good router. Comes with an ethernet cable. The setup is simple, and worked quickly. Can have a switch directly connected to it and automatically configure the DHCP clients. The speed is also comparable to not having the router at all (with a direct connection from the cable box to the computer). Only during the initial stages of a setup was there any slowdown in speeds, which were undetectable afterwards. A great unit at a very competitive price.
Cons: One of the issues I found was that the MAC Address would not enter with the quick setup for cable, but this was automatically configured prior, so it was all right in the end.
Pros: Good fans for price, includes molex and the smaller board fan connectors.
Cons: The fans are the standard size and not slim, but this is only needed in special cases. The standard size 80mm fan still works well at the price point.
Pros: Great chassis, useful for a server / render farm setup. This case will only take micro atx, and although it has space for 4 drives will only fit 2 3.5" drives.
Cons: Some dis-assembly is required to install the fans / hard drives. This includes things like unscrewing housings and replacing grates, but is trivial in my opinion.
Pros: A good processor for the price point.
Cons: Does not include internal graphics support.
Pros: Great board for cost, used for a server farm setup. The board serves the purpose well for the price point and includes an optional graphics card. Make sure to purchase a CPU with a internal graphics processor -- because the onboard graphics on the board only work with this setup.
Cons: The board's heat plate near the cpu assembly was a little flimsy during install - ensure not to handle by this area. The board is solid overall apart from this.
Pros: Low Wattage, Useful for stacking on one outlet. Includes PCI extension for a graphics card if necessary.
Cons: The wattage - this can be amended by getting the corsair modular cx series if a higher wattage is desired. The noise is relatively low, but not 0 dB.
Overall Review: This is a good power supply. Purchased for the intent of usage in low wattage stacking on one outlet for a render farm, it serves that purpose well.
