Great, Cheap Drive!

LITE-ON Black 4X BD-ROM 8X DVD-ROM 32X CD-ROM SATA Internal 4X Blu-ray Reader Model iHOS104-06
LITE-ON Black 4X BD-ROM 8X DVD-ROM 32X CD-ROM SATA Internal 4X Blu-ray Reader Model iHOS104-06

Pros: Cheap, does the job it should. Did I mention it was cheap? Purchased as an upgrade for a HTPC.

Cons: Finding software that will play Blu-ray in 1080p is a nightmare. That was my biggest issue with this. I ended up using Power DVD DX (which comes with Dell machines). When I installed this drive a upgrade for the program became available which lets me play in 1080p. There is a plug-in for Media Center which fully integrates the program.

Overall Review: Buy this drive if you just need something to play blu-ray! Dell Optiplex 745 Core 2 Duo 2.0ghz 2gb RAM 250gb HD Blu-Ray

Good for adding SATA ports only

Rosewill RC-222 PCI Low Profile Ready SATA Controller Card
Rosewill RC-222 PCI Low Profile Ready SATA Controller Card

Pros: Great card for adding SATA ports to your machine if it does not have any or you have used all of your existing ones. Worked great with a 500gb RAID 1 configuration. See Cons regarding larger drives.

Cons: Would not work with Western Digital WD20EARS drives. This card would make my system unstable, requiring a reboot within a few hours. This problem would occur no matter how the drives were connected. It took purchasing a different RAID controller card to figure out that the card was in fact the problem, as I had nothing but success with a 500gb RAID.

Overall Review: I would not purchase this card again, as similar cards with SATA II speed don't really cost much more.

Stay away from Server 2008R2 with this!

SYBA SY-PCI40010 PCI SATA II (3.0 Gb/s) RAID Controller Card
SYBA SY-PCI40010 PCI SATA II (3.0 Gb/s) RAID Controller Card

Pros: Cheap, easily configurable SATA RAID card. The 3114 is a much better chip than the other SI one floating around. It handled my 2tb drives like a champ.

Cons: Doesn't work with Windows Server 2008R2. I have installed drivers from both the SYBA and Silicon Image websites. It purportedly supports this OS. While I can get the driver to load, I keep getting a error 10 in device management (Device cannot start). Card worked fine on my old server which was running Server 2008, 32 bit.

Overall Review: Great, cheap card. Worked great on my old server but I've moved on. Really didn't want to buy a new card but it looks like I'm going to need to.
