Great upgrade for NAS

G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) 204-Pin DDR3 SO-DIMM DDR3L 1866 (PC3L 14900) Laptop Memory Model F3-1866C11D-16GRSL
G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) 204-Pin DDR3 SO-DIMM DDR3L 1866 (PC3L 14900) Laptop Memory Model F3-1866C11D-16GRSL

Pros: I was looking for memory compatible with my Synology DS918+ NAS and this seemed to fit the bill. Although the NAS states it will only upgrade to 8 GB I installed this 16 GB with no problem.

Cons: No cons

Convenient Protection

Hyperkin Polygon HTC Vive / PlayStation VR / Gear VR / Oculus Rift VR Protector Bag
Hyperkin Polygon HTC Vive / PlayStation VR / Gear VR / Oculus Rift VR Protector Bag

Pros: This is a rugged bag that is a good replacement for the cases my equipment shipped with.

Cons: The bag is kind of small. I'm not sure what they expected to be stored in the bag but I had to really squeeze the headset inside of the compartment made for it. I also put in my oculus touch, xbox controller, and the remote. As I said, really cramped space

Great secondary drive

SAMSUNG 850 EVO M.2 2280 500GB SATA III 3D NAND Internal SSD Single Unit Version MZ-N5E500BW
SAMSUNG 850 EVO M.2 2280 500GB SATA III 3D NAND Internal SSD Single Unit Version MZ-N5E500BW

Pros: This is a very fast SSD and the best thing about it is the installation time! No cables to mess with, just one screw on the motherboard and it was complete.

Cons: The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because my C: drive is the 950 NVMe running on PCIe and I gave that 5 stars because it is blazingly fast!

Overall Review: Every new build for me from now on will have M.2 slots on the motherboard so I can quickly complete my build and have the fastest possible machine.

Great Product, not so easy to set up

SAMSUNG 950 PRO M.2 2280 512GB PCI-Express 3.0 x4 Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) MZ-V5P512BW
SAMSUNG 950 PRO M.2 2280 512GB PCI-Express 3.0 x4 Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) MZ-V5P512BW

Pros: I am using this as my boot drive and the SAMSUNG 850 EVO M.2 500GB SATA III 3-D Vertical Internal SSD as as secondary, my system boots within a couple of blinks of the eye and I love it. I dare not bypass the motherboard display screen because I would probably not be fast enough to get into the bios! The future is bright and when they begin producing 1TB and above of drives like this I will immediately pick some up! I still haven't loaded my favorite software so I know there are more software joys to come!

Cons: Set up is not for the faint of heart but at the same time, nothing worth doing is easy. To use this drive first I had to load the operating system on a regular HDD; then I had to update the motherboard Bios so it would recognize the NVMe drive; Next I had to use the Samsung data migration utility to transfer everything from the HDD to the NVMe drive and Voila, super fast booting times! I simplified this for all of you because actually there was some trial and error involved!

Overall Review: I have a pretty bare bones system so far: - 1 x GIGABYTE GA-Z170X-Gaming 6 (rev. 1.0) LGA 1151 Intel Z170 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.1 USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard - 1 x SAMSUNG 850 EVO M.2 500GB SATA III 3-D Vertical Internal SSD Single Unit Version MZ-N5E500BW - Generic DVD Burner (one that was lying around the house) - 1 x EVGA GeForce GTX 970 04G-P4-2974-KR 4GB SC GAMING w/ACX 2.0, Silent Cooling Graphics Card - 1 x Intel Core i7-6700 8M Skylake Quad-Core 3.4 GHz LGA 1151 65W BX80662I76700 Desktop Processor Intel HD Graphics 530 - 1 x CORSAIR Vengeance LPX 16GB (2 x 8GB) 288-Pin DDR4 SDRAM DDR4 2400 (PC4 19200) Memory Kit Model CMK16GX4M2A2400C14R - Hopefully soon my Oculus Rift will arrive....!

Zombie Board

GIGABYTE GA-Z170X-UD5 (rev. 1.0) LGA 1151 Intel Z170 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.1 USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard
GIGABYTE GA-Z170X-UD5 (rev. 1.0) LGA 1151 Intel Z170 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.1 USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard

Pros: Looks great! I was looking forward to filling the two M.2 connectors and having a fast booting system.

Cons: As some others have experienced, when I tried to boot my new system power came up for just a couple of seconds and then shutdown without anything displaying on the monitor. I removed all the components except for the CPU and tried to boot using the on-board graphics with the same results. I know the 650W power supply is good because I tested it with other components, I can't even get to the bios!

Overall Review: Hopefully when I send it back to Newegg I'll get a board that fulfills the dreams I had of an Oculus ready system that is faster than anything I've ever used!

Oh Well....

Pros: Well, the unit worked initially when I set up my HTPC with Windows 7 RC2. Had a good signal from about 40 feet away.

Cons: The radio portion of the wireless card died after I installed Vista x64. The card still came up in Windows Network Connections but the status was disabled. After trying for hours to figure out what was wrong I went to the Ralink site and found their latest RaUI utility to hopefully solve the problem. When I tried to turn the card's radio on/off using their utility I received the message "Switch Radio state fail". Basically the card is disabled and there is no way to re-enable it. Well it was good while it lasted but since the packaging ended up being thrown out with the trash I guess I'll go with another brand of wireless card now...
