Yet another access point...

Linksys N300+ Wireless Router with Gigabit Ports and Flexible Antennas for Optimal Wi-Fi Range and Performance (E1700-FFP)
Linksys N300+ Wireless Router with Gigabit Ports and Flexible Antennas for Optimal Wi-Fi Range and Performance (E1700-FFP)

Pros: I got it to replace a broken access point, and didn't feel like working through the potential dual-band compatibility issues of "faster" routers. I'm running it "Bridge Mode" to an existing gateway, and hanging a network printer and a Win 10 Tech Review PC on copper in addition to the access point. The setup software was easy to use and useful. The access point is fine for my phone data and voice over wireless, and other devices. After a month, still haven't had to reset it... Price is reasonable. I have it wall-mounted on its side to save space and better cooling.

Cons: There aren't any status lights other than the port lights in the back, not even for power. No reset or connect switch other than the factory reset, or pulling the power plug - very bare bones, but functional. Also, when I went to register it for warranty, the Linksys site didn't list this model in their drop-down, so I couldn't. Otherwise the router is fully supported on the Linksys site with firmware updates and management software.

Look for something else...

Nippon Labs ICR-BB-USB3 All-in-one USB & eSATA MUTIPLE Internal Memory Card Reader 3.5" All in one
Nippon Labs ICR-BB-USB3 All-in-one USB & eSATA MUTIPLE Internal Memory Card Reader 3.5" All in one

Pros: Cheap...

Cons: The guides for the memory chips lack any tactile feedback, and are very weak. Cards are hit the internal connector after only being around 1/3 inserted, so it's too late to realize you're pushing too hard - it's already broken. Mine broke on the very first attempt at inserting a SD card. The device requires the USB 3.0 plug to be used for power, so if you only have one USB 3.0 plug on your motherboard, without a "Y" connector, it will be used for this device.

Using in a Lorex Surveillance System...

WD Purple WD82PURZ 8TB 7200 RPM 256MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive
WD Purple WD82PURZ 8TB 7200 RPM 256MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: Swapped this drive into my Lorex system to add capacity... - drive is quiet - immediately recognized and used by the system - WD support and warranty system is really good

Cons: This drive is a replacement for one that was DOA due to a probable packing incident... - drive didn't ship in original WD box, it was bubble-wrapped and shipped in a NewEgg box

Overall Review: As noted earlier, this is a NewEgg replacement drive for one that arrived DOA. The original drive's ESD envelope had damage to one corner of it, and the drive wouldn't even spin up. Since the shipping box looked okay, I suspect the drive was dropped during packing, and sent anyway. NewEgg used to send drives that were packed in their original containers (negating this kind of handling) - it's concerning to me that they are now doing this. They did provide a free return shipping label, and the replacement arrived in a couple weeks - so that was pretty painless

High density storage in a standard format package...

Western Digital 18TB WD Gold Enterprise Class Internal Hard Drive - 7200 RPM Class, SATA 6 Gb/s, 512 MB Cache, 3.5" - WD181KRYZ
Western Digital 18TB WD Gold Enterprise Class Internal Hard Drive - 7200 RPM Class, SATA 6 Gb/s, 512 MB Cache, 3.5" - WD181KRYZ

Pros: These drives provide high density capacity in a standard 3.5 inch HDD footprint. The cost per T is around the same as lower capacity desktop drives. The MTBF indicates these drives should last many years. They are pretty quiet also...and run fairly cool.

Cons: Initial expense is a mouthful. Also, depending on your build, you may have to be creative in mounting these drives. The mount points are subtly different, and while the package fits into a standard 3.5 inch bay, they are twice the height as a typical 3.5 inch desktop drive. In my build, only two of the mount holes line up, but the friction of the fit is enough to keep them in place.

Overall Review: I have three of these striped into a single, ~50TB (useable) logical drive. Access is fast, and even when they are working, they aren't very loud. This build is up pretty much 24/7, as it's a media server for the household. I've been using WD drives for 15 years now, and found them very reliable. I have had a couple fail within the warranty periods, the replacement process is pretty quick, and in one case, the replacement came back double the capacity of the original - they replaced a 2T with a 4T (and that was 4.5 years into a 5 year warranty).

Bargain lighting, warm light...

SANSI 5W (40 Watts Equivalent) LED Light Bulbs, A15, 450lm, 3000K Warm White, E26 Base, Non-Dimmable, Beam Angle 180 Degree (6-Pack)

Pros: Inexpensive, instant on, warm color, lots of light. I'm using them as room lighting from a directional ceiling fixture.

Cons: None that I've found yet...

Overall Review: A good deal for inexpensive LED lighting...

It works...

StarTech ST1000SPEX2L PCI-Express x1 Gigabit NIC Server Adapter Network Card - Low Profile
StarTech ST1000SPEX2L PCI-Express x1 Gigabit NIC Server Adapter Network Card - Low Profile

Pros: Reasonable price and performance. Running it under the Win 10 Technical Review as the Intel motherboard drivers didn't work on an ASUS Maximus VII Hero motherboard.

Cons: None that I can find yet.

Overall Review: I used the normal profile blade that it came with for mounting in my standard case.

Great PSUs...

Corsair power supplies simply work, and come with a ton spare wiring harness making it really flexible for your builds. I've had a similar PSU running in another build for over 6 years, running 24x7 without even a glitch. I love the pouch that comes with the kit to store the extra harnesses!

Reliable cooling in a good kit...

I've used Noctua cooling systems in the past. The kits are complete, and they provide great cooling. It's important to integrate the kit into your build though. In each case, you'll need to verify and adjust your cabinet cooling to work with the CPU cooling to provide the best solution. I'm using the NH-U14S 140mm kit with a Gen 10 i9 processor in a build where the loads are due to media transcoding. These loads are over-clocking the chip to 5 GHz, using 175 watts, and the temps are still generally under 70 degrees C - which was my target. To get there I still needed to adjust one of the cabinet fans for better internal flow... The unit is really quiet, even at full flow. I've used this same kit on an i7 build 6 years ago, and it's still running strong - that box has run basically 24x7 as my home media server.

Simple but effective...

I had a dead laptop with a good SSD drive, so I decided to salvage it to make a jump drive. This case made the job easy-peasy... The drive is a bit thinner than a typical laptop platter drive, so I needed to shim it a bit to avoid it moving around much... Shipping was great, and no damage on arrival. It worked first...
