Chirping Sound5/10/2007 8:14:52 PM

Pros: Nice and fast and performance wise it works well.

Cons: The drive makes a loud chirping sound every so often, but all diagnostic tests say the drive is fine. Not sure what's going on with that, but it doesn't sound very good.

Overall Review: On a side note, I'm amazed some people still don't understand how manufacturers calculate hard drive space. Computers calculate gigabytes as 2^30 bytes (1,073,741,824 bytes). Manufacturers calculate gigabytes as 10^9 bytes (1,000,000,000 bytes). Take the ratio and you get approximately 1.073. For this 320GB hard drive, divide 320 by 1.073 and get 298.2GB - precisely the number windows shows as the capacity. There isn't "unusable" or "hidden" space on the drive. You can't compare 1000MB (base 10) to 1024MB (base 2). That comparison is only true for bytes, not megabytes - and the descrepency between capacity numbers is bytes.
