Fine Filter - Gets Everything

Silverstone FF143B 140mm Ultra Fine Fan Filter with Magnet (Black)
Silverstone FF143B 140mm Ultra Fine Fan Filter with Magnet (Black)

Pros: Very nice filter, I'm a smoker and these catch most of it, other filters didn't. The screen is so fine it's see-through, which makes it easy to see when it's getting clogged with dust. The magnetized frame works well and makes cleaning fast & easy, and with care should last for years.

Cons: On cases which use rubber grommets in enlarged holes to mount 120/140 mm fans, these won't work unless you cut the corners off (not recommended) or remove the grommets and screw the filters to the case/fan, which is what I did, so now I just remove the side panel and blow out the filters with compressed air.

Overall Review: I hope these last a long time, because they are pricey.

Great Reliability

Crucial M4 2.5" 128GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) CT128M4SSD2
Crucial M4 2.5" 128GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) CT128M4SSD2

Pros: I bought this drive for it's reputation as a reliable product, and I'm not disappointed. The SSD it replaced lasted only 15 days (rhymes with O.C.D. burntex for). This M4 has been very good, and the latest firmware is rock solid.

Cons: Not the fastest SSD out there by any means, but fast enough. I use it now for my game drive, all my games load very fast.

Overall Review: There are many cheaper drives available, some faster than the M4, but none with it's reputation for being bullet proof.

The Beast Rocks!

HyperX Beast 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3 2400 (PC3 19200) Desktop Memory Model KHX24C11T3K2/8X
HyperX Beast 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3 2400 (PC3 19200) Desktop Memory Model KHX24C11T3K2/8X

Pros: I don't know why others are having problems running stable at 2400, mine has run great since I installed it 8 months ago, with CPU overclocks from 4.2 to 4.9, using the same speed and timings (2400-11-13-13-30-2T). Using the XMP profile or manual settings, I never had any problems. Trying to go beyond 2400 requires looser timings/higher voltage, and overall performance stays about the same, so I run mine at 2400. With my i5-3570K CPU at 4500 & RAM at 2400, my system is faster than most stock i7s, and my latency is lower than all tested systems in the latest AIDA64 benchmark. Periodic Memtest86 runs show zero errors after many hours. This RAM makes Ivy Bridge a lot faster. The Beast rocks!

Cons: Not a legitimate con, but it won't overclock profitably over 2400 (it'll run faster but latency will suffer). For the very reasonable price I paid, it's all I expected and more.

Overall Review: I wish I'd gotten a 16 GB kit when RAM prices were lower. I'll probably just get another one of these kits and hope the two kits play nice together.

Great Case

Corsair Carbide Series 400R Graphite Grey and Black ATX Mid Tower Gaming Case
Corsair Carbide Series 400R Graphite Grey and Black ATX Mid Tower Gaming Case

Pros: After more than a year owning this case, everything still works. I have all the 3.5 bays populated with hard drives/SSDs, DVD burner and fan controller in 5.25 bays, a total of 10 fans (4 of them on the H100 radiator up top), and most of the expansion slots are full. Runs cool and quiet, no rattles or squeaks. Feels very solid and well built for this price point.

Cons: No real cons, but here's one small annoyance - the PSU filter on the bottom is hard to remove for cleaning once your system is wired up, as it slides out the back and you'll have to pull wires aside, and it's almost impossible to re-install it without turning the case on it's side to line it up.

Overall Review: Had my system apart for upgrades and cleaning many times, no problems at all with stripped screws or broken plastic tabs - this is a well-built case.

Sweet Monitor

Acer UM.VS1AA.B01 S231HLBbid 23" 1920 x 1080 60 Hz D-Sub, DVI, HDMI LCD Monitor
Acer UM.VS1AA.B01 S231HLBbid 23" 1920 x 1080 60 Hz D-Sub, DVI, HDMI LCD Monitor

Pros: I've been using this display for about 2 years without any problems. It has a great picture quality for the price, and full connectivity. It even comes with all 3 video cables. I would definitely buy another of these, and recommend it to anyone who's tired of the limited real estate on their 17 or 19 inch monitor. It's nice to have two windows open side-by-side and still be able to see everything clearly.

Cons: None

Overall Review: I use it for gaming at 1920x1080 with a GTX 660 Ti, i5-3570K, and 2400 MHz RAM. It has never let me down, and still looks just as good as the day I bought it

Get Two Of These!

Intel Core i5-3570K - Core i5 3rd Gen Ivy Bridge Quad-Core 3.4GHz (3.8GHz Turbo) LGA 1155 77W Intel HD Graphics 4000 Desktop Processor - BX80637I53570K
Intel Core i5-3570K - Core i5 3rd Gen Ivy Bridge Quad-Core 3.4GHz (3.8GHz Turbo) LGA 1155 77W Intel HD Graphics 4000 Desktop Processor - BX80637I53570K

Pros: 13 month review update - I said a year ago that this CPU is the "sweet spot", and nothing has happened to make me change my mind. The new "Heatwell" processors are a tiny bit faster at stock speeds, but most of them don't overclock as well as this one, and the ones that do run way too hot. I'll keep my 3570K, thank you - it runs cool and stable at 4.5 GHz, amazingly fast with 2400 MHz RAM. With these speeds it runs right next to a stock clocked 3770K.

Cons: The only fly in the ointment is the TIM used between the die and heat spreader, it doesn't dissipate heat as well as the Sandy Bridge CPUs (which have the spreader soldered on). Many have gone the de-lidding route, which voids your warranty but can drop temps by 20c.

Overall Review: I've had mine clocked at 4.9 GHz long enough to run the Intel XTU benchmark and my system was ranked 3rd among i5-3570ks and 19th worldwide in XTU unlimited class (long since surpassed but still impressive).
