A few issues

Foxconn SFF R10-A1 AMD A45 (Hudson D1) 1 x HDMI Barebone
Foxconn SFF R10-A1 AMD A45 (Hudson D1) 1 x HDMI Barebone

Pros: Small form factor with quiet fan. HDMI and DVI on board. Using as DVR for secondary TV, works well for that purpose.

Cons: SATA cables included are too short. Neither cable reaches to the back of a DVD drive, longer cable is stretched tight to reach hard drive. Driver disk has useless graphical menu program. Has to be used since the individual driver directories on the CD are not well labeled. Cannot get into the BIOS setup when using a usb keyboard, need to use a PS/2. No feet included for bottom of case when used in horizontal orientation.

Overall Review: Probably not a good choice for your primary HTPC. Noticeable lag trying to use the live TV rewind feature in WMC while also recording another channel. Works great as playing back recordings stored on other machines or watching live TV. Can record, but if you want to watch that recording on another computer recommend copying it to that machine when this one isn't being used for anything else.

Most Critical Review

Too many minor flaws

APEVIA X-QPACK-NW-BK/420 Black Aluminum 1.0 w/ ABS plastic front panel Micro ATX Desktop Computer Case 420W Power Supply
APEVIA X-QPACK-NW-BK/420 Black Aluminum 1.0 w/ ABS plastic front panel Micro ATX Desktop Computer Case 420W Power Supply

Pros: Looks good. Makes a nice HTPC case. Slide-out motherboard tray. Roomy for such a small case. 120mm System fan Removable carrier for 3.5" drives. Sturdy case when assembled.

Cons: !20mm fan lacks connector for motherboard header Power supply has 1 SATA, 4 Molex and 2 floppy connectors. 20 pin section of 20+4 connector does not lock the 4-pin section in place. Front screw holding down drive carrier in awkward location to reinsert. Only documentation included with case is a small folded "addendum", which instructs you to release four plastic clips to remove front panel. It does not tell you two remove four screws first, two of which require removing the drive carrier. One of those grounds the front display panel to the chassis. Power supply is shorter than most ATX models. A standard size power supply will fit, but will reduce the depth of the 5.25" bays. Needed to fix the header connector for the power switch - one of the pins was not crimped properly.

Overall Review: If this case was about two inches deeper, it could fit a full size power supply AND full depth drive bays. It's rigid enough when completely assembled, but disassembled the drive carrier. motherboard tray, and case cover are a little too flexible. The metal fingers on the I/O shield actually push the back of the tray out of vertical unless the tray is installed in the case and secured with screws. Despite the flaws, I'll probably buy another if I decide to add a DVR PC to my downstairs TV.

Adaquate bracket

iStarUSA RP-HDD35V2 3.5" HDD to 5.25" Bay Mounting Bracket
iStarUSA RP-HDD35V2 3.5" HDD to 5.25" Bay Mounting Bracket

Pros: Holds hard drive. Free after rebate. Does not require welding the hard drive to the bracket.

Cons: Mounting a hard drive in this bracket does not increase the drive's capacity. Does not increase the speed of a standard hard disk to match the performance of a SSD.

Overall Review: None of the comments in this review are any more ridiculous than sending me an e-mail requesting a review of a drive bracket.

Poor quality

10-in-1 Pocket Multi-Tool
10-in-1 Pocket Multi-Tool

Pros: Useful selection of tools.

Cons: Blades do not stay closed. There were a bit loose from the start, but after less than six months the blades just flip open

Underpowered and minimally functional

Intel Ultra-slim PC Compute Stick Intel Atom Z3735F (1.33 GHz) 1 GB DDR3L 8 GB eMMC Ubuntu 14.04 LTS 64-Bit
Intel Ultra-slim PC Compute Stick Intel Atom Z3735F (1.33 GHz) 1 GB DDR3L 8 GB eMMC Ubuntu 14.04 LTS 64-Bit

Pros: Was on special for less than half price. Power supply is delivered via MicroUSB (2A required) Connects to monitor via HDMI port. Pre-installed Ubuntu has web browser and apparently some version of Libre/Open Office installed. This appears to be the only intended uses for this model.

Cons: Single USB port. I know that's dictated by the form factor but two ports would be so much more useful. Slow. Likely due to the 1GB of RAM, since I've seen the Windows Compute Sticks with an Atom processor and 2GB, and the extra memory makes a huge difference. Included Ubuntu 14.04LTS is a poor choice for the limited memory. Online search returned numerous reports of WLAN driver problems when trying to install any other Linux distribution - even Ubuntu derivatives like Mint.

Overall Review: I'll admit to not liking default Ubuntu, and trying to get this to work just reinforces my low opinion of it. Tried to install NFS support - it's not in the GUI software manager, and apt-get seems particularly broken out of the box. I COULD fix it, but Canonical/Ubuntu has the same "We're know what's best and are going to protect you from yourself" vibe that Microsoft Windows does, and I'm not going to fight with the distribution. If you want the small form factor/portability features buy the Windows version - much better specs and performance. If I can get another distribution to load without major problems I may change this review - though ultimately it did not work as expected out of the box, so the low rating is justified.

Items took 11 days to arrive Improperly packaged. Nothing damaged, but no precautions to prevent the lights from turning on in transit. Four of the five arrived either very dim or completely drained.
