Beautiful/solid case design

LIAN LI PC-9F Black Aluminum ATX Mid Tower Computer Case
LIAN LI PC-9F Black Aluminum ATX Mid Tower Computer Case

Pros: Every 3 years I buy a new computer, on a cycle - so this time it's my wife's pc, next time will be my own pc. Now that I own two Lian Li cases, I doubt I'll ever need another case for us. These cases are designed to fit practically any motherboard - at least it seems that way. Plenty of standoffs for supports, plenty of room for expansion and alternate configurations. Very light cases. The rubber washers for the drives are brilliant - makes for a snug, quiet fit. I don't see any 'bulging' or bowing with the case - you need to give the cable routing some thought - not everything should be or needs to be forced behind the motherboard. Even with all the cases I've wired up before, I still found myself unplugging again and rerouting cords to make for a more efficient/better fit. The drive case locking mechanism is simplistic and efficient. I like that a lot.

Cons: The aluminum for this case has sharper edges to the sides - this might be an issue as they use thumbscrews, so while screwing/unscrewing your fingers brush up against the sharp edges. I'm not sure for what or when I would use the top mounted SATA port - I thought it was a USB 2.0 port. You may need help installing the mainboard into this case, as the back faceplate sticks a bit when trying to screw the mainboard in place.

Overall Review: As far as 'fingerprints' go - wash your hands, make sure they are dry, and who really puts hand prints or fingers on the case all that often? These cases aren't intended for hauling around to LAN parties or the beach. They are aluminum and can be damaged by too much force or impacts - they are a professional looking work of art that belongs near your desk, and requires the slightest care when working inside to keep them in good shape. Always carry the case on the long sides - not the front and back. The front bezel should only ever need to be removed in order to clean the fan dust liners - and depending on how clean your home/office is that should not need to be done very often (I'd guess every 3-6 months for where I live - with hard wood floors).

Maybe a bad batch?

ASUS Black Blu-Ray Burner SATA BW-16D1HT
ASUS Black Blu-Ray Burner SATA BW-16D1HT

Pros: 16X bluray - Sata, black, matches everything else in the case, nifty blue activity light.

Cons: Reads approximately 75% of my DVD collection and reads all blurays. Oddly enough, the prior model BW-12 is a much better product. The BW-12 reads every disc I put into it - the BW-16 reads 'most' but not all.

Overall Review: BluRay playback software would have been great as that is $60+ to buy separately. The included software for these drives sucks - you'd be better off downloading CladDVD, DVDShrink, DVDFab, WinX DVD Ripper, Freemake, etc etc - any decent BluRay Playback software will run you a lot of cash, but for just ripping blurays or reading/writing files and discs it works fine when it can recognize a disc is in it.

Does the job - speed varies greatly

Seagate Desktop HDD ST3000DM001 3TB 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: Large storage capacity in small physical footprint - quiet

Cons: Sometimes when copying between devices the speed is 13MB/sec - other times it is instataneous to copy 4GB+ files. Very strange performance in real-world situations.

Still alive and kicking after 6 years...

CORSAIR Flash Voyager GT 2GB Flash Drive (USB2.0 Portable) 256bit AES Encryption Model CMFUSB2.0-2GBGT

Pros: This drive just won't die. Have been using it since day 1 as a readyboost drive - always on, always connected to windows, just upgraded the pc, and any speed issues with this were resolved with a simple full reformat and it's back to new quality. Remarkable product from Corsair.

Cons: Too bad it's discontinued but then with USB3 drives out now, this is rather slow by comparisson.

Pros: Excellent performance and benchmarks - was a 'snap' to install.

Cons: If you need to unravel the fan cord for the cpu, be sure it doesn't impede the fan movement.

Crucial Ballistix Sport 8GB DDR3L 1600 (PC3L 12800) Low Profile Desktop Memory Model BLS8G3D1609ES2LX0

Pros: Very good performance even at stock 1600 speeds. Next best ram to GSkill Trident, at a lower cost.

Cons: Mainboard only supports 32GB of this. :( I wish it could handle more dimms!

Overall Review: Extremely pleased with this ram - the low profile and low voltage requirements make it a very smart deal.

Late Delivery

Ordered 8/8 - tracking number on newegg refers to FedEx, but SoCal Trade sent USPS. I paid for expedited shipping and USPS says they shipped on the 10th via First-Class mail - "Delivery is in 3 days or less." - item hasn't arrived, so basically I won't get this til long-overdue. No longer see any need to pay extra for slower than standard delivery.
