Affordable and Fast with Upgrade Potential!
Pros: While right out of the box this notebook is very fast, there is plenty of room for upgrades to beef it up more if needed! 8GB of Kingston DDR4 2133 260-Pin installed. The 2 RAM slots will support up to 32GB RAM. Since it has Windows 10 Home 64-Bit, 32GB of RAM will be recognized by the OS if using two 16GB bars of RAM. 2.4MHz and 5.8MHz wireless capability, 802.11ac with MU-MIMO technology. While not everyone may have a MU-MIMO router yet, this feature assures that when you do get one you will be able to utilize this feature. LAN jack supports 10/100/1000Mbps for those that prefer to be hardwired, or when wireless is not available. Built in Bluetooth 4.1, which is also backwards compatible with older Bluetooth devices. Some bloatware, and this notebook can always be wiped and loaded with Win 10 from scratch. Or just sort through all the extra programs and remove what you do not want. Just be sure to utilize the Acer Recovery Management program first to create a Factory Default Backup on a USB stick in case you want to go back to the Acer Factory Image. Even if you choose not to remove the extra programs, there is still plenty of space on the SSD drive to install a few of your favorite games to maximize the speed/performance of your game play. After running disk cleanup and removing some programs I still have 97GB free on the SSD. For heavy graphic dependent games you can tweak out the NVidia GTX 950M 2GB video with the NVidia control panel! The 128GB SSD drive is a Form Factor M.2 2280 by LITEON model # CV1-8B128 with Sequential Read/Write speeds of 520/160 MB/s. While it is a fast SSD drive it can always be upgraded to something that has a larger capacity and a much faster read/write rate. Just be sure that whatever you replace it with is the same form factor or you will have problems! ALWAYS do your homework before attempting any upgrade! While the 1TB drive is only 5400RPM it will produce less heat than a faster platter drive. It can also be upgraded to an SSD drive for increased performance since it has an SATA interface. The 1TB drive is a Seagate model# ST1000LM024 HN-M101MBB/AC2 with 8MB Cache.
Cons: For what it offers in this price range I really could not find any cons that are worth mentioning!
Overall Review: Give some of the Acer Apps a try, some are very good! For instance, Acer Quick Access allows you to charge a device on a designated USB port even if the notebook is off or in hibernate mode. Bluelight Shield reduces screen bluelight to help protect your eyes. Acer even gives you cloud space for your data if your into those kind of storage options. For the price this notebook gives you some bang for the buck! And as I mentioned there are few upgrade options to increase the overall performance and speed! Latest system bios firmware is version 1.12 released on 08/23/2016
Works Fine After A Forced Firmware Update!
Pros: Works great once the firmware is updated! See what I wrote under CONS on how to fix the Emergency Mode issue, it’s fairly simple for this unit if it’s only the firmware that needs updating! I tested this unit on a fully updated Windows 7 system with SMB2 Protocol enabled in the Link Station. The User Interface is very easy to use, with most options to make changes being as simple as a click to turn features on and off once they are set up. Under the Services Tab you must enable what you plan on using, as they are off by default. Once the DLNA Server was enabled, videos that I had uploaded to the shared folder were readily available to all my DLNA TV sets and devices within my home network. Streaming works perfectly with no stuttering or lag. Make sure you have DLNA turned on for the folder you have your videos in. The Web Access User interface through a browser works great. Web Access Setup is not very difficult. You can set it up for your home network so that you can access the Link Station from anywhere. I tested access with a browser and it worked fine with a Windows Phone, and an Android Tablet. I could view, download and upload through the browser interface which was quick to load on the home network or through DSL from elsewhere with both Firefox and IE. Right clicking on folders/files while using browser gives drop down list of options, very simple to use. Remember to set port forwarding up in your router if you use this feature outside of your home network! When a USB memory stick or portable drive is connected, you have the options to format the device with XFS, ext3, or Fat 32 (depending on the size) with an option to select GPT partitions. The USB drive can then be shared and mapped along with whatever other hard drives you may have installed in the unit, everything here worked great. Nice feature for portable drives as you can plug in and transfer whatever you like, then simply unplug and take with you. Transfer rate with files using an FTP program within my home network gives a fluctuating speed from 200mbps to 300mbps when uploading to the shared folders, when downloading with an FTP program I have speeds around 700mbps down. Transfer rates when the drives are mapped is a lot slower at 20mbps to 40mbps for uploading and a slightly increased speed when downloading back to my machine. The Android Smart Phone Navigator App works as it should, you can run the entire setup process of the Link Station just by using this App, and it will allow you to change or modify any of your settings from a remote location if need be. I tested this on my tablet running ICS 4.1.
Cons: First try at setting up I ran the software and it showed the unit in Emergency Mode! The supplied Link Navigator software would not let me see what version of firmware was installed because of being in Emergency Mode. There is a fairly simple solution for this problem if you go to Buffalo’s site and click on the Forums Tab, then go to the Storage thread, there you will find detailed instructions under ”FAQ (2 of 5): Force Firmware update procedure”. Follow the instructions under the Newer Models section. A simple modification to the “LSUpdater.ini” file took care of the problem in my case, and I was then able to view the firmware version which was version 1.01-0.53. I was then able to update to the newer version of firmware which is 1.11-0.68. After this forced update everything worked fine. While using FTP programs is fast to transfer files, there appears to be a bug, once the files have been uploaded through an FTP program, they will not show the correct size in any FTP program, and I tried several, but if you use your mapped drive link, the correct file size is shown. This appears to happen with any file that is over 4 GB. This may be something I am doing wrong, or a minor problem, so I contacted Buffalo Tech support, asking for help about this problem with the FTP programs showing incorrect file size on uploaded files over 4gb. I sent a request through their web site, and received a generic message that they had received my email and would get back to me. I also sent an email to the rep that has posted responses in this feedback section with the same questions. That was 8 days ago, and I still have not heard back from either of them. I understand that sometimes tech support can be overwhelmed, but it’s kind of ridiculous that so much time has passed with no response. Do not expect to get a reply in a timely manner through email support if you have any problems.
Overall Review: Like I mentioned before, the unit does work great once the updated firmware is installed, but the troubleshooting you must do to correct the firmware issue just to get the unit working is not worth the trouble, especially when someone purchased it because they NEED it now. Maybe on future units they will have updated this firmware before they ship them out. People expect products to work out of the box; they should not be expected to force a firmware update just to make the device work. Some users may be intimidated by this and skip over this product because of this problem. If you receive one of these units with the old firmware, and you don't mind attempting the update yourself, EXPECT to do some reading on how to force the firmware update just to get the unit working properly! It will work fine with the newest version installed. My rating of three eggs is due to the firmware issue out of the box, and also for the lack of tech support that they advertise. I tried two different ways to contact them, and have heard nothing for 8 days! Warranty on Newegg for this Link Station shows a 1 year, but on Buffalo’s site it shows up as a 3 year warranty? Clarification on what the actual warranty is would be nice on this, maybe just a mistake?.
Excellent simple nose hair trimmer!
Pros: Does not pull or tickle my nose like other brands I have tried. Decent grip for the hand and feels balanced. Both heads are washable, and it was simple to clean them by just running them briefly under water while turning it on for a few seconds. Just let it air dry after that for a bit and your good to go! And with the price these are great to keep one in your glove box or at work for a quick mow down if needed before the big meeting or a date on the fly. The lithium battery ensures full power when its needed, and you will not have to worry about battery leakage ruining the contacts. So be sure to always use a lithium battery in these to ensure problem free trimming when needed! The eyebrow trimmer works, but the two trim heads really leave the brows short. The Short trims them to 3mm (1/8) and the Long is 5mm (13/64). I used the 5mm and even though its the longer trim head, I felt that it really left my brows on the short side. The short trim head at 3mm might leave them almost non-existent and you will have to break out a sharpie for a touch up!
Cons: The brow trimmer heads seem to be on the short side.
Overall Review: Norelco has a few lines in the trimming products they offer. Many different kits to choose from depending on your needs and budget so check them out if you need a body or groom trimming kit. While I have been using the Norelco 7000 now for 6 months and love it, this 3000 series nose hair trimmer will be added to my arsenal of nose hair needs!
MAX Speed Go 4 It!
Pros: Impressive beefy heat sink ensures excellent heat dissipation and looks great! Machines that utilize the speed of this drive with your OS installed will increase your boot rate times along with loading programs/games more quickly. For testing I cloned my OS over to this drive and it definitely increased my overall speeds compared to my previous drive! The PCIe Gen 4 NVMe standard doubles the speed compared to previous versions of PCIe Gen 3 NVMe. Just make sure your board supports it if you want to get the full speed out of this drive. The Corsair MP600 PRO XT is backwards compatible with PCIe Gen 3.0 NVMe but will only give you half the rated speed. So, if you are still running a motherboard with PCIe Gen 3.0 NVMe and need to upgrade your current storage this drive will work fine and can be swapped over when you upgrade to a newer mother board. Verified by testing on a spare Gen 3 machine. If your motherboard has integrated M.2 NVMe heat-sinks that are removable and you are confident in your boards cooling capacity you can remove the preinstalled heat sink and install the drive utilizing your boards existing M.2 heat sink. Corsair provides a link on their product information page with detailed instructions for how to remove the preinstalled heat sink. Which they state will not void your warranty unless the components are damaged!
Cons: Some boards with multiple M.2 2280 slots may not be able to use the preinstalled heat sink if the GPU is directly over one of the slots. But this is easily remedied by moving the drive to another free slot.
Overall Review: An excellent choice and good price if you have a newer board that fully supports PCIe 4.0x4 NVMe! 5-year warranty! Current Firmware is EIFM31.4 out of the box no update was needed when checked with Corsair SSD toolbox at the time of my install.
Decent Basic Starter Kit!
Overall Review: If you have ever been curious about how locks work this is a decent starter kit. First you need to understand how each piece is used for specific types of locks, then use the appropriate tool and practice! There are plenty of YouTube videos to get you started on the basic understanding of how to use these tools. After watching a couple videos, I had no problem with unlocking a few of my deadbolt locks throughout the home with this kit!
Excellent RGB Memory!
Pros: Compared to the Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro memory which I was using, this RGB RT memory appears brighter and sharper. This is because the width of the plastic diffuser on top is slightly wider than the Pro version which provides greater illumination and viewing from any angle. There definitely is a noticeable difference with this new design by Corsair. Nice clean lines, and perfect colors! The 10 LEDS on each bar can be setup in just about any configuration you can think of using the ICue software. Dual tone anodized aluminum heat-sink modules will be more than capable of staying cool under heavy workloads. While it is AMD optimized, it can also be used with Intel 300 Series, Intel 400 Series, Intel 500 Series boards. This was a great upgrade to my MSI Z490 board! When I first installed the memory bars iCue did not recognize them in the control panel. This was because I was running an outdated version of ICue, so be sure to get the latest version which is currently version 4.16.194. Besides coming in black they also have a gunmetal version so depending on the color scheme of your build you have two options. The RGB RT memory is available in a few different speed options and RAM sizes to fit your budget!
Overall Review: Great especially if you are using other Corsair gear in your system! Be sure to enable XMP in your system bios to utilize the full speed this RAM offers or your system will run the memory at the default slower speed!
I ordered 2 Syma X5C Quad Copters and they arrived in perfect condition. They were wrapped with bubble wrap, and secured in a sealed plastic shipping envelope. Only took 11 days to arrive from China, very impressive! Buy with confidence from this seller. I highly recommend them! Just remember they are shipping from China and may take a few weeks to arrive, but you will be very pleased with their service! Just be patient, its well worth the wait!
