nice card but fan is loud

Pros: - Nice card, at least as long as it was usable (see below) - Comes with power adapter and DVI to vga adapter. It does take up a couple of slots but you should expect that anyway; however, it was not too long (about 9 inches, I think) to interfer with SATA ports, etc, on the motherboard. - EVGA tech support is great once you get to the 2nd level.
Cons: Fan is loud and speed cannot be adjusted through software according to EVGA tech support. Mine was stuck at 65% at around 40 degrees. I never got the chance to see if it would speed up with higher temps. Might try to hook it up to a speed controller when I get the card back from RMA.
Overall Review: Don't try flashing the bios with the 1150 update in the evga tech forums ... it will brick the card. (another admission by tech support). Read that to fix the fan issue, flash the bios with iso on the forum that was provided by someone in tech support. Apparently, it was not for ALL GTS 250's but they failed to say that. I contacted evga tech and they confirmed that it would brick the card and it would have to be RAM'd. They said something about the HD versions not having adjustable fans for some reason, which doesn't make sense ... I'm taking away 1 egg for the fan speed design, another egg for the misleading info in there forums by EVGA and giving on egg back for the 2nd level tech support and RMA process, even though it's going to take a couple of weeks.
Save your money

Pros: I purchased the black version from NE but it's the same as this one, I think. It works, kind of. In this case, you get less than what you pay for however it does handle "20w" per channel. I've had it hooked up to a 120mm Sharkoon 2000, Gentle Typhoon, Yate Loons etc with no problems.
Cons: - cheap construction - jumper cables poorly assembled...some wires not soldered. - very little adjustment for fan speeds. I had to turn almost 1/2 way to get any power and then the slightest additional turn and it goes to full power. - no rpm monitoring cables - but I knew that.
Overall Review: I got this just to see whether I would actually use a fan speed controller and this served that purpose but that's about it. I also wanted to monitor my fan's rpms so I figured out how hook up an additional rpm sensor cable and that works fine. Based on the above it did serve my purpose to find out if I would need or use fan controllers. Now I just have to do some research; however, I will probably not consider Lamptron for a future product.

Pros: I got this for a P4 3.0, then put on a P-D 2.8 and then a Core 2 duo E6600. Of course I used Artic silver to start with and temps stayed pretty low. Last month I bought a P55 1156 board with a i5-750 cpu but was kind of leary about putting this on it (didn't know if it would cool good enough) so I used the stock Intel cooler (actually had no choice because the mounting pattern for an 1156 is different than 775, just by a couple of hairs). I was getting idle temps around the mid 40's even though I've got a NZXT M-59 case with plenty of vents and 4-120 mm fans so I decided to try this one. (hey, I spent the money and it was still "brand new") After getting the proper bracket and installing it, my temps dropped down to the mid 30's on idle but the fan still spins at about 1500 rpm and is noticable but when I start up a game, it maxes out and is pretty loud, actually louder than my other fans combined
Cons: It's kind of a PITA to install - have to be carefull not to bend the fins or get cut by them but after doing it 3 or 4 times, you'll get the hang of it. Fan does get noisey when running full tilt.
Overall Review: Overall, it worked okay on the i5-750 but I wanted something to handle minor overclocking so I got a Scythe Mugen 2 and I'll use this back with my e6600 setup. It looks big but it fit in my M59 (7 1/2" wide) case comfortably, even with the side case fan. I also have a 120mm fan pulling air over it so I'm sure that helped. Also, I was impressed with the finish on the heat sync - shiney, polished copper - definitely a quality product.
Might be a good fan but ....

Pros: This is probably a good fan. Seems to move a lot of air at high rpm and a fair amount at about 50%. I've got it on the back end of my Scythe Mugen 2 CPU i5-750 cooler and my temps run in the low 30's at idle ... maybe mid to high 30's in games where before the stock fan ran mid to high 30s at idle.
Cons: Does have a high pitched whine/buzz at high speeds but that may be because the envelope the fan was shipped in got crushed in transit. Fan still works so is not worth the return shipping ... I'll use it at work ... but the whine is annoying, even with headphones on.
Overall Review: I've got to take an Egg off for shipping the fan in an envelope instead of a box. I finally replaced it with a Sharkoon ... whoosh is better than whine.
775 to 1156 - It's a breeze!

Overall Review: I do like Zalman products but I broke down and got a Scythe Mugen 2 for this setup from another provider cuz NE didn't have it and it's a beast but not much bigger than the Zalman though. However, I'll still use it for my E6600 and Intel m/b build when I find another case.
Best board for general use

Pros: IMHO, this board has it all and for a lot less than the GA-P55A-UD6 (but I’d probably get that if money wasn’t a constraint). It does require a high end video card but if that’s not a concern for you then you might want to consider the H55 or H57 series which have a decent onboard video chip. If you’re looking for RAID, of those 2 get the H57. Confused? See my link below to Gigabytes site for easy comparison unless NewEgg deletes it. If that’s the case, just go to gigabytes site and click on Products, then socket 1156 or whatever. I haven't purchased this board yet ... just waiting for a good deal ... but after reading reviews on anantech, techreport, occ, hardwaresecrets, etc., it looks like it's going to give me the best bang for my buck.
Cons: As mentioned before, you can either run dual video or have access to USB 3.0 and SATA 6 but not both at the same time … unless maybe you add additional cards? Also, only has Crossfire support, no SLI? Maybe not that big a deal for most but for the SLI seeker … sorry.
Overall Review: The link for Gigabyte’s Product Comparison page is http://www.gigabyte-usa.com/Products/Motherboard/Products_ComparisonSheet.aspx You can easily select their socket 1156 and 1366 boards, as well as others, to compare. You can go to your specific board from there and get the latest bios updates (this board has 3, two of which deal with memory) drivers, etc. I would also recommend that you use their memory support page to find the recommended memory for your board. That may eliminate future headaches. My system, as it stands right now is going to be: NZXT M59 Case Corsair HX620W Modular PSU GA-P55A-UD3P Core i5-750 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 1333 (PC3 10600) – Corsair, Geil, G.Skill or Kingston 1 - Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 80Gb, SATA (for O/S - SSD drive in future) 4 – Seagate ES ST3500630NS 500-Gb SATA 3.0 (RAID) XFX GeForce 8800 GT (current card) CDRW/DVDROM (?)
