Solid Mid-Tier Z690 Motherboard

MSI PRO Z690-A DDR4 LGA 1700 Intel Z690 SATA 6Gb/s ATX Intel Motherboard
MSI PRO Z690-A DDR4 LGA 1700 Intel Z690 SATA 6Gb/s ATX Intel Motherboard

Pros: Extended Heatsink M.2 SHIELD FROZR Heatsink EZ M.2 clip - Really appreciated this design Same PCB and power safety features as the higher tiered boards Compatible with oversized CPU coolers like noctua

Cons: No thunderbolt Early adopter bios versions

Overall Review: First time ever using MSI, no troubles with it so far. I am already a fan of the product design, as I got this board because I like the extended heat-sinks feature. I believe that the VRM power delivery phases and design is great- especially for a budget board. Very thoughtful placements of all the heat sinks, and the m2 slots. I made sure it was compatible with the NH-D15 before purchasing. If you have the Ethernet only version like me, make sure you load the Ethernet Adapter I225-V driver on a USB and install it during windows 11 installation. Similar thing applies for Linux. As a beginner into the PC building and overclocking world, I find MSI's community and Bios features to be ample. Being renowned for their afterburner software, I had to see first hand how their products are. I am satisfied with the bios updates so far, as it's still the early stages for 12th gen support, it's as good as it gets. The intuitive guidelines in their interface is easy enough for me to navigate through and understand. I feel that this MSI Pro series board meets my expectations. The new z690 board is well designed, and really shines in heat dissipation, power delivery, and overclocking support. The one weakness I can see is there's only one USB-C port. There's also no thunderbolt. I will update this review in a few weeks after I use it for longer. This review is for the MSI Review Rebate Program

G.SKILL Ripjaws V Series 32GB (2 x 16GB) 288-Pin PC RAM DDR4 3200 (PC4 25600) Desktop Memory Model F4-3200C16D-32GVK

Pros: Works right away, xmp 1 ready. As described, runs at 3200 with Timing 16-18-18-38 CAS Latency 16 Voltage 1.35V Passed memtest

Cons: Really limited in overclocking Hynix chip

Overall Review: I'd recommend the product, especially for beginners like me, this is a solid budget ram-- if it's on sale. I think that the company puts out high quality stuff. Most of the defects are from the actual chips themselves most likely, which aren't made by them. I actually built my pc and found out I had to take out the ram to get the serial numbers on there to register on the gskill site.. (cpuz and other software shows 00000, so must check the label on the ram itself) So make sure to take a picture of your ram or register before you begin your build. Haven't had problems running at the rated speed. Overclocking hasn't worked for me. I am happy this ram overall.
