Good Budget RAM!

Team Elite Plus 8GB DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model TPD38G1600HC1101
Team Elite Plus 8GB DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model TPD38G1600HC1101

Pros: I've built more machines than I can count and sometimes you gotta cut corners wherever you can. I generally only use RAM from a couple manufacturers, but I took a chance on this for a budget build. Ran all the required memory tests and it passed with flying colors. It's been in the box and running for over a month, no problems.

Cons: Mila Kunis did not hand-deliver this in a skimpy UPS uniform.

Great AIO

CORSAIR Hydro Series H100i Extreme Performance Water/Liquid CPU Cooler. 240mm
CORSAIR Hydro Series H100i Extreme Performance Water/Liquid CPU Cooler. 240mm

Pros: This has kept an i5-3570k OC'd to 4.7 @ 1.28v below 74°C on any core under full load. Only p95 gets it so (unnecessarily) hot. Temps are easily managed running Aida or gaming. No fan noise, no leaks, no problems of any kind after 26 months. Great little piece of gear! Nice RGB Corsair logo you can adjust to match your rig.

Cons: None

Overall Review: I never meant to be a Corsair fanboy, but every product I've ever purchased from them has been outstanding. What can you do?

Replaced Stock 200mm fan in Corsair 650D

BitFenix Spectre Pro LED Red 200mm Case Fan
BitFenix Spectre Pro LED Red 200mm Case Fan

Pros: This fan is superior in airflow and noise to the stock 200mm fan in the front of the Corsair 650D and ends up having its 4 LEDs almost perfectly aligned at the corners of the front dust filter. It also comes with a jumper (easily wired to a switch with very little skill) which can be used to turn the LEDs on and off.

Cons: Not PWM.

Overall Review: As with any non-PWM fan with LEDs, varying the speed of the fan via voltage will change the brightness of your LEDs. That said, this fan under-volts well while still providing pretty decent airflow and a deep, dark red glow.

Another Great Corsair Case

Corsair Carbide Series Air 540 (CC-9011048-WW) Arctic White Steel High Airflow ATX Cube Case
Corsair Carbide Series Air 540 (CC-9011048-WW) Arctic White Steel High Airflow ATX Cube Case

Pros: A great amount of space to work in. Excellent airflow. Superior cable management. A moderate amount (could have been better) of thought went into flexibility in fan mounting. Nice white LEDs in a white case. Great for a monochromatic build using something like the MSi Krait Edition boards. Huge window for showcasing all your sexy hardware.

Cons: The only thing I could call a con with the case is purely aesthetic. The switch array on the front panel is off-center. This is perhaps more irksome when the case is turned on its side. In Corsair's defense, they did not make allowances for this orientation as with the Air 240, but it doesn't change the fact that it is asymmetrical no matter which way you look at it. The other offense against symmetry-oriented obsessive-compulsive people like me is that the fans are also slightly askew. Because of the mounting hole spacing, the front bottom fan can be moved down about 2mm and 35 seconds with a Dremel can widen the top mounts and allow for two 140mm fans to be aligned perfectly with the front panel. Some of you probably think this is insane but real enthusiasts know the devil is in the details. Other than that, I think Corsair could take it to the next level by making very subtle design changes that offer a bit more flexibility and modularity.

Overall Review: I will be modding this case quite a bit and Corsair provides ample space to do it so that's a plus. Modders and water coolers have been having fun with this case and I'm adding myself to the list. With a little creative drive mounting, you can pick up a lot of space in the "hidden" area of the case, enough even to mod another dual 5.25" bay into the front. (I know optical drives are all but obsolete, but a dual-bay pump/res combo is a nice choice if you run the case horizontally.) I should also mention that test fits with HWLabs Nemesis GTX and GTS 280 radiators worked out with minor modification and provide 640 cm^2 more area than the headache of trying to fit a 360 and a 240 in this case. It looks like mounting a third 280mm rad (slim, like the GTS) at the bottom of the case could work, too, if one were inclined to do a little cutting. So much potential...

Beautiful Monitor

ASUS VE278H 27" Full HD 1920 x 1080 VGA HDMI Asus Eye Care with Ultra Low-Blue Light & Flicker-Free Built-in Speakers LED Backlight LCD Monitor
ASUS VE278H 27" Full HD 1920 x 1080 VGA HDMI Asus Eye Care with Ultra Low-Blue Light & Flicker-Free Built-in Speakers LED Backlight LCD Monitor

Pros: Arrived in absolutely flawless condition. Not a single dead pixel. Loving it as the new head to my Asus/Corsair rig. Nice to have a DVI-to-HDMI cable included, too.

Cons: I haven't found a single thing to complain about yet.

Overall Review: I feel like Asus might have saved a little money by not including the worthless speakers, but maybe it helps sell monitors.

Fantastic Case

Corsair Obsidian Series 650D (CC650DW-1) Black Aluminum / Steel ATX Mid Tower Case
Corsair Obsidian Series 650D (CC650DW-1) Black Aluminum / Steel ATX Mid Tower Case

Pros: Clean, understated, classy. A well-conceived design executed with quality materials and great workmanship. Corsair is a class act and this case is no exception.

Cons: The USB 3.0 ports on the front panel are connected by pass-through cables instead of the 19-pin female used to connect directly to the motherboard header! The rest of the case is too nice to dock an egg on this, but in my best Chris Berman voice, "C'Mon Man!"

Overall Review: Female USB ports directly on the mobo are not all that common and running USB cables out the back of your build and into your I/O panel is not something most good builders would even consider. Corsair should have used the 19-pin or included an adapter. I was honestly surprised to see such an amateur solution in such a professional case. Using the Akasa AK-CBUB09-15BK adapter.
