Awesome CPU

Intel Core i7-12700K - Core i7 12th Gen Alder Lake 12-Core (8P+4E) 3.6 GHz LGA 1700 125W Intel UHD Graphics 770 Desktop Processor - BX8071512700K

Pros: - Fast and able to handle many tasks at a time - Price, not much more than 11th gen for about 20% increase in performance

Overall Review: For my first time PC build, I decided to upgrade from the Stone Age to gen 12 Alder lake. Was so close to going gen 11 Rocket Lake, but I'm glad I treated myself for a little bit more in terms of price for a huge leap in performance. It does require windows 11 and as of now I'm having difficulties with my peripherals (Razor Kraken Tournament edition) and the mic settings. That being said I'm coming from windows 7. If you have experience with windows 10 you'll be in a much better stand point of navigating and interacting with windows 11.

Awesome Intel 12th Gen Motherboard, that is very new PC builder friendly!

MSI MPG Z690 EDGE WIFI DDR4 LGA 1700 ATX Intel Motherboard
MSI MPG Z690 EDGE WIFI DDR4 LGA 1700 ATX Intel Motherboard

Pros: - Incredibly user friendly with a very informative user guide - Great BIOS interface that is very intuitive even for a 1st time builder - Solid material build for a mid tier motherboard - Great look with slight RGB accents - Awesome 4x m4 nvme SSD with heatsinks - DDR4 version is great as DDR5 is still in its infancy and very hard to get - Tons of USB options on the I/O back Panel and headers for more fans/RGB accessories

Cons: - MSI software/Mystic light does not like to play nice with Corsair iCue software it would seem. I kind of knew this was a thing when I decided to go with the MSI Z690 MPG and honestly it's probably more of just an annoyance to not be able to have one software of my choosing (iCue) controlling all the RGB lights. Setting up iCue was great and very simple, but when I then got the Mystic Light to adjust the Mobo it took over the DDR lighting and prevented Corsair's software from being able to make adjustments to other components for a bit. Now I can only adjust DDR through MSI software. Once I got it setup to show off LSU colors purple and gold to surprise my girlfriend, I have pretty much just left it as is to not have to fight both programs to work together again. - Honestly I'm not sure whose fault this one was, but a USB 3.0 90 degree, right angle attachment, did not work with this motherboard. It did not come with the the motherboard but with Corsair's 5000D case. the slot is backwards as is showed in the attached picture as that is how it lines up with the pins. Not a big deal, just made cable management slightly more of a challenge without cable mod extensions.

Overall Review: Final thoughts, this was my 1st PC build ever and after watching youtube videos/doing research for about a month, I'm glad I decided to go with the new intel 12th gen (LGA 1700) 12700k chipset and specifically this motherboard to compliment it. The user guide made it very straightforward. I 100% recommend the MSI MPG Z690 WIFI DDR4 to anyone who is looking for an upgrade and is not ready to wait the undisclosed amount of time it will take for DDR5 to become available at a reasonable retail value. As for recommendations to MSI to improve this motherboard, I'd say for starters allow lighting and fan controllers from other manufacturers to be allowed to utilize the motherboard components within the MSI Center/Mystic light application. Just a simple permissions option would be great. Customization is why people are willing to spend a lot more on pretty lights and making it an easier and smoother experience is in everyone best interest. This review was prompted by a rebate.
