Best case I've ever built in

Fractal Design Define 7 White Brushed Aluminum / Steel E-ATX Silent Modular Tempered Glass Window Mid Tower Computer Case
Fractal Design Define 7 White Brushed Aluminum / Steel E-ATX Silent Modular Tempered Glass Window Mid Tower Computer Case

Pros: All the options. The modularity of this case is fantastic. The ease of removing the panels, reconfiguring it to/from storage mode, etc. are all a wonderful part of this case. The multiple top panel selection that's included is also great. The ability to mount bottom fans is also a huge plus for me and something you don't see in nearly enough cases, in my opinion. And then there's the built in fan hub (See also Cons) and all the room to do whatever you want. The lack of front panel mesh is, to me, a huge plus. I'm not a fan of the mesh aesthetic that is becoming the current rage. I like my airflow to not be quite as much in your face and I've managed to get great airflow in this case that I will detail more below. All the white was exactly what I wanted. It's very quiet when the fan hub is set up properly. All the USB connectors on the front. I use front panel USB a lot and they didn't skimp on connections here with two 3.0, two 2.0 and one USB-C. Excellent cable management options. Drive options out the yahzoo and a rare 5.25 device mount area if you must.

Cons: While the fan hub is great, the instructions for using it are quite sparse and need more explanation than the included manual provides. (See below.) The manual itself could also use a bit more exposition though it is a cut above the manuals for the other cases I've used. It's also a long case. It has to be to provide all of its configuration options, but it's something you should be aware of. Be sure to measure the space it's going to be occupying. The design of the top filter clashes with the design of the airflow focused top cover. I bought the white case and I wish the filter were black instead of white, then the top would look better when using the optional top cover and the observer would not notice the clashing design. (I wonder if I can buy a replacement filter in black?) The included fans are 3 pin DC instead of 4 pin PWM fans.

Overall Review: I've been building systems since 1988 and this is hands down the best case I've ever used. I seem to collect different cases and in the past year I've also used the Lian Li Lancool II, the NZXT H200, and the Be Quiet Purebase 500. Those are all good cases for those on a budget, but this more premium case is hands down superior. I chose not to use the vented top cover and left the solid one on. I reconfigured to storage mode (Something you don't need to remove the front fans to do in spite of the instructions to do so.) I removed the bottom hard drive cage and put two 140mm fans in the bottom pulling air into the case. Since I configured to storage mode, the two plastic panels on the PSU shroud were removed leaving a large opening for airflow from the bottom mounted fans. The use of the fan hub requires a bit of explanation. The manual recommends you plug it into either the CPU fan header or a chassis header. I plugged mine into a chassis header since I didn't want all the fans spinning up when the CPU fan did. With my Ryzen 5 3600 short quick temperature fluctuations are the norm and I didn't want to hear all my fans compensating. Since I don't have any PWM connected to the hub, software doesn't see the case fans. I did have to go into BIOS and switch from PWM to DC for the chassis fan header, otherwise all fans will run at full speed. Now it's all very quiet. My CPU cooler, the Arctic Freezer 34 ESports Duo, has it's PWM fans connected to the motherboard CPU header. This case configuration has great airflow and my temperatures dropped 11c at idle and 9c at full load compared to the Be Quiet case my system was moved from. In the modding potential department, there's a lot to like here as well. For instance, I added an LED strip mounted underneath and at the front of the shroud. This provides beautiful edge highlights in the cutout design and is much more subtle than all the unicorn puke you see these days. Also, in storage mode, you have this wide flat area near the glass that has so much potential for customization. I've not done any yet, but I'm planning something interesting there. I hope I've covered everything important. Bottom line, I highly recommend this case. It's amazingly versatile and engineered. NZXT Source 210 S210-002 White w/Black Front Trim “Aluminum Brush / Plastic” ATX Mid Tower Computer Case
NZXT Source 210 S210-002 White w/Black Front Trim “Aluminum Brush / Plastic” ATX Mid Tower Computer Case

Pros: Nice finish, looks good. White ring around LED for power indication, white LED in center of reset shows HD activity. Plenty of spots for fans.

Cons: Front USB ports were both upside-down and miswired. Fried my 4gig flash drive when I plugged it into it. The sandisk flash drive got super hot before I noticed the indicator light wasn't lit. The bottom rear of the case, under the PS was dented. I had to unbend by hand before mounting the PS. Required a screwdriver to get the thumb screws off the first time.

Overall Review: As much as I like the way this case looks, I can't recommend it due to the apparent lack of quality control.

A human interface failure, but a delightfully attractive case

Fractal Design Pop Air RGB Black Orange Core TG ATX High-Airflow Clear Tempered Glass Window Mid Tower Computer Case
Fractal Design Pop Air RGB Black Orange Core TG ATX High-Airflow Clear Tempered Glass Window Mid Tower Computer Case

Pros: The build quality for this price point is amazing. The paint quality is outstanding. A daily swipe across the grills keeps the case looking good. A cat can't accidentally press the power button. (More case manufacturers should consider this feature.) The fans are brighter than Fractal's 140mm PWM ARGB Fans. Drawer in the front for your stash of whatever you like to keep close, but out of sight.

Cons: Cable routing can be a mess with two separate daisy chained connections. The ARGB chain, and the Fan chain. The case really does benefit from adding a fan controller. I took one from another Fractal case and used it. Unintuitive ARGB controller with a single button interface. Once you understand it, fine. You can't hook up a different controller and manage the power button lighting from there. Not a big deal, but niggling.

Overall Review: I bought two of these cases, the green and this one, the orange. Matching cases for my wife and I. I left a review on the Green model, but after having now built in two of them, I wanted to provide further information and to also rebut Fractal's response to my prior review. Here's a tip though. Fractal's assembly line always mounts the fans with their name upright, but the fan wiring comes out the side. This means you are losing a few inches of connection range if you leave the fan/wiring the way Fractal ships the units. The simple fix is to pull the fan wires out and run them through the middle cutout in the front right side and you'll gain several inches which will allow the fans to reach most fan connectors on most motherboards. If you leave them as is, you are sacrificing wire length needlessly. Alternatively, rotating the top fan 90 degrees counterclockwise will gain additional wire length up top. In spite of what one YouTube reviewer had to say about difficulty moving the front fans, if you use the right tools, it's not a problem. As an airflow case, there are a lot of openings in the rear. With two fans blowing in the front, the case is minimally positive pressure. I like a bit more positive pressure to keep the dust out so I mounted one of the above mentioned Fractal 140mm fans pulling air down in front of my Artic Esports Duo CPU cooler. I always appreciate the magnetic filters on case tops exactly for that reason, better positive pressure so less cleaning to do down the road. In my prior review I commented on how you couldn't set the colors used in the marketing material using the ARGB controller. Fractal kindly pointed out that you can, and that it is detailed in the manual. I wanted to talk some more about this controller. It's a case of one step forward, two steps back. So a possibly brilliant person at Fractal came up with a controller that allows you to actually capture any of the colors or patterns that cycle and freeze them in place. This is great, and a step up from other standalone controllers. Then, possibly the same brilliant person figured out how to do it with one button. It's a cool idea, but not intuitive at all. Nada, zip. Don't just take my word for it, go watch the review for this case on GamersNexus. Arguably the most skilled testers on YouTube couldn't figure it out either. Why? Because we were expected to read the manual. I've been a computer building enthusiast since 1988, and I don't think I've read a case manual in, maybe, 20 years. In fact, most cases in the Age of Beige didn't even include manuals or even a sheet of assembly instructions. You got it, you figured it out, or you didn't. It would have been a better human interface decision to have two buttons, one to cycle, one to hold. I get it though, you saved a bit of money and then took that money and put it in a radiator offset bracket that probably cost more and that air cooling enthusiasts just don't need. The second button would have been a better choice. So the second mistake, after making this unintuitive one button interface, is hiding the details in a manual. What you should have done was to put a sticker on the case near the button with instructions. Stickers are cheap, user misunderstandings can cost sales. Bottom line, don't hide instructions to unintuitive interfaces in the manual. Get them out where they can be seen. But really, stop making unintuitive interfaces. The secret to any great interface is one that the user doesn't require instruction to use. If it's a simple device, you shouldn't need instructions. One last question for you, Fractal. Where's the Purple case? Purple is the new Pink. 90 percent of the women I've known in my life prefer purple as a favorite color. So when I told my wife you had some great colors, she told me to get her a purple one. She settled for the orange. So here's what I'd like to see in the Fractal Design Pop 2 case in a year or so: A two button argb controller that will accept external connections, or just another way to hook up the button lighting. Purple & yellow color choices. Included USBC connector Mix and match color accessories for the drive trays that can be mounted visibly inside. But bottom line, another great Fractal Design case, just with an unintuitive lighting controller.

A bit of misleading marketing

Fractal Design Pop Air RGB Black Green Core TG ATX High-Airflow Clear Tempered Glass Window Mid Tower Computer Case

Overall Review: This is my 7th Fractal Design case. I have the strange love of cases and do annual transplants of my systems. Its a very nice case. Well constructed. The tooling for the drive mounts are all different from my other Fractal cases, but the Define 7 was the latest Id used so the fittings might be a new standard. My other Fractal cases had single mount ssd plates, but this design uses one plate to hold two drives. One problem I did run into, is that there is no included fan hub, and the fan cables were not sufficient to reach my older ASUS ROG Strix B-450 fs fan connectors so I had to pop in a fan hub. The daisy chain was an inch short otherwise. Fractals marketing hit me at the right moment. I had been thinking of a new case for my wifes system. She was using one of my hand-me-down Lian Li cases. There in my inbox was the announcement email for this series. I LOVED the orange look with the static orange lighting. Then I saw the others. An hour later I had talked it over with my wife and ordered the Orange and the Green Core SKUs. Getting them delivered in two days was only a few dollars more, so today I moved my system from the Define 7 to the Core Green Pop. So now the disappointing part. Remember my mentioning the marketing with the static orange lighting? In fact, if you look at the website youll see they all have matching static color lighting on the fans. The problem is, the included ARGB controller is incapable of displaying those colors other than as part of a rainbow cycle. So that gorgeous case I thought I was buying with the wonderful matching fans? Thats not what I got. What I got was a gorgeous case with some fans that show good colors, but will NOT allow the presentation from the marketing unless I replace my motherboard for one with an Argb controller. Its the first time Ive ever been disappointed in a Fractal Design case. Its still a great case, but dont buy it expecting to be able to match the color of your fans to your case unless you supply your own controller. The included one wont do it. It feels like false advertising.

Corsair Force Series 3 2.5" 60GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) CSSD-F60GB3A-BK

Pros: Fast. Very very fast. Did I mention it's fast?

Cons: There were some initial motherboard compatibility issues I had to resolve. It would initially show a "SMART command failed" at the ACHI initialization and subsequently only intermittently boot. It required two steps to resolve this: 1. Updated my Gigabyte Z68X-UD3HB3 mb to BIOS F10 from BIOS F8. 2. Updated the SSD's firmware to 1.3.2 from the preinstalled 1.2 by downloading the update from the Corsair website and following the installation instructions.

Overall Review: Based on the way I use my system, I decided to use this as my boot drive instead of as a Z68 cache drive. I never knew Win7-64 could boot so quickly. The general responsiveness of my system is incredible now. GA-Z68X-UD3H-B3 i5-2500K OC to 4.4 16gig Corsair Vengeance LP ram I received this as a gift from my son. I didn't realize you could ship something as a gift from Newegg. Kudos Newegg!

My best headset buy ever

PLANTRONICS GameCom 377 Open-ear 3.5mm Circumaural Gaming Headset
PLANTRONICS GameCom 377 Open-ear 3.5mm Circumaural Gaming Headset

Pros: Outstanding sound blew me away. These compare well with my studio headphones but the open air design lets me hear the world around me still. I can't say strongly enough how impressive the sound is with good HD sound chips.

Cons: The cord is too short. It really needs to be about 4 feet longer. 6.5 feet just doesn't really cut it for going down the hole in my desk to the back of my tower. If not for the cord length they would have had 5 stars from me.

Overall Review: I wore these 6 hours the day I got them and they were very comfortable. If you're not used to full ear coverage they will seem a bit warm when you first use them but you'll adjust quickly. I wear these now for as much as 12 hours a day with complete comfort.

Amazing customer service!!!

When you think of customer service these days, you expect a parred down system of emails, voice mail selections, and prerecorded messages. Not so here. My phone rang with a number I didn't recognize. Expecting it to be yet another call about my car's extended warranty I answered with "Hello potential spammer." It wasn't. It was an actual human representative from Airlink Tech. They were calling to let me know there was an issue with my shipped item and that they were sending a replacement out. It was the most amazing display of customer service that I had experienced in years, maybe longer. I'm going to repeat myself here. There was an issue with my order, a real live human called me to let me know about the issue and what they were doing to fix it!!! Other companies could take some lessons from Airlink Tech. They do customer service right!
