Most Favorable Review

Very good (and nice cost)

XClio SS014 4 x 2.5" HDD in 1 x 5.25" Cage
XClio SS014 4 x 2.5" HDD in 1 x 5.25" Cage

Pros: * Black cage * Locks for each drive * Blue power light for each drive * Green activity light for each drive (that you can see) * Red drive fail led for each drive (uses the same green LED above, its 2 color) * Feels fairly robust (assuming you know how to handle RAID cages) * Comes with 4 SATA cables * Cables with drive FAIL LED cable * Nice box (getting picky)

Cons: * Bay handles are silver (ok for me, not for everyone though) * Drive light could have been very slighty brighter (getting picky) * Would be nice to have RAID backplane control port and cable

Overall Review: I bought the Enhance version (X14) its IDENTICAL except the XCLIO is black cage (which is nice), and this is 33% cheaper (guessing), this is comes with drive fail LED cable. Out of the 2 (XCLIO and Enhance) buy the XCLIO, has brighter drive LED you can see, black cage, silver handles (that are flat) and nice box... Very happy with this one, going to sell the X14 Enhance unit second hand now (its 2 months old)

Most Critical Review

Looks nice, not that well designed

Cooler Master MasterCase NC100 SFF Small Form Factor 7.9 Liter Case with V650 Gold SFX PSU, GPUs 2.5 slots up to 320mm for Intel NUC 9 Extreme Element
Cooler Master MasterCase NC100 SFF Small Form Factor 7.9 Liter Case with V650 Gold SFX PSU, GPUs 2.5 slots up to 320mm for Intel NUC 9 Extreme Element

Pros: Visually a nice case

Cons: There are many: - Very cramped inside, requiring a lot of time spent routing the power cables so they dont interfere with the cooler vent or video card - The front USB connection inside is in a bad location, requiring to loose about 1-2 inches of cable, which isnt really possible given how thick the USB cable is (and the above cabling issue) - Front light is not driven from the PC (board) so you will not have power / sleep lighting, this is not documented anywhere, there is no way to override what CM wants you to do with the lights - No antenna for WiFi or bluetooth (has holes for them, they are not supplied), this is a huge issue, the Intel NUC9 and NUC11 cases both come with them We will not be buying anymore of these cases

Overall Review: Visually looks nice, but that's about it, cable management, no WiFi antennas and a front mounted power light that is not controlled from the PC puts this in a very rogue case locaiton.

Works as expected

Western Digital WD Red SA500 2.5" 2TB SATA III 3D NAND Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) WDS200T1R0A
Western Digital WD Red SA500 2.5" 2TB SATA III 3D NAND Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) WDS200T1R0A

Pros: Although the 2.5inch format drives are not as fast as the M.2, the RED has about double the life of the Blue or Black, this is being used in a NAS< it fits and worked.

Overall Review: Works as expected, being RED it has a way longer life than the Blue or Black with regards how much data can be read and write over its life.

UPDATE

Enhance Technology x14 Multi-disk Storage Backplane
Enhance Technology x14 Multi-disk Storage Backplane

Pros: UPDATE : This did not kill any drives, its working fine (was a Promise card "mehod" used).

Cons: The read LED is white, and VERY dull compaired to the Blue power LED, this isnt good, cant see when the drives are reading data.

Good for its size

Enhance Technology x14 Multi-disk Storage Backplane
Enhance Technology x14 Multi-disk Storage Backplane

Pros: 4 x 2.5inch drives in 1 x 5.25inch bay, each drive has power led (blue), drive activity led (green), also this same activity led is a FAIL LED (red, when the pins are connected at the rear to a RAID controller that has this function). The fans are very noisy inside, keeps the drives cool (i have it in a 2U Chenbro case so has good air management).

Cons: * The locks are useless but do work (i dont use them) * VERY hard to locate the tray, it has metal "slider" inside but you need to "locate" them otherwise the drive doesnt fit in the connector at the back, took me a few goes after looking inside, once you work it out, its easy * Feels alittle weak in design at the front but from what ive seen (and ive seen alot) its nice. * The cage itself isnt sprayed black (metal silver) means you see alot of silver once installed in the unit * Might have killed a drive, unsure at the moment... (i am using Hitachi drives, Promise EX4650 and this bay with an Adaptec cable inside)

Overall Review: The XCLIO SS014 is identical, just has silver handles (and about half the price), also the case is sprayed black, but cant find them in USA or Canada... The Supermicro would be nice to see (CSE-M14T) they do this in Black and Beige, however this has no hard drive fail LED and no power LED for each drive. Only activity as the drive sees it, this unit is also really loud with the 1 fan in the back (which can be removed)
