Pros: Worked when it worked
Cons: Stopped working for no reason
Overall Review: Moved all parts to a new Asus MOBO and they work perfectly.
Pros: in terms of "fuel economy" and heat, this processor is a fantastic value. stays relatively cool due to low W needs, and is good for an always-on computer; energy costs are low for the power youre getting. ive been very pleased with this cpu, and its above average performance.
Overall Review: its about 40% less powerful than CPUs that cost upwards of 3x as much, so not bleeding edge fast, but those processors also require 2x as much electricity, and probably demand superior cooling solutions as well.
Pros: if it were to cost double what theyre selling for, i would still buy it. its that good. if youre using a slow, atom cpu computer with a slot for this, it will play 1080p videos when you add it. amazing. frees up cpu as well, so you can multi task while watching videos you should not even be able to watch on your crummy nettop or netbook...
Overall Review: awesome company for making this. i have a lot of respect for any company that solves new problems with humility like this. what a bargain for what this thing does!
Pros: can handle hd video well on its own with onboard video. handles any video you throw at it if you add a broadcom crystal card. 1080p with this addon is no problem. takes upto 4gb memory (and all four is noticeably faster than just 2). very sleek, without sacrificing 5.25" bay (only about an inch thicker than the bay itself). pretty quiet, low power; i put an hdd rack in the external bay and leave this sucker downloading/uploading 24/7. plus, its powerful enough to use as my desktop for anything else. including movies, streaming to justin.tv, recording with hd pvr, etc.
Cons: no vents on top of the unit, no matter how you stand it up. not a big deal, since i dont think it really gets hot anyway. i just like the idea of air escaping naturally through top vents.
Overall Review: this is an awesome nettop if you max out the ram and throw in a broadcom for limitless hd video watching. smaller and way more powerful than the FOXCONN R10-S4 i had before, but is probably just as energy efficient.
Pros: good for gaming, no little to no delay in responses. has all the video inputs i could possibly need. 1:1 pixel mapping.
Cons: buttons on monitor itself sometimes not very responsive. vid input changes are a bit slow. no auto detect feature. biggest negative for me is no optical in. that wouldve been great.
Pros: so far so good, upgraded from a 10/100 and it seems to have solved all of my connectivity issues. i used it on a small barebones system, and i was pleasantly surprised by an adapter plate to use for the smaller slot on my pc.
Cons: none so far
Overall Review: for the price you cant go wrong
Pros: ive had this system for about 5 months now and im pretty pleased with it. power consumption is low, sound is low enough -- not completely silent though. its easy to work with if you read instructions and it has a small foot print. its great for a torrent downloading machine/movie streaming, after network card upgrade. prior to network card upgraded, it cost me just under 300 to make a 1.5tb system.
Cons: what i dont like about it is the built in network card. ive had many connectivity problems with this pc because of the network card they included, i had to upgrade to a ST1000BT32, which seems to have solved my problems. problems i had were: intermittent connection when using remote access services, and i would also have trouble streaming movies from this pc because of the card -- all seems to have stopped now that i upgraded the card. machine is pretty slow, so if you are really into speed you will not like using it even to browse the web, but
Overall Review: i have a ssd now too but it doesnt really help much.
Pros: costs just about the same as a drive of the same quality without the case. no brick needed for power, portable, fits in pocket. light is on top and on back of unit, so it wont annoy you when its time to sleep (if you leave it on).
Cons: designs a bit dull. not really designed for stacking -- you could if you wanted, but wouldnt be very secure.
Overall Review: happy with this purchase. didnt buy it on newegg though; got it on 4m4z0n for freeshipping and no tax...
Pros: good quality for low price. the display settings need to be set manually so they suit your tastes of course, but once you set it up, it looks great. blurays look way better on this than they did on my 37 inch 1080p set.
Cons: has a dead pixel with like a faint line across it... but you can only see it if you stand less than a foot away from it, lol. you have to really, really want to see it to actually see it. i thought it was kinda lame but not a deal breaker as you really cant see it unless you try real hard.
Pros: contrast and clarity is great, color is great. although, dont expect this from default settings. you will have to adjust them for each input. good size and quality, got the tv for about eight fifty total from costco last week. much bigger than my old set, blurays look way better and you can see way more detail. its true, you definitely appreciate 1080p better on a 46+" screen. waaaaaay more details are visible now.
Cons: no 1:1 mode, only full (forced widescreen) and 4:3. so, basically, if you are watchin cable tv and theres somethin in standard def that isnt widescreen, it stretches unless you put on 4:3 mode, but then you have to switch back to full for widescreen programming, or it looks skinny.
Overall Review: unlike my 37" westinghouse, this tv needs to be adjusted to have same picture quality when playing blurays vs saved movie files on ps3 hdd. ps3 hdd movies are darker than bluray disc vid for some reason. i usually just switch to vivid mode and its good enough.
Pros: very light weight, small, easy to use. takes great photos and battery lasts a good amount of time.
Cons: itd be nicer if it took aa batteries instead of having a proprietary, rechargeable. design is kinda generic looking.
Overall Review: newegg shipping is awesome.
Pros: lots of space, great price.
Cons: none yet.
Pros: great image quality, good price, good connection options and has tv tuner. good brightness, contrast, color, etc.
Cons: poorly designed. i havent tried to connect a bunch of stuff to the back, but i hear its cramped. what i have realized however, is the monitor seems to be of flawed design. i bought this for my ps3, and here is the problem:
it shows up as 1080p -- thats a plus, right? kinda... the monitor cant physically accommodate a 1080p image, because its 1440 x 900. so, what happens with the image is one of two things:
in full screen mode, its adjusted to fit the screen, making everything look slightly thinner than its supposed to. its not very distorted though, id say just a tad beyond what a slimming mirror might do. the image is still close enough to what its supposed to be so you dont get angry.
in standard mode, the image is displayed in full 1080p, but because of the physical constraints, whatever parts of the picture that dont fit are cut off.
full and standard are the only two screen options.
Overall Review: a 1080p monitor should have a 1920 × 1080 resolution to display a full 1080p picture. this monitor has a resolution of 1440 x 900. for it to display a compressed 1080p image with the right proportions in tact, it would have to be 1600 x 900, which it isnt. ive tried adjusting the display settings on the ps3 to scale down, but so far it doesnt work. im still satisfied with the purchase, however.
Pros: works as advertised, very affordable after 40 dollar rebate. got email confirming my rebate was received, so im waiting for my check now.
Cons: should just sell for 40 bucks cheaper without needing a rebate.
Overall Review: you may have to adjust your settings on your motherboard to get advertised timings. to check true capabilities of memory, use cpuz software and it will show you what its capable of.
Pros: no bad discs so far. the dye is extra dark, reminds me of playstation discs to some extent.
Cons: design on face of discs could be better, but thats not really important.
Pros: it dropped my temperatures by about 12c-15c overall. seems to be a solid design, and i think it improved overall airflow in my case for everything, not just the cpu.
Cons: kinda pricey. its worth it if you already have a PC built and just dont like the temperatures youre getting, but if youre building a new pc, i would just go for a cooler case and maybe manually setting your fan speeds.
Overall Review: this thing is way bigger than it looks in photos. i think its like 5-6 inches in diameter.
Pros: fair price and has neat features you can change with included software. changed the bios screen with the bundled software so it looks cooler.
Cons: it gets pretty hot. i got a hsf for the chip with the heatsink on it. from reading other reviews i think thats the culprit that hits about 60c+ under extreme load.
Overall Review: press F1 to get advanced setting options in bios. there you can change the ram settings.
Pros: very inexpensive, has two dvi ports and works very well so far. i am playing bioshock, timeshift and portal on maxed out settings without problems.
Overall Review: im not sure what a safe temperature is for video cards, but this one will go up to 70c under load (playing the games i listed above on max settings). i havent had any problems so far, though. no lag in the games or anything like that. timeshift is beautiful.
Pros: i got it cheap with a combo deal. the cables are good quality, and i like that theyre not all permanently connected to the psu.
Pros: runs very stable and fast. stock cooling keeps the termperatures safe and steady if you dont overclock beyond 214x15. i got aftermarket hsf because i wanted to see how far it could go (my first overclock). got it to go steady up to 3.4 but i brought it back to 3.2 just to keep the temperatures below 46c under load.
Cons: none for me
Overall Review: if you end up removing the stock hsf that comes with it. make sure you twist gently to remove, and dont lift straight up. im pretty inexperienced with that kind of thing, so i lifted it and the cpu got yanked out of the motherboard. i was pretty scared, but all was well. so yea, twist and pull very gently when removing it...
Pros: the case seems sturdy, not having to use any tools or screws is really convenient. it has enough fans to keep my stuff running at decent temperatures.
Cons: the led is super bright. i have the computer in my bedroom, so i can see a slight bluish light on my walls when im going to sleep. i usually put my chair in front of it to block it some. i have considered coloring over it with permanent marker, but havent done so yet, lol.
Pros: does exactly what its supposed to do pretty quickly. ive only owned two burners in my lifetime so i dont have much to compare it to, but its about twice as fast as my last one.
Cons: none for me.
Overall Review: i have been using verbatim dvdrs because they are high rated in quality, and they have worked flawlessly so far.
Pros: has all the inputs you should need. image is great, i got mine for just under eight hundred on sale a few months back. i wish i had bought two back then. ps3 looks awesome on 1080p, hdtv looks amazing, wish there were more channels.
Cons: speakers are not the greatest. if sound quality is important to you, you will need to buy separate ones.
Overall Review: i increased the color saturation to make things more vivid. also, i reduced the brightness slightly since my eyes are sensitive. looks awesome with high def stuff. regular cable tv is so so.
Pros: batteries last a really long time. i use them in my canon a630 (takes four AA). not sure if its the camera just being super efficient, but the batteries last months without recharging... i have even filmed video with my camera, up to 20 hrs without needing to recharge.
Cons: the colors they put on the battery make them look cheap. but they are soooooooooooo awesome.
Overall Review: i use the same brand charger with these. if you are lookin for rechargeable batteries, look no further. trust me!
Pros: works perfectly for what i needed it. inexpensive and portable/light.
Cons: kinda flimsy feel to it, but it hasnt broken on me or anything. when i try to make very slight adjustments sometimes it jerks and i have to be extra careful. other than that it works fine.
